I have seen a lot of trolling and a lot of threats to quit by a lot of players since launch. There have been players complaing about lack of endgame then turning around and complaining when new content like fractals and ascended gear comes out. Fact is, it’s impossible to please people and trying to can drive any rational person insane.

I myself have ventured onto the forums to complain once or twice because of execution or content I did not agree with, but the fact remains the devs are trying.

For all the complaints and threats of quitting that come out of the vocal minority, the devs try their best to address the complaints. Just because your complaints aren’t answered immediately doesn’t mean they aren’t read and they aren’t noted. Anet has fixed many bugs and problems since launch (if anyone remembers the silly beta glitches).

In short, the game is constantly evolving.

Why do I love this game?

Well, like I mentioned earlier, the devs are on top of things, they had botting problems and they got in front of them. They had class balancing issues, and they’ve done much to fix these. Rendering is still an issue, but as you can tell by the constant patches that they are trying their best to fix it.

The developers of this game not only try their best to stay on top of things, they are always releasing new content. I, for one, love to WvW and I was excited to hear about some of the changes coming to WvW.

The game is a refreshing change of pace to other MMOs and I will continue to support it. Will I voice my opinions strongly if I disagree? Yes… but I really enjoy this game and look forward to seeing the new content and playing with both my rl friends and friends I’ve made on this game.

Keep up the good work ANET

I only just started playing and I am having fun. However I am not new to MMOs. I think the lack of competitive end game PvE is a mistake and I think they will need to come up with something else to keep people interested. For now I am taking my time and learning the game. I’m really enjoying my personal story and dont even mind questing… Which is amazing considering I absolutely hated questing in WoW lol.

I love the game and agree for the most part but the class balance changes aren’t as drastic as you make them out to be… They have been taking a minimal approach to balance which is leaving some players a bit annoyed due to major reworks needing to happen to get the game to the “esport” levels that a.net themselves claim to want..

I love the game for many things but I can’t just be thankful for it because I see the potential the game has and wanna see it go in the right direction…. Most of the changes they made to combat the bots hurt players so that was a huge step in the wrong direction.. DR has hurt and even pushed some players completely away from the game. There are glaring bugs that have been annoying players since the beta that have simply been put on the back burner for other things that the devs felt were higher up on the list.

There’s a ton to love but a ton to hate because of how things are going and the lack of communication and the manor at which they are handling things just isn’t all that great. The key to starting in the right direction is fix the glaring bugs that the players can see and then work your way to the small bugs… While you may introduce other little bugs in the process if they are not hurting anything major and players aren’t complaining about them then they should be considered a low priority…..Then again players will complain about something no matter the case so I guess that point is invalid.

Point is they could be handing things much better considering the size of the team working on the game… They also need to improve the community communication and start making better judgement calls on some of the changes they introduce.

edit

I’m one of the players who loves the game to the point that I’m vocal about it because I don’t want it to fail… At the current rate that some of the issues are being handled though it has me fearing the worst… I know if all else fails it will become like gw1 with a medium community but I would rather it thrive with a high pop community.

I’m excited at where they can take these ideas, since the game is still so kitten young. Throwing aside all the ascended arguments and skill bugs and all that headache, I like that they started with all these dynamic and meta events in the game. I look forward to how these events evolve over time through patches, new idea, etc.

You just have to watch Angry Joe’s review to see what makes GW2 so special. And, he had GW2 as the top game of the year.

For me, also, I’m playing and enjoying the game more and more. I just reached 80 on my first character, and have three others on the go also. I feel like I have so much to do on my 80, but want to get all my other characters to 80 and all crafts to 400 also.

I’m having a great time with the game.

SniffyCube.6107, how many good MMO games you have played ever? Cause when you say favorite, you shall have basis to compare. I think you do not have. There is many MMORPG with no bots, with better gameplay, with much better PvP. GW2 is not bad game in fact, but it’s nothing special. And Anet made their manifesto. For me that manifesto was pure and clear lie, and that’s why I don’t like GW2. Anet promised me a new, revolutionary game, but sold me old stuff in shiny box.

I enjoy the game immensely and all I do is PvE. While I do recognize obvious deficiencies the game has, it does not negate the fact that GW2 is a good game.

GW2 is only 5 or so months old, it isn’t perfect. It takes time for any title to get squared out. Does that mean that players should just accept it? Of course, not. However, it is possible to disagree without being disagreeable. Criticize the game, but do it constructively. Civility, these days, is severely lacking.

Why you bein’ cute?

I’ve played everything from EQ WoW Rift Swtor to War and LOTR online – I’m a sucker for mmos

The manifesto? Yes, I was reading some of the amazon reviews when I was buying this game for xmas. A lot of players complain and feel “betrayed” by the ascended items. Many of them even going as far as giving it a 1 star and warning people not to buy it. Sure, I can understand where you’re coming from, but the ascended items don’t make you that much better. A small increase in stats from rings and a backpiece will not make you amazing or better than other players except on paper. The real stat that matters is the agony resistance which only applies to fractals anyway, and if you’re big on fractals you can earn enough tokens for the backpiece and get the rings with AR.

