Hello,

im an old player, super active on this game and i want to hear points of view.

First: How many players you think we have actually at March 2016 playing actively this game.

Second: What future can we expect? Thinking this while new features from Hot seem not “completed”, thinking this also cause new legendaries have been cancelled, thinkin this becouse WvW seems left behind.

Note: I love this game, im not crying about nothing. But this is something that’s on my thoughts and seems people are thinking this game has no future. Please convince me otherwise, if you can.

No trash talk please.

Actually, I think quite the reverse. MO seems to be doing triage on the game — fixing the problems that will have the most impact and bringing us things that the most people want.

He’s brought bunny ears and SAB back. He’s pushing to get the living world rolling again. These are things that will keep the player base here / bring players back again.

There are upcoming WvW fixes — though they’ve now decided to fix things in pieces rather than trying to fix it all at once (because that was taking too long). There are also upcoming changes to fractals in about 2-3 weeks. Supposedly, HoT changes are coming too, but I don’t know if it will be in this update or not. Also, they should be finishing the first raid by putting out the third wing in a few months.

What we aren’t getting seems to be legendary weapon collections (despite being promised them), world 3 of SAB, and season 1 of living story.

All things considered, they do seem to be prioritizing what will get them the most goodwill back. No, they aren’t doing everything I would like, but they are doing good things.

That’s a good point of view. Now i’d like to read a pesimist one. So after i can search by myself a middle in between both.

thanks

Good questions, but it’s really hard to predict. I can’t deny that the in-game population seems smaller to me post-HoT. And it used to be when I checked the worlds page, all the worlds said high or very high even late at night for me. Now, even at prime time for my area in the US, I see mostly mediums.

But since I know that MMOs can continue operating with very small numbers overall (Rift, LOTRO, SWTOR, etc. all still run even though their numbers are really pretty low) it’s hard to figure on a game actually ending. So few really actually close, but it doesn’t mean they’re popular, either. It just means they make do with small pockets of content and less bug fixes. GW2 can do the same if the numbers keep dropping over the next few years.

As for content, I don’t know if it’s just their definition of a big expansion and mine are very different, but HoT seemed like a small expansion to me, especially when they start tossing out content originally intended for it. It’s easy to make a big long list of features to get people excited, but if they think it’s okay to announce features and then not deliver them, well, I figure some people like me aren’t going to be impressed if this keeps happening just to sell expansions and then make life easier for themselves later by not delivering.

And if Anet thinks $50-100 is a great price for an expansion of the size of the first one, then I don’t expect future expansions to be any bigger. They may even be smaller. Will enough people overlook all this and keep buying and playing? That’s the hard part to predict.

This type of dev behaviour is happening all over the gaming industry.

Promise stuff, take your money, then don’t deliver.

Thousands of players have left to go find another game and community that won’t try hoodwink them. By the time the damage is repaired this game will be past it’s sell by date. There is fresh games out there already. What’s the point in this company anymore?
What if they do it again? Then I’m the fool.

Wow, bunny ears and sab. That has saved the game. As for the rest of the post regarding what may be coming, all conjecture and it will remains to be seen as to when they will arrive(if they do) and if they actually change the game for the better. It’s wait and see right now. Fingers are crossed but the only impact the game has made on me over the last year or so is to ensure that I no longer spend real money in the gem store or gem cards.

Hello,

Ummm… enough people that I haven’t seen a world boss event fail in a very long time unless I was on an overflow for Teq. Enough people that I have to watch my banner like a hawk. Enough people that I’m regularly the dumping ground of an aggro train of someone sprinting by. Enough people that the map chat seems active no matter the map I’m on.

Second: What future can we expect? Thinking this while new features from Hot seem not “completed”, thinking this also cause new legendaries have been cancelled, thinkin this becouse WvW seems left behind.

You can expect a future where ANet tries to balance being a business and providing us entertainment as their business. You can expect things to be added/removed that cater to your desires as a player, and you can expect things to be added/removed that have nothing to do with your interests in the game.

As long as you still have fun things to do in the game, you can expect to have fun. When you run out of fun things, you can expect to need to find fun elsewhere… hopefully only until more fun stuff gets added that entices you to return.

You can expect your in-game friends to come and go, as their interests and needs change for their entertainment.

Note: I love this game, im not crying about nothing. But this is something that’s on my thoughts and seems people are thinking this game has no future. Please convince me otherwise, if you can.

There are always going to be people around crying the sky is falling. They might be right… but more likely it’s that “this game has no future” for them. I’ve never met anyone who could reliably predict the future (which is why I usually have an umbrella with me).

What’s important for you is your entertainment needs. Does GW2 still provide it? If yes, then by all means keep playing.

