After over 4 years and thousands of gameplay hours, I’ve grown bored of GW2. The introduction of elite specialisations isn’t really breathing life into it for me. I miss the excitement gw2 generated at launch, and even 3 years later. I would love to experience it again if GW3 ever releases. Please don’t release any more expansions. I hope the next release from ANET is a sequel to this legendary game, and lets move on before it dies completely.

Also, this game engine needs to die and they must create a new one. It’s old and can’t handle the scope of the game in my opinion.

This is sadly why GW3 is nowhere NEAR being close to even being on their drawing board.

True MMOs are created to last a long time. GW2 is still a relatively new MMO. GW3, WoW 2, SWTOR 2 and ESO2 won’t happen. A game engine can be replaced without changing the game. Non-MMO game make series of 2,3 or more games because it boosts sells, but it is the contrary for MMOs. WoW constantly enhance the engine at each Xpac for years, Blizzard knows it would be a disaster to make a WoW2 and I think Anet is also enough smart to know that.

I agree with Siegfried that we’re missing a lot of what come with launch – that being especially race specific gameplay. Their own dedicated zones, personal stories and general feel.
I mean sure they’re all still there, but those of us doing xpacs are stuck as general commander without 1/100th of the starting zones asuran snark, norn brawls, human ranting on flop eared rats and their attitutde, charr military regime and legions competing with eachother, or sylvari making the life of poor asura gate operator a living hell with questions about golem’s feelings.

Seriously i remember when i used to just sit around in rata sum or metrica province to not only admire the view but see all the fun, snarky and humorous dialogues between the only non-bookahs of Tyria.

I really miss that sort of content in expansion…

Lmao, as if this would ever happen.
You get bored so they need to make you a new game in another 3 years?
Cmon….

Where’s WoW 2 ?
Rebuilding a world took forever and it won’t guaranteed success.
Gutting people’s progress and expecting the whole fan-base start anew is one of the riskiest move a company could make.

GW2 still looks prettier than 95% of other MMO in my opinion despite weaker engine.

Yeah the problem is that old engines and concepts will always compete with the new additions and therefore limit the possibilities of the devs. Best example: AllyTargeting. In the early days for some reasons Anet decides that it would be bad if you were able the target allies directly. That worked because because “supporting” abilities were quite a minor part of the game and basically reduced to combofields and some buff abilities. Now we have dedicated support specialisations….. without the possibility to target an ally ……

Or take mounts. I do not want to know how boring the old world will feel when you simply can rush through it with your mounts…… but on the other side I also do not want to miss my new raptor friend.

In a complete new game Anet could build the whole system around the concepts they had developed (Overworld with Mount focus, Elite Specialisations, Mastery System instead of Levels etc etc):

Even if they introduce new tweaks in racial story plot, people won’t care about early contents like that anymore. They want something big and flashy.

It’s like putting all the effort to only please a very very niche player-base who enjoy those, and even those players will only do that type of content once, which may be another hour of their time and move on.

To a MMO this old, I don’t think it’s worth the effort for that type of marginal gain anymore. Those type of stuffs are only interesting for a game flash new.

I so feel like the op too. The game was so much fun at launch. But as with all modern mmo’s they get real grindy because of all the crap that gets added to keep people playing. HOT was the turning point for me. I can’t stand the specializations and the hero points/Masteries grinding. I just wish they would come up with new races and classes. Or instead of specializations gives us a duel profession’s like in GW1.

I am not sure how you think the two things relate but I am pretty sure that GW3 was on the drawing board before GW2 was even released.

Either way it really doesnt matter – if GW3 is in development it will still be 1-3 years from announcement to release. And it hasnt been announced. It was 7 years between GW1 and GW2.

I’m the opposite. I’ve been playing since beta, still excited to play every day and I can’t wait for the expansion. I don’t even care about the elite specs, I just want new content. Also, GW2 graphics look awesome, WoW is like 13-year-old and still running with ugly graphics (I heard they are updating them), so I’m pretty sure GW3 won’t happen anytime soon.