I do agree it was a strange move but it pertains more to pve’ers who do the fractal dungeons. The differences in wvw (where you are pitted against the players with those items) is negligible imo

Honestly I believe those who are unhappy with the fundamental pillars of GW2 should just quit instead of infesting the forums.
I’m tired of reading people asking for things such as tanks/healers, DPS meters, raids, more skillbars, removal of unique features and whatnot.
GW2 was made to be a breath of fresh air for people who are done with those mechanics.
Things can be “adjusted” but you will never see a complete overhaul of the features that are reason for the majority of the playerbase to play GW2.

Bottom line, if you want improvements it’s ok but if you want drastic changes just change game.

GW2 has been one of my favorite games this year, I’ve been playing since launch and have been enjoying myself. It has a good community( my server is generally pretty cool )my guild is active so I always have a group but there are areas I hope ANet improves on. Better incentives for people to PvE some players don’t bother due to the drops not being that great especially for fighting Champions. An LFG tool for the dungeon crowd, improvements for WvW( incentives for guilds holding keeps and camps especially for the defense minded players )& better drops in WvW. Of course the things I’d like for ANet to improve on they have already announced plans for them I just hope things pan out. I would like for this game to have longevity, but for that to happen fixes will have to be made. That’s one of the things I love about it great game with a lot of potential.

I really have nothing bad to say about the game. Anet did a great job. Does it need a little tweeking? You bet. Will it keep me from playing and throwing some money at the cash shop? Not at all.

Fanboy threads are just as useless to a forum as rage threads are.

Much of the criticism that has been leveled at ArenaNet is fair and justified (although in reality it is likely Nexon that are to blame). They made many promises during development, and then changed their minds AFTER people paid for the game. Just because you love their game so much doesn’t mean that the players who were lied to aren’t entitled to be angry about it.

Haters don’t see the difference between a fanboy thread and a topic praising some aspects of the game. If the OP were saying “OMG, the game is perfect, there is nothing to be improved!”, it would be a fanboy topic. Saying “I like this aspect of the game” is just telling ArenaNet how one specific part of the game was well done enough to be pleasant for someone.

Ya know – I was going to start a thread “what do I like about GW2” but decided to add to this one.

IMHO: A video game is about visuals – I like to have my fairly decent hardware doing something useful. GW2 looks great and even better in Stereoscopic 3D. I’ll often find get surprised and myself getting attacked because I was to busy looking at the scenery!

Even the animals look interesting. Not a smudge of color when looked at closely. While the animations are fairly decent the ‘effects’ players and NPC’s can dish out are very cool looking.

Open world. I’ve played ‘corridor’ games before and I prefer ‘open world wandering’. Here’s where I think GW2 has made it a little less ‘daunting’ in the way they RATE all the animals/NPC’s with their perspective ‘level’ as well as designate the general level of different sections of the game world on the map. Its easy to find areas to explore where your not going to get ‘instant killed’ because you and the areas levels don’t match.

Speaking of the map, I like that the ‘dynamic events’ are marked on it! More than once I found myself knee deep in aggro NPC’s and animals only to find that I’d accidentally stumbled into the middle of a dynamic event!

The towns are scattered and not everything is always available in every town – which promotes more traveling. Speaking of towns, each one seems unique enough where they don’t seem to be ‘rubber stamped’. The towns and game world lacks repetition, everything seems unique.

But enough on the visuals…

When it comes to actual game play, classes and mechanics I think GW2 has done well in these areas too. While this is one of the 1st recent titles that I’ve forced myself to use a KB/Mouse with, I like being able to ‘quick switch’ between two different weapon sets, Rangers get ‘pets’ to add to their DPS and distract combatants. Some games allow everyone to do everything, other games only allow some people to do some things. I think GW2 hit a good “happy medium” with their class system. I feel I have a decent amount of different attacks that I can use depending on my play style. Choice is good and I think GW2 gives me a good selection to pick from.

At first I thought that there simply was not enough inventory space for stuff your carrying around but once I got used to it AND started to ‘bank’ my crafting stuff, inventory space is not an issue.

I really have not noticed any ‘drop rate’ issues because I think the ‘karma vendors’ more than make up for the lack of getting good useable drops from events. All my best gear I’ve bought from Karma vendors!

Since I use my ample supply of Karma for equipment upgrades, I sometimes wonder what the gold and silver is for as I can see at some point I’ll have way more of it than I need to use fast gates and armor repairs.

Overall I think this is a great game. Well done Anet.

In my opinion, that is what is wrong with the gaming fanbase. Too many rabid attacks, too few constructive criticisms.

The problem here is that GW2 has a lot of problems that all deserve criticism.

If I were to list off every single flaw in the design of this game, small or large, you’d consider that an “attack” because of its excess negativity and because of just how large the list really is.

And yet, I maintain that this is a great game. And I’ve talked several friends into buying it despite these flaws.

I just don’t for even one second believe that this game is perfect, and I do feel as though the dev team lost their way at some point because several of the game’s primary flaws are things they themselves said don’t belong in an MMO.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?

