Gw2 is a good game overall, however....
1. The ‘grind’ of 80.
Sure lvl 80 was fairly easy to get to (at least for me) but once i was 80 i quickly realized that “Uh oh, everything costs a fortune!” At the time, buying rares on the trader was much cheaper than crafting decent armor. But this still cost me about 4g. Which i am told, is cheap.
I get that AN doesnt want everyone running around in reds. But does it have to be THIS crazy? Recently there was a post about account security, and towards the end they commented on the importance of no one buying gold, because it keeps the gold farmers and hackers around. But my philosophy is and has always been, if games didnt make gold such a huge grind, everyone would have no need of mass amounts of gold.
I am not saying they need to give out free gold, but perhaps toning down the gross costs of some of the important items a little would be doable? There has to be an easier way for players to enjoy the game and still feel like it was a challenge to earn money. 100g for a culture set when my 80 rares have better stats?
I would farm the mats gladly, since i actually enjoy farming. but this leads me to issue number 2.
2. Anti-Farm Debuff
Anytime i try to farm for more than 15 minutes, i get the anti farm debuff on my character and mobs will no longer drop loot. I really do understand why this is there, but its actually HARMING HONEST PLAYERS more to have this. I am a farm a holic. I love farming and stocking my guild bank or personal bank. Please dont punish me for being patient enough to farm….
3. Pet/Summon AI
Sometimes I will have just killed something, and my pet will walk a tremendous distance forward, aggroing several mobs. I cannot tell you how annoying it is when I am just trying to look at my map, or heal up, or whatever, and suddenly because of my ridiculous pet, i am forced to face mobs I am not entirely ready for.
4. Guild Structure
It is a neat concept to have people join more than one guild. I get also why people like this. What I dont understand though, is why everything to do with guilds needs to be tied into something as important as the represent feature.
You need to represent in order to see guild chat, to use banners or buffs form the guild, and other really important features. Representing though, also earns the guild IP which is currency.
It costs a crazy amount of IP to get the good stuff in the guild upgrade section so naturally guilds will ALWAYS want you repping. So, even if im in a friends guild that isnt serious but we all like to socialize all day, I cant talk to them because im also in this pvp/pve guild i like that REQUIRES all members to rep all the time.
I understand where the GL is coming from, but this isnt my fault or his. Players should be able to rep one guild, and talk to friends still. It creates controversy where there should be none.
On a sidenote, the guild UI needs some work. It lacks information and i often find myself researching things on google to find out what things mean on the guild UI.
4. Bugs!
Everywhere i go, anytime i try to do my main storyline, an event, a skill point challenge, etc. You name it, i most often than not am unable to do it. I am currently waiting on 2 bugged skillpoints to be able to get map completion 100%. I should have had this about 3 weeks ago. One of the bugs, in ruins of orr lvl 80 area, has been bugged i am told, since release.
I get that alot of games have issues with bugs upon release. But its actually seemingly becoming a bigger issue than it was before. Trying to be patient with AN, I made an alt and re started on a new toon, only to find out that starting area had 2 event and heart bugs. So i logged, made a charr, and ran into the same issue, made a human and got to lvl 7 and BAM more bugs. So i am wondering why bugs seem more rampant than they were 3 weeks ago. And why i only see AN resetting servers constantly as a fix, and no announcements as to why this is truly happening.
I was also told recently by a guild mate to NOT finish the storyline quest, as it is bugged and does not give you a reward at the end, or bugs and gives you lvl 40 whites/blues.
Agreed completely about the anti-farming and pet AI. As a level 80 necro, those two issues are most impacting my enjoyment of the game.
Even when actively trying not to kill the same stuff in the same area, it still degrades drops to the point where you get almost nothing for long periods of time.
5. Costumes
Costimes seem fun. But when I cant use them in combat and theres so many restrictions, it becomes a killjoy for me. A great exmaple of this is that I am a med armor wearer, so i can ONLY wear med armor costumes.
Med armor is basically, trench coats…..annnd thats it. So if im not the unibomber, or neo from the matrix, i probably will get bored of the same old trench coat look.
Also, why cant we use costumes in combat? As long as it isnt pvp i dont think the npcs are going to cry hax anytime soon…
There are more small irks about the game here and there, but to be honest these are the issues that seem to bug me frequently. Im sure other people have other issues as well, and yes I am sure that AN has a lot on their plate atm.
I just want to let AN know that these are concerning issues for me and some others that i play the game with, and that if the issues persist (last more than 3 months from now) I can see my friends moving on to the next good game that comes along, which would suck because I am fond of gw2.
