basically, How much space is guildwars 2 taking up on the harddrive at the moment?

thinking about buying an ssd most solely on GW2 but maybe other games aswell. So kinda need to know how much i definately need by 120/250 or maybe 500 for more storage of other games perhaps

21.7GB on my SSD drive. I used to play off a Western Digital Black series and recently switched it to an SSD, it appears to be loading stuff in the game a lot faster.

:edit: I got the SanDisk Extreme Pro 240GB 2.5in SSD, very happy with this.

GW2 requires about 20-25 gigs total, remembering you’re adding a gig a year with updates. Most modern MMO’s or FPS’s take about 15-40 gigs each, with some high end games using 60 gigs.

If your OS is on a SATA drive, you will not see much performance increase from putting just games on an SSD. You need to install windows AND the games on SSD, preferably windows and software on primary, games and data on secondary.

If anything, you’ll see a bigger improvement for OS on SSD and games on SATA if you can’t do both.

I agree with Loxias. My SSD runs my OS and most played games. I keep the much larger WD drive for my D drive and it has all my music etc…

Yeah .. the performance boost on Windows is much more noticeable than just
the loading times in GW2.

Also before installing Windows on your SSD check if AHCI is enabled in your BIOS.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

gw2 uses up to 25 gb space. however, write operations on ssds actually damage the disk which results in a memory loss over time. regular updates mean that there will be a loss of memory capacity while the game at the same will only get bigger (especially with the expansion coming soon) which is why i’d suggest you count in some extra space (5-10gb) in for gw2 if you want to use the disk over several years.

I didn’t get an SSD until 256GB was affordable.

That’ll do for OS, Games + a Steam library.
If just OS and GW2, a 128GB will be fine.

Also if you get a 128 you can always get a 2nd later, stick them in RAID0 and get higher transfer speeds.

I’m working on a
256Gb OCZ vertex 4 (old SSD) with windows, program files, and the hybernation file.

My swap file is located on a 10k RPM together with internet cache and downloads folder.

My user files and the like on a raid 0 HDD set (which is backed up 4 times a month.)

Media files and such are on a NAS (RAID 1). My NAS and Internet are via 2 seperate Networks to minimize interference from filetransfers in my LAN (yes 2 ports on NAS 2 on PC, 2 on wifes PC double wiring. but I do not expericne any lag or probelms when gaming when my wife makes a backup and the other way around.

And yes NAS is only active when I’m asleep for Downloads if I need to make ’m.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
