I ran a different thread through the meat grinder of the forums last week and also did some asking around in the client itself on various maps at various times. I asked several questions such as “what is your #1 thing you want for the future Feature Patch?” Would you rather get new maps or new cosmetics/skills? Would you rather have a bug free Profession or new maps/skills/etc…?

What I’ve found is that….

Players are more inclined to Overlook bugs or become frustrated with quality gaps when they are given more options to play with.

If Gw2 had 3 maps and 2 of them were Bugged beyond belief, Players would be less satisfied than if Gw2 had 4 Maps and 2 of them were in the same bugged state as before. Players would have more options to work around these bugs.

If Gw2 only gave you 10 traits and 3 did not work, players would cry foul but if players were given 20 traits and 3 did not work there would be most likely be less focus on it and less grumpy posts on the forums. People could work around those traits and still get enjoyment from the game.

Not really that surprising I know, you can see it reflected here upon the forums as well. When no new content is being added then players dip towards bug reporting and asking/demanding fixes. When new content is given in tiny chunks, players lean towards asking or wishing anet would give them much more and faster.

But why do players really want more and faster? Because players want OPTIONS above all else. Currently LS release rate does not really place that many options at the players feet and feature patches haven’t done as much of that as they seem to be demanded to.

Why was the April feature patch so well received even tho it contained not much short of a UI overhaul and a new system?

Customization

or rather, the illusion of customization. The April patch gave players access to the Wardrobe that allowed them to see all the skins they had unlocked or needed to unlock. In all honesty this did not give players more options for customization but helped many to realize the amount of different skins and looks they could achieve and use. By re purposing existing content and presenting it in a much easier to access and use way, Anet won back a lot of favor.

So players like Options but what options are they the most hungry for?

Using rough totals:

When asked what their Number 1 most wanted thing was it was fairly even between Bug fixes, Content (new maps, new dungeons, hard mode, etc..), and Customization (skins, skills, new weapons, new classes, new traits, new progression systems, etc..)

Customization seemed to bump out the other two but really only just slightly, Content coming in second place and bug fixes last (not really a surprise)

When asked between Bug fixes or Content/Customization it was always a land slide victory for Content or Customization.

But when asked Content or Customization..

There seems to be a majority winner, it’s not a giant gap but its still somewhat clear.

So, to conclude, As of this time…

A larger majority of Players would Prefer that Anet add more options for Character and Play customization!

This ranges from Skins (preferably not gem store bound or related) Skills, New traits, New progression systems (sub classes), to Mounts or First person camera modes. I would even go so far as to add Player Housing, Guild Halls and the like to this category.

So, Gw2 Forum community, can we sit down and come up with What our top wants under Customization are?

For the second half of this thread, it’s up to you guys to do exactly that.

In order, what are the 3 things you most want to see Anet focus on bringing to the game in the form of Character customization?