I hope that gw3 will go back to its root. A corpg with tactic and not just copy an imba build an faceroll over the board. A game with teamplay story missions and not running from one instance to another for just speaking with a trahearne, rytloch or thackeray. a game with build diversity, a counterplay for every meta build and a game where you understand what just right happens in a fight and why you died, instead of a millenium firework in each skill.

An Mmo only gets a sequel when the first one was succesful

Gw1 is a classic that existed in an era of constantly failing MMOs and the haydayvof WoW at its peak. A lesser MMO would have collapsed and gone under. The devs delivered and the community was strong enough to sprout a second game.

Gw2 isn’t as strong as GW1 it isn’t as focused as GW1 either so spawning a another game isn’t happening. Shifting focus all the time has damaged the brand. The say GW3 and everyone thinks of Gw2.

Esports classes who fit schemes like medium armor in trench coats and a limited amount of skills and reduced animations for people to see. Even these new elites the number one complaint seems to be pvp oriented without focus.

Could be more, even. GW2 didn’t begin development until not that long before the EotN announcement – probably early 2007, which pegs pre-release development time at about 5 years. As strange as it is to think about, that means it still hasn’t been out longer than it was in development (although it’s getting close now).

And, I guess, that’s one of those things – MMOs are time-consuming and expensive to produce relative to most games, so a GW3 would be a long way off unless it’s already secretly in the works. I’m not even sure ArenaNet would want to stay in the MMO genre once GW2 runs out of steam.

Just a random PuGgle.

MMOs also arnt designed to just keep pleasing the original players, but simply to maintain a sufficient player base to generate enough revenue to keep the game going.
So as long as there are a similar number of new players entering the game as there are original players leaving the game its all OK.
Eventually, everyone gets bored of an MMO and moves on.

Creating a new GW game is not the solution. Getting better writing to enhance the story experience as well as professional help to implement new ideas in a better way would be the solution. These two posts sum it up best.

As for the engine, an update indeed wouldn’t hurt. However, the way the game seems to have been coded (as proven by all the bugs that occur everytime a patch is released, as well as all the bugs they still couldn’t get fix after all these years), it is unlikely they could ever handle an engine update.

the thing is:
while there are maybe a few , probably even <1, percent of “hardcore” players with several thousand hours played, the average gw2 player has probably a few hundred hours played and is still busy fully equipping their main character.
so while those “hardcore” players are starting to get bored, there’s still plenty to do for the huge amount of average gamers.
and now ask yourself which group is more important for ANet.

What would a new game achieve though that they can’t cram here? A little better graphical fidelity? I guess, though PoF has proven that the game can still look great. Maybe core Tyria could use a pass with a new paintbrash but a whole new game for that?

It’s just a massive undertaking, they would have to rebuild the entire world from scratch when they can barely keep up with content demand as it is. Why throw everything away and start again? What would the playerbase gain? A few years with barely anything to do? What would anet gain? Risking losing existing players?

It sounds like a lose/lose scenario to me. I wouldn’t expect anything for the next 5 years at least.

There is not going to be GW3 for a very long time if it’s going to happen. The main reason for GW2 is for the change of gameplay not just for the fancy graphics. (GW1 received engine improvements over the years).

The only part of the engine that needs improving is the performance which relates to CPU.

I’ve been playing since early access and I still got loads to do on it. Sorry if I offended anyone but the hard-core players should either take a break and move to a different game until there is new contents or get a job.

Anxious and excited, eh? I’m more surly and waiting for something to leap out at me that has more teeth than the entire Osmond family. Guild Wars 3, if it was to come to pass would more than likely be a completely new game set further into the present timeline because that makes sense. Now without my knowing for sure and only applying logical observation here, its clear to me that ArenaNET has a timeline that they intend to play out with key events, situations and locations which they will release as they see fit to keep the story rolling.