@SniffyCube that is great you enjoy the game but your OP was a little off. The botting you make it sound like the devs jumped right in and fixed the problem when in fact that is not how it was at all. They took a long time to address this and when they started to, LOTS of innocent people were getting banned too. That to me doesn’t sound like they did a good job. And like I said, this wasn’t address in a timely manor and there are still botters.

The class balancing thing has been an issue since launch. They did not step up to this either in a timely manor.

@Mackdose – “Such as? Don’t say “grind” because the grind in GW2 is faaaar less than other MMOs of late.”

Nope sorry. GW2 is a HUGE grind and the amount of hours you need to put in. Doing dallies in WoW takes a lot less time and it doesn’t take much to get to revered which is all you need if you “want” the gear. Maybe two tops for your profession recipes. To say GW2 is faaaaaaar less is a joke.

Well, that’s because it’s not really questing. It’s not talk to NPC, go do specific boring stuff, and go all the way back to the NPC, which is probably what you hated.

Cheers.

Cut out the parts about NPC’s and you get what GW2 leveling is; Do specific boring stuff.

Not at all, you have a choice of which things to do. Hence you do the less boring stuff.

That’s huge, it really is.

Cheers.

Subtle changes like that are lost on people who expect drastic change over iteration.

Taste is a very personal thing. There are some people that like having sex with a plastic bag over their head, but that in no way means it’s the best or most popular way to do it.

I just got to level 80 and I’m not grinding.

I’m working on finishing my personal story.

I’m working on getting my crafting to 400.

I’m working on getting Temples open to buy Karma gear.

I’m working on Map Completion.

I want to do dungeons soon.

I can do any or all of the above at any time I want and have a blast in the game. It certainly doesn’t feel like grinding at all.

Cheers.

Criticism is fine, as long as it’s constructive.

What I’ve seen many gamers do, however, is rant and rave, insult devs, etc.

It all depends on how you list the flaws. If you do it correctly, there will be very few people calling it an attack. On the other hand, if you can’t keep personal feelings about the flaw to your self (where they belong), then no matter how accurate you are, you will always be considered “on the attack”

First, you are noob /I mean bad player/. Second I did all that, including epic gear, till leveling to 80. It took about 2 weeks/3-4 hours per day. More 2 weeks I spent in WvW and sPvP. But I bought MMORPG, not a 1 month game. So, now what?

I don’t have the imagination… This is the most stupid thing I ever read. This is not a book, It’s a game. If I have to imagine things to play it, this mean the game has bad design, bad story or some other problem. Good games don’t need imagination, they make you act.

If you’re not going to substantiate your opinion while posting on a forum, why bother to post?

What I think are flaws and what you think are flaws might be different, hence the question. No need to be such an indignant sod about it.

Because me posting what I feel are flaws is off-topic.

If you really want a thread, fine, I’ll make one some time today. And then I’ll laugh as tons of people proceed to claim that I’m “attacking the game” simply for pointing out the flaws that everyone knows it has. I love this game, but it’s not perfect and I’m tired of people pretending it is.

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

Well, someone had the imagination to come up with this list:

Have you done all that? Or are you someone who just does Fractals all the time and then says there’s nothing to do?

^^ No offense, but just because there’s tons of stuff to do doesn’t mean it’s worthwhile doing… whether you interpret worthwhile from an interesting point-of-view, an acquisition standpoint, or some other perspective. A number of Rockstar games are a good example of what I’m talking about. Technically, they have 100+ hours of gameplay, but most of that gameplay is finding 100 pigeons or golden reels or whatever that give you nothing or don’t reveal anything really interesting about the game…. yeah it’s stuff to do, but hardly worthwhile (some of the minigames can be fun though).

I will try to explain you, like I’m trying to this amateurs from Anet by two months. This shall be a MMO, not a Tetris. If I play Tetris I can make level after level till max level, because the idea is to reach max level. In MMO I play because there is other people in game too. All the things in your list have nothing to do with other players. Some points, some levels, some ranks, and yes I made most of them. But who cares? I can make same kind of things in Skyrim, with better graphics, and better gameplay. But GW2 shall be MMO. What makes from one game a real MMO? Interaction between players. Like I said good games make you act, in best games you choose how to act, but motivation factors are implemented in the game. In GW2 you can choose how, but there is no need to. And about interaction, it’s the same story. You can do it, but no reason in game to do it. Easy and stupid raids. No big rewards. Easy gold, no real economy, so in fact you don’t need the gold. Anonymous and bugged mass PvP. Boring party PvP. Lack of 1vs1 PvP. No competition between players and guilds both. Lack of real tournaments. Lack of Heroes. There is some single player PvE, not very original story line, some dungeons. Ah, and some group dynamic events, which are not exactly what Anet promised – unique experience for everyone – cause events reiterate. Same village is burned from Centaurus over and over again. In fact GW2 is very stupid game, and definitely it’s not the game Anet promised in their manifesto. So you can imagine this is a great game, but it’s only your imagination dude.