I’ll look forward to your aggro train, but leave my banner alone.

id like to be on the optimist side but after legendary weapons being cancelled im not taking anything on faith re: gw2 any more.

that said what has been talked about for the future sounds great and if it actually happens i do believe it will put the game in a good state

Most wanted in game additions: Beastiary, readable books

Guild Wars isn’t dead by any measure.

PvE is doing very well, as is sPvP.

If they fix the issues with WvW and stop mistaking it for PvE then they have a good chance a large number of large scale PvPers will return.

WvW was always going to have issues, the way it was implemented ensured that. In an ideal world there needs to be 2 different large scale PvP game installations, one for PPT/WvW people, one for GvG people. While the present WvW maps are suitable for PPT they aren’t really designed for GvG.

If they can somehow get a suitable solution for that then the future looks good for Arenanet.

The future:

  1. Promise,
  2. Don’t deliver,
  3. Bread and circuses to appease the masses,
  4. Goto 1.

When I think back to to the launch of GW2, and compare that to now, it serves as a real confidence booster. Back then, class balance was absurd, culling was prominent, botters were frequent, bugs were unavoidable, and the community was segmented through servers (mega-servers didn’t exist then — not even server guesting was a thing).

There was
No account wardrobe.
No account wallet
No account mini’s
No fractals of the mists
No edge of the mists
No pvp reward tracks
No API keys
No vistas
No collections
No PvP leagues
No spectating
No guild halls
No XMP

Dyes were character bound
Stats were tied to trait lines
A very limited pool of available skins
A very limited pool of gem-store items
Limited functionality with commander tags
Dungeon tokens took up bank space
The trading post UI was clunky
Achievement points were useless
Less world events
Less PvP maps

And much more.

Sure, you could say “But A-net has had 3 years to do that stuff — and that’s all they’ve come up with!” But who wants to think with a mindset like that? Whether it’s true or not, I am thankful for what they have worked to provide my friends and I, and I’m looking forward for what’s to come.

While some people may say that HOT was small, lacking content, a fail or not worth the money asked for it. I think it was still a success. Sure even the profits might not have been as much as hoped for but for me personally and for the game overall I think it was a success.

Yes the story was super short and a lot of the content was tied into the mastery lines or meta events but I think most people over look the fact that some pretty big systems were put into place that wont need to next time.

Guild Halls is one that I am speaking of. The amount of work that must have gone into that boggles my mind. The size of the halls, the upgrades, all the “recipes” for each individual upgrade. Then there’s the arena, which is something that people have been asking for, for a long time and are even STILL asking for. Duelling but it goes so far more than simple duelling. Just imagine all the work that went into guild halls alone. How many people, how many hours? As I said above this wont be needed for the next expansion, not the core of it all at least anyway, perhaps maybe a new hall or 2. But still, a lot of the groundwork has been laid.

The mastery lines and that system. Again I should imagine a lot of work went into this. Like guild halls, the ground work has been laid all they need to do is add more in future. Ditto too with Elite specialisations.

Gliding, while this may seem like a small addition. It is a HUGE one in terms of gameplay and the freedom it gives the player as well as new ways to explore the old maps. Again, this is more groundwork laying. Just imagine how this feature can be used in not only any new expansion but anything added to the core game.

Yes there were negatives with HOT but I think this game is still alive and well and do still have high hopes for it. Lets just be patient, but still hopeful that Anet may come good on some of the wrongs that have been done, and yes there are some that even I am not too happy about. However I want to end this on a positive note. So with that being said:

Viva Las Vegas! Oops I mean, to Infinity and beyond! No, no, no that is still not right……ummmm, hey I swung my sword again, that’s great…Doh!

No, no, no, we need something……please, someone help me out here, what should GW2 catch phrase be!? (and please don’t say we will know “when it’s ready”…) O.O

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

Of course the game has way less players than at launch or even 2 years ago, but all games suffer from that, people move on, grow up, get jobs, start families, yadda yadda,

SAB being dropped now, ( like someone on reddit said ) was massive damage control, and something to shift the momentum on the forums away from the legendary fall out, but its something that was asked for, for along time so who knows,

As for the future of this game, only MO and the Anet team can decide that, if they can put out content the way they are claiming the can by cutting resources and other projects, then the game will be ok for a few years yet, if they continue to cut projects/resources and don’t deliver the content, then the game will continue to suffer to the point where they have to ask is it worth it.

The world populations are predicated now entirely on WvW. It has nothing at all to do with the population of the homeworld.

I don’t know anyone that things that WvW is doing amazingly right now, but those medium, high or very high servers are only evidence of how many people WvW on those servers.
