Gw2 ingame community is awesome
Dragonbrand has been pretty decent as far as community goes. But I notice that the OP plays on Tarnished Coast, which is an RP server. Experience has shown me the best MMO communities can almost always be found on RP servers. Even if you don’t RP, the experience there is usually the friendliest that can be had. If anyone is having a lousy time where they are now, I’d suggest they try Tarnished Coast before writing off the game community.
Usually see a good community in Sanctum of Rall. Only once did someone not rez myself and another player who had gone down.
I found out later they were a guildie of the other player who read them the riot act afterward
In time people will get bitter or bored or realize they have little reason to help people. Soon enough people will just run right over your corpse instead of taking 5 seconds to rez you. Ask a question about the game in chat and people will say, “Why didn’t you just look at up at XYZ.com, you noob!” Or, "…you’re playing X class, you stink or you don’t have an exotic set of gear??
It only turns inta that if people let it. The game mechanics themselves don’t support that kind of attitude, though, since you actually get xp for reviving people, not to mention the “you scratch my back” karma. Like other people keep sayin’, this game really goes a long way toward making people feel like they’re playing with instead of against each other in PvE – there’s simply no reward for bein’ a jerk. Of course, that won’t stop some people, but if ya make an effort to be a good player and hold onta what we’ve got right now, you’re already part of the solution.
I’m sorry I stepped outta yer box, don’ worry, if
ya whine enough they’ll put me right back.
I think generally people are helpful. The game encourages this behavior in the fact there isnt a lot of competition over things…so often if theres something you want they want it too. Even when you need ressurected people will do it (ofc they get exp and unlock an acheivement for doing it a lot). So the game rewards good behavior so that is good. On the flipside i have seen toxic behavior arise occasionally due the fact “what is there to lose?” feeling. Since people dont need other people..they can call everyone around them names and tell them they’re dumb with no real retaliation as they can just follow you around and tag everything you kill and benefit.
To add to that because the game does force people to do things together, i notice most players to actually be very quiet and unsocial. Most people who rez me say nothing afterwards and run away and dont respond when i ask to join them. Visa i’m often not met with a thank you after. At first i did, but personally i see it less and less as it just becomes an expected part of the game. People dont group outside dungeons often (i literally been in one outside RL friends) because there is no benefit to. My guild experience is also a bunch of people who never talk to each other just doing their own thing simply in it for the guild perks (havent tried a WvW guild yet because i’m worried they’ll force me to do it when they do)
So, its not a very strong community imo compared to other mmo’s i’ve played “easily the weakest in this area” but definitly not a very toxic one due to the design of the game. I just wished there was more guild and group activities to encourage the social side of the game.
Fully agree with the OP. I’m on TC too and love it. The community is awesome.
SoR is great i have been helped on a number of occasion and returned the favour many times. In all online enviroments you get the Idiots (but that is what the block fuction is for).
Having a Group of players on the same server helps as you start to get to know everyone slowly.
Fort Aspenwood has been very good so far with no negative expect when conversations start talking about countries and politics lol. Only negative i had was when people dont help me kill off a champion but instead open the chest then run away.

Mess with the best, die like the rest.
I’m also on Tarnished Coast and it’s been great so far. I fully expect to have the occasional bad experience, but it hasn’t happened yet. People have, for the most part, been friendly, helpful, and pleasant.

I may hope over in TC since people are loving it so much. : 3
The forum community on the other hand lol..
There is no better community than Guild Wars 2 from my experience so far. (400 hours played)
What i absolute love is how easy it is to find a group in level 80 content. People are nice or helpful there.
Very mature and i meet alot of people from my own age. Interesting, funny conversations about the game and real life.

I loved Desolation from day 1. I have spent many hours just standing still in random map to chat in mapchat. Trolls are not given the attention they crave, and everyone is friendly and helpful.
I may hope over in TC since people are loving it so much. : 3
The forum community on the other hand lol..
Aww Rise….its always that way in any game forum. Its too bad that seems to be the norm.
In any case, some of us just need a game fix from work…and ya’ll are elected!

My husband and I are on Sanctum of Rall and we have both noted that the community in general is pretty friendly and helpful. There were a few days a couple of weeks ago where the /m in Kessex Hills turned into something eerily similar to “Barrens chat” but overall it’s been good.
Sometimes people are too nice. Sometimes I’d rather see someone kill the mob that put me into a downed state then for them to try to res me — only for us both to end up dead.
But yes, people seem to be naturally treating each other as allies instead of enemies. (Which makes since since we’re all supposed to be united against the Elder Dragons.) The cooperative spirit is refreshing.
@ zoobaby: Okay, I’ll bite. What character names?
Totally agree on the ressing…kill the mob then res the person. I also think people help because resource nodes are per person, so no one is fighting over it.
Characters I’ve had to rename:
Brothel Babe, Bordello Bouncer (Given the nature of outfits/armor models and game rating…)
The third character name I kind of knew it would get axed, was a bit more explicit but I had used for multiple Beta weekends without issue and was a guild joke.
Back to the awesomeness of the community. Just this morning, doing an Orichi run on my before work, had some nice player come fight off mobs and res me. The we ran together for 15 to 20 minutes farming nodes before I had to leave. The level of cooperation is nice.