Now I have played Guild Wars 2 since 2012 and generally have loved it. I’ve purchased both expansions and although I love the ability to fly I really did not care at all for the jungle or the cities of gold because ultimately it was slog over fun and I game in order to have fun. I am by that definition hoping that the truly massive area which the Crystal Desert covers will feature much more dynamic gameplay … and that unlike the Maguuma Jungle I do not spend 80% of my time running away from things that are way too vicious for words and just one massive waste-of-time (in combat) after another.

GW2 engine is great, fast loading times, decent graphics. The only reason GW2 will update the engine is for the performance, but the graphics will just be the same, example – http://im.tiscali.cz/games/2009/12/04/388215-news-1920x1200.jpg

It is unnecessary at the moment the think about the engine and GW3. Your bored so you rather work on a new game and engine which takes years? I would rather have them using their time expanding GW2 contents than unnecessary stuff.

A new engine would be cool, would love to see what their artists could do with the new tech. If they just upgraded GW2’s that would be fine by me, doesn’t need to be a new game. Would take a major investment from them though and probably isn’t cost effective at this time.

They’ll have to build a new engine (or upgrade) eventually, computer tech doesn’t stand still.

GW2 is still the game I always come back to. I complain from time to time, mostly about WvW. But that is because I still care about the game.

still runs on DX9, barely has any 64bit support, 4K makes it unplayable, textures are at it’s max supported quality yet is even worse then oblivion standards, no bump mapping, still works with old fashioned spite systems, etc..

I disagree. I believe, if GW3 was going to come to be, it would take place way in the past, back when the Gods had arrived in Arah and Orr was a prosperous place. Long before the dragons became a huge threat, when magic was still pure and very much alive. No high-tech Asura gimmicks, no stinky Charr machineries, but awesome, lush or dark, but always engulfing places to visit and explore, where adventure lurks around every corner, adventure is emitted through great story-telling (it’s the little things that count!), and not everything in the storylines has to be put on a “great scheme” level.

GW2 has bump mapping, I have no issue with 64bit client as the main purpose is to allow the game to access more memory which fixed the memory related crashes, and the only issues I had on 4k is the interface is far too small.

GW2 was built to support low ends computers too and the clients is already heavy on the CPU alone doing loads of calculations without maximum settings set. All main MMORPG are usually built to support low ends computer to increase the wider audience. They just needs to sort out how the game handles CPU cores thats all but really it isn’t important yet.

WoW is bigger than GW2 and have enough funding to hire a team to rewrite the whole game. Correct me if am wrong but does WoW even have any bump mapping? To me WoW looks like its using directx 6 :P.

I would love the idea of a gw3, since while there is a ton of stuff that gw2 that IMO work great (Toon customization, Races, Fractals, Gliding, Weapon/Heal/Utility/Elite skills, Map meta events, post level 80 mastery leveling (although mastery points need to be less annoying to get), apparently mounts, living Story schedule)there are other stuff that IMO havent worked too well and need some reworking at a structural level (Single player storytelling, Underwater content, waypoints system could use a revison, mapping seams, inventory, hair and hats, crafting).

That being said ,is clear we arent having a guildwars 3 anytime soon and im perfectly okay with that. i already preordered PoF and probbaly will be also hyped for whatever xpac 3 is in 2 more years. but that doesnt means that start theoryzing a guildwars 3 with all the experiences, succesful experiments and failed experiments that gw2 have provided wouldn’t be too soon.

I feel that gw2 may be reaching his mid life, and i would bet that at least it will still be getting 4 years more of content and 2 expansions. But a gw3 isnt something that will come from under a rock out of nowhere with some months of development, but likely will have a good ammount of development years in itself. So i dont think is too soon to start wondering about gw3. I mean, in 6 years 4k probably will be the standar, lots of cloth simulation is going to be way more efficient and physics motors probably will be resource cheaper too.

As for GW3 storyline, I wouldnt mind going some more years into the future into a more peaceful time under the protection of a child aurene golden era, or at least not having to save the world every year from the flavour of the year villian. They still got the mist that are an excellent wildcard for exploration, instanced content and gratuituos warfare.
