Guilds? What are they for in PVE?
Dungeons/Groups/Farming/Etc.
However, I do agree that the spam guilds just seem to be more about having numbers than actually accomplishing anything.
this subject has been a thread before.
the answer is the same, there is no point.
make your own guild and get some extra bank space.
Same idea… a dedicated group. Rather than constantly relying on 100% PUGs to do stuff, you can go with a group of players that are familiar with the respective playstyles. The only difference is that Rift and WoW usually incentivize being part of a guild because raid encounters are usually not PUG-able (at least when I played they weren’t) and require a consistent group of players working on progressing through the content. Content in GW2 is more PUG-able…. though it’s not always a guarantee that the masses want to do certain content that a guild might be more inclined to do.
Yeah spam guilds exist everywhere…. I remember the “family style” guilds of WoW that were just numbers and a whole lot of doing nothing.

Guilds are basically what you make of them. You don’t need them to accomplish something, but imo my gaming experience is better with a nice guild. You don’t need to do jumping puzzle races for example, but they’re fun to do ^^
Well guilds are getting harder and harder to come by in GW2. Sure you see the ads, everyday. Heres the thing what happens to MOST guilds, although their ads say PVE/sPVP/dungeons/WvW. What they really mean is the guild will pick one of the four and stick to doing 1 of the 4 all the time.
But there are so many adcheivements that can be aquired doing things as a guild, in all aspects of the game. I was in a great guild with vent that advertised the things above, and it ended up being Straight WvW only, and if you where doing PVE then you would get kicked after three warnings.
Did I get kicked? No..I left the guild do to false advertisement. DO NOT tell me how to play the game that I paid for.
So unless you find a nice size guild that stands on their ad, that does exactly what their ad says, then stay in that guild, but it is unlikely that will ever happen. So basicly being in a guild is not always a good idea for PVE. You are better off making a guild yourself, and just using the bank tabs.

Oh yes. Though I actually find a smaller guild is better for PvE. We share loot constantly, we use our guild bank very well for this, we play together. The bonus from the guild like magic find and such can be handy too and that’s who I draw my dungeoning partners from.
But we’re also really mellow and never ever ever has anyone in this group ever told me ‘no you can’t play your character this way’ or ‘you need to play X character for this’ or ‘you need to make this’.
failure is still a monumental success, assuming
losses remain within acceptable parameters.
I prefer smaller guilds. Hell, Id prefer to just have 3 or 4 people on my friends list to group with and BS with, rather than a guild. However, that probably wont happen so Ill settle for a guild with like..10-20 people total…close tight knit group.
Actually Cesmode, that’s exactly what my guild is. And it works amazing. You’d be surprised how much easier it is when there’s only a handful of you (also this is better for WvW too as there’s more guilds to contribute to buffs, but that’s a side note).

I use Guilds as a social chat channel mainly. The bank space is nice too. It’s another case of the City of Heroes way having spoiled me, I’m used to having a half dozen player-created “Global” chat channels crossing all servers in my chat window at all times, specialized for various purposes (finding RP, finding Dungeons, hunting specific sort of zone events, working on Achievements, just general Social, etc.) These days, I mainly use Guild Chat as a way of keeping track of cool stuff happening in other zones while I’m out in the world. The fact that I can only listen to one guild at a time is… well… it’s terrible, in my opinion. I have no idea why they’d deliberately set it up like that, other than to appease the egos of Guild Leaders with an over-inflated sense of importance.
PUGs are especially bad in GW2, even compared to other MMOs (where they are also frequently bad).
My guild is large and well-organized. We have an in-guild marketplace, have pve, wvw, and pvp scheduled guild events, just like you’d have a scheduled progression raid in other game. It’s also a good source for ad hoc groups or fun activities. We have VOIP, website, and a common code of behavior and values. I wouldn’t play GW2 without my guild.
Guilds are stifled by the weak in-game support for them, but there’s substantially more benefits than a +10% magic find buff.
What are they for in PvP?
Pardon me for asking, but…WHERE IS GvG?
If there is no GvG, it’s NOT GUILD WARS.
Just sayin’
Hello!
What are guilds really for in PVE? I’ve been playing this game since it came out, and i took part in 3 guilds. I don’t see any benefit at all to be part of one except for the fact of getting the guild bonuses.
In other games such as Rift, I relied on my guild members 1000% more to join dungeons and do quests. I don’t feel the need to rely on them for anything in this game.
What do you think?
Apparently they are only there for % to mf to get you up to the % you need to actually get a single drop in an entire day of farming. OR to get 100 gold together so you can actually clear out some of the required zones for 100%