My problem with the community is not with the community but with the lack of content that makes you needed a community to achieve. I would like to see large events/ raids that took strategy and not zerging to best.
Sea of Sorrows has been very enjoyable so far. I’m in the US, and my friends and I went to the unofficial oceanic server because there would always be people on. I have had such a pleasant experience with my fellow gamers from across the pond. Everyone is always helpful, polite, and genuinely interested in enjoying the game together. Now, there are a few oddballs that made it to my block list, but they were trying to goad a reaction out of people. However, they have been few and far between.
I had always heard that oceanic players were rude more so than US players, (hold off on those torches and pitchforks) but I would be hard pressed to find any evidence supporting that claim. Like most rumors, it was proven false.

well fergasons community have been decent in wvw we have had a bad egg pop up that would whine and tell others to shut up. in pve alot of people will rez you both during and out of the events people will tell people to watch a youtube video on the jumping puzzles but we will try to show you where to start from
My “community” in Darkhaven is pretty cool. If you are down, most will try to revive you. Pretty nice and friendly…..except for in WvW. Though that can be expected as there really is no real “leader” out there and everyone has different opinions as to what should be done.
That said, i truly HATE how Anet has implemented game features that do NOT help to foster community at all.
-DE’s are nothing more than a race to tag all mobs and afterwards leave.
-Heart quests essentially boil down to every man for himself.
-Dungeons, imo, arent the most popular.
So really, the only thing that helps foster “community” is reviving players and the fact that there is no mob stealing.
I know this game is still new, but i cant help but to think that Anet missed the mark big time on this. Moving forward, I would like Anet to implement “missions” ala GW1 and other things to foster better community; a closer community.
The community on HoD was great in betas. It was nice and quiet with no threat of big PvP guilds coming in. Then somehow we got blindsided and ended up on top of the WvW heap and it went down hill. Now all I get, especially in high level areas, is indifference, apathy and a fair bit of being a d-bag. I’m specifically talking about skillpoints and mob griefing.
If I am trying to fight my way to a skill point that has three veterans in front of it, it is not cool to run through the middle of the pack and get the skill commune and then scoot off without swinging a single blow. You are being a d-bag.
I can be fighting a mob or two and suddenly have some random character run over the top of me without stopping. Next thing I know, I’m dead. I can guarantee you that he was running from a string of anywhere between 2-8 unfriendles and by running over a fighting character, he’s just dumped aggro onto you and gotten away scot free. I’ve lost track of how many total and utter d-bags have done this to me.
Aside from this, everyone else is very nice. Thank you to anyone who has ressed me in an out of the way spot. Virtual cookies for everone!
Whiteside Ridge is so far one of the best servers ive ever been on in an mmorpg. The community is always chattering away about this or that in /w but it’s usually something usefull like locations of poi’s and events that are up(amongst the usualy humourous banter), so far ive only come accross 3 complete d-bags in game: one whispered insults at me becuase he thought i stole his kill (even though he got xp and i sorta prevented him from dying from links he hadnt noticed) and the other 2 were just morons messing about for the lulz then getting all angry at the fact they missed the veteran that had respawned behind them which subsequently downed them both and had to be kited away by my fellow guildmate so i could rez them both.
Gate of Madness is pretty awesome, though im kinda new so lol i dunno. Everyone says thx when they get revived (to which i reply a np), and they are not hesitant to revive me when they can. Very very great community!
Every so often, I’ll see some ridiculous drama congealing in Map Chat and go “What the heck, Tarnished Coast? I expect better of you.” This is usually about when I notice I’m actually on the Overflow server.
I really do miss the Global Channels of City of Heroes though. I’d hoped Guilds could work like that, with specific ones being made just for big groups of players to chat across many maps without having to leave our main Guilds, but only being able to see Guild Chat for your currently represented group kind of ruins that possibility.
Before the game launched the in-game community was one of my biggest concerns, being that it is B2P and there was a ton of excitement for it I worried that there would be a large amount of kittens blowing up the chat channels constantly with garbage. I am so glad this is not the case!
I love the community on TC, it is one of the better ones I have ever been a part of.
