ive been playing gw2 for over 3 years and i still dont understand why we dont have a groupchat such as teamspeak3 inside the pvp. its not a fair fight when the other team can commune with eachother while your team has no communication one to another but while ur only other way is to use chat and risk getting typed kill so why doesnt arena net add teamspeak to the game ?

If the other team is using Teamspeak, or some other VOIP, why can’t your team? Seems fair.

There are plenty of external VOIP applications out there, like Teamspeak. Ultimately it’s a question of balancing cost and benefit – would you rather the devs devote resources to creating new content for the game, or implementing something that already exists outside of it?

As for the other team using VOIP – that’s taken into account to some extent in the matchmaking. Parties have their MMR scaled up to compensate for being better able to co-ordinate. If anything, parties not using VOIP are penalised by this, so you may actually be getting an advantage against the other team!

Unless you’re queueing as a full party, you get 90s to agree on what to use, share server details, etc. Not really going to happen.

Neverwinter had built-in voice comms, enabled by default for parties.
And hardly anyone used it! Most folks just turned it off and those players who wanted comms used teamspeak.

I agree, voip in spvp would actually be really good. Could even have it in pve too but only when you are grouped. Plenty of other MMO’s have it like neverwinter and lord of the rings online.

I can see less people being toxic just because they can now talk to one another and hear each others voices. Could even make new friends.

You don’t have much experience with voice chat as the primary way of communicating in a game do you?

The only difference is you can generally tell if the person insulting you is 12 years old, which makes it easier to brush off.

Of course it also brings in a whole new range of ways for people to annoy their team mates, like the person who designates themselves the group (or map, or server) DJ and blasts their terrible music through their microphone or the person who doesn’t understand push to talk or taking the microphone off to eat, or the screaming kids in the background…

It does have tactical benefits in some situations, but there are definite downsides too, especially when everyone is lumped into it by default and none of the people in the channel have the authority to kick people who misuse it.
