People have been complaining about no gvg, and they want a structured fighting system. If the “name of the game” is really “guild wars”, they should make guild WARS. I’m not asking for another gvg battle system, but rather guilds own territory, and fight other guilds to keep it. Having specific castles throughout the world, with their bonuses to keep would increase the meaning to be a guild, and fulfill the name of the game.
Pls leave comments.

Isn’t this what WvW is?

5x Warrior, 5x Ranger, 4x Elementalist, 4x Engineer,
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

No, because it is whole worlds fighting, it might be similar in sieging concept, but it isn’t only guilds, and you don’t get bonuses for winning wvw

Moo i completely agree. I loved the GvG system in GW1 and wish we had something similar. A guild having its own “area (map, instance)” where its members can just relax, merchants or practice GvG was awesome, had a real community feel to it.

WvW is unfortunately not a GvG type existence because it is a ZERG. Either it is too easy to capture points or needs to be more structured.

A place where Guilds could hold territory and have structured times or sieges when an opposing guild could launch an offensive would be the best thing.

I already experienced a “Guild War” system in a game known as Ether Saga Odyssey. The guild wars system forced users in those guilds to PVP against the warring guild, regardless if they were in a PVE Channel or not. I would suspect that GW2 would lose a massive amount of players in an instant if that were to come out here.

I agree, you shouldn’t be forced. You could still probably have a lodging, but with no bonus if you don’t participate.

I agree too with Moo, but I don’t think Anet would dare question the current WvW mechanics, even if a vast majority of players are complaining about the predictable matchups and the hundreds of flaws, starting with the simple lack of improvements.

Guild alliances is where it should always have been at, with open servers (with a ESO-style guesting system) being hosts to the Guild Alliances warfare.

It feels like Anet won’t be improving WvW anyway until the expansion is released.

Not this discrepancy again!

You people who never played the story of Prophecies need to better educate yourselves on these topics before throwing the “name” out there.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Guild_Wars

The title of the game is lore based to the war that went on in Tyria among the kingdoms/guilds….it never had any direct link to GvG.

But I do agree that GvG in GW1 was amazing, and if they can make it work, should definitely be brought back.

This again? The game isnt named guild wars because of guilds in the CURRENT ERA fighting each other, it’s named guild wars for the Guild Wars (You know, the historical events in the game lore? Kinda like the Civil War?) that took place BEFORE the timeline of the first game. Ergo, just because the name is what it is, does not mean they MUST add guild versus guild content.

Also, what you’re asking for already is in the game. Appropriately ranked/permissioned guild members can claim forts and keeps in WvW for their guild, and doing so gives bonuses.

Beyond the lore and GW1 discussion, GW2 was supposed to have us working together to build Worlds. Not fracture into little guilds and fight each other for vanity. I believe WvW should never have had visible guild tags. That allowed the focus of a World concept to be lessened.

And how exactly do you build “Worlds”?

When there are no changes to LA for tons of years and we have all this ascended garbage material that could be contributed to fix lions arch if arena net would consider this as option for better community system to restore the world after Scarlet attack.

It’s sad that we “work together” but we have no effort doing it!?
All we have is blast + might.. like that’s nearly it.. only offensive sutff..
No defensive and tactics combinations that would really contribute to a good team work combined of 2 or more classes. Sure we have veil, but that’s only one class no need to combine anything..

If this is “work together” based game, i think we should get updated combat system.

And about wvw:
its awesome as it is, because other way we would have no competition AT ALL, sPvP is junk, and pvp is just disaster .. and most of us that still play is because we did play GW1 and we still believe in Arena Net for better times. THAT’s ALL.

GvG is needed badly, I would give my hand in fire to bet that… +40% of guilds would try and play GvG.

Wish I could get back to GW1.. PvP-GvG. It feels like we are outcasted, not desired or rewarded..

Yep, exactly that. Devs when making a new game, they first create a lore and then create mechanics around that. Not the other way around.

With the expansion Guilds will be able to do pvp as “Guilds” so I guess that qualifies as GvG now.

Guild alliances is where it should always have been at, with open servers (with a ESO-style guesting system) being hosts to the Guild Alliances warfare.

I remember the days of old school MMORPGs where big guild alliances fought for map dominance. What happened in the end? Some powerful guilds formed a huge alliance that nobody could break and lived happily ever after while having the entire world under them.

what i’d like to see is something similar to the kurzick/luxon type of GvG, where guilds can ‘own/sponsor’ certain (non-major) towns for unique benefits like banking, trading and crafting stations in places that lack it, free to guild members and available with a fee to non-members. Guilds can either out-bid one another or directly challenge a guild for the town to bypass gold cost. maybe even add unique benefits, like fireworks displays or follower Guild npc’s (henchmen) that can be hired until you leave the map or they die off. etc etc.

something like that.

You know I have heard this a lot and it doesn’t justify it tbh. It is just false advertising. It’s like selling a game called “Slayers of Dragons and Wyverns” when the actually game is Hello Kitty Island Adventures.

When a guy sees the name “Guild Wars” he’s gonna think: “Oh yeah, there must be guilds in them that are at war.” But nope.

Maybe it should have gotten a subtitle:

Guild Wars 2
The age of no guild wars at all

I was going to be pedantic and point out the fact Guild Wars name doesn’t point to actual player guilds faring war at all, but see Bubi’s retort and will rather say;

When a guy sees the name “Guild Wars” he’s gonna think…

Yes, the name might imply it but is not falsely advertising anything other than being the sequel of Guild Wars (#1). Whatever ‘a guy’ is going to think when he sees something, without researching what it is, he’s solely at his own fault for not researching before potentially purchasing.

So the mega guilds who recruit as many people as humanly possible will just be able to zerg everyone else off the map?

You get a big no from me. There would be no way to keep it an even playing field. How could a guild of 50 people possibly compete against a guild with 500 people.

You forget I don’t balance the game, and maybe their will be limits and alliances. I was thinking more lineage 2 style castle siege system
