Guildwars 2 Civil War Reinactment
Why even bother naming the guilds that…? If you’re using rifles it obviously wouldn’t even be an attempt at recreating the Charr/Human war….

You are correct. The Human/Charr war was not a civil war. The OP is referencing the American Civil War of the mid nineteenth century.
All participants would be rifle warriors with killshot, we would line up in rows and have bannermen + marching bands using the gemstore instruments while we shoot each other.
In the backline we would have engineers with Mortars down for cannons.
You do realize that in no war in American history did combat actually work like that? It’s a large portion of why the Americans won the revolution: the British had their “rules of engagement” which included lining up and trading volleys as their commanding officers sat off to the side. The Americans took potshots at them from behind trees, bridges, and walls while snipers took out the British officers.
TLDR: the Americans won the revolution because they fought dirty. This style transferred to the American Civil War with even deadlier results (and the invention of new weapons like the gattling gun didn’t help).

lordhelmos — interesting idea. I love history, so I’m in.
Actually, Drarnor, both are true in relation to the U.S. Civil War. The Union and Confederate armies both lined up and shot in ranks and used stealth methods as well. You can see reasonably accurate reenactments in the amazing films Glory and Gettysburg, which present the fact that troops definitely did march in ranks on many occasions. Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg was a long march, in ranks, across a huge open field; no stealth (and major slaughter).
It’s funny. What General Cornwallis called “dirty fighting” (or probably more accurately “ungentlemanly fighting,” considering the times) an American rebutted with "Smart tactics.

Exactly.
Generals at the time of the American Civil war were still drawing heavily from the tactics of the Napoleonic wars despite the fact that advancing technology had made them dangerously obsolete.

Although what you say is true for engagements featuring a lot of militia, like Concord and Lexington, the Continental army did fight with more conventional tactics, like at Brandywine, Germantown and Saratoga for example.
So…Charr won, so we would be the Muricans?
Nah. Wait and re-create the biggest battle of medieval Europe, 1410 Tannenberg/Grunwald. We already have German community out there.

It always just makes me think how people see Gettysburg as this big place, and rightfully so.
But to me, its just meh because its my back yard XD.
Its like my teacher said. "I see ghosts all the time during the summer here, in broad daylight no less! Then fall comes and " poof" they all disappear….:p"
Please no. I rather see something from Guild Wars actual past (lore wise) then some real life event being mocked up in game. You could have the charr being chased out of Ascalon, when the humans first arrived. Or the war that happened just before the Foefire occurred. Or even go all the way back to when the human nations were at war with each other during the Guild Wars. So people actually know what the title stands for. Just no more out of place out of place stuff that does not directly relate to the in game material. Heck you can go to Field of Ruins and see Separatist humans and Renegade charr are still going at it.

yep, I also think a r/l related thing, like a war, does not belong in a fantasy universe. Things like that make GW2 a total turnoff.
Next thing you know you`ll have a Charr acting as Schwarzenegger knockoff and an Asura as Stallone. Both running around in the Maaguma jungle. One running from Predators (Destroyers) and the other freeing POW`s with Pact Choppers overhead….
and a new Living story chapter called “The Independables”…. oh yea…

I would love to see a bunch of rifle warriors in WvW using firing lines. I can hear the sound of Taps being played afterwards already. lol
I’m a history major, I’m all for teaching people the past through fun activities, but it still has to be accurate. What’s the point of making the Confederacy 2m tall fuzzy bull cats?
In german we have a saying: “Schuster, bleib bei deinen Leisten.” (en: “cobbler, stay at your bootstrap stretchers” doesn’t really have a nice flow to it >_>) It means, focus on what you are good at. Anet is good at presenting the history of Tyria (well with varying success), they shouldn’t mingle in real world history, unless they make a new game with the focus on real world historical events (in that case I would offer myself for the position of historical adviser cough cough)
I think people have really begun to miss what the OP was saying lol. He means a player event, not an event or something the devs would make (though they are more than welcome to participate).
How about we reenact the Russian Civil War instead?

I don’t see the point in that either to be honest. I mean even with real life reinactments, I get that people think they are fun, but I don’t think they have much educational value. And that would be even less in a game that is not ment to recreate the time frame. I mean with real life reinactments you have atleast the right weapons, uniforms, maybe even battle tactics. I just can’t think that could be translated into GW2.
I may be picky about it, however I work in the field and you see the history we have is the only one we have, so we should go out of our way to represent it correctly, or else we get a skewed image over time.
Here ya go, this one was made a while ago but is still relative to this conversation. I take no credit for it either.
