Ranger of Legacy of MARA [MARA]
Gunnar’s Hold.
Come on guys say your opinion.Keep it clean no trashtalks ty.You are up..
I want ritualist with the next cantha expansion
I think there is enough diversity within the world of Tyria at the moment.
Give it another year, maybe two, then we can start thinking of new classes. Remember this: Guild Wars only started out with 6 professions compared to the 8 of Guild Wars 2.
New professions are unlikely, but many of us still hope they eventually add a third Soldier-class profession.
As for races, at least tengu are a MUST.
More races, sure. Tengu, just for the hell of it. Kodan to take us to Jormag. Largos to take us to Bubbles.
More professions? No thanks. Lets balance the 8 we have, and then just work on improving them – more weapons, more skills, more traits. That will create enough to continually balance for the team.
I wouldn’t mind a new class, although imo 8 is enough and they have hard time balancing existing ones. New race though is a complete waste of resources in my opinion. Current zoo is exotic enough.
No, I don’t think we are ready for more professions yet, or races.
Currently, racial skills have next to zero actual use, so other than cosmetic features and only half of the personal story, your choice of race has next to zero impact on your gameplay. Even on the cosmetic front, we got so many problems with armor clipping and awkward animations that all should be fixed before getting a new race.
Regarding professions, we are not ready on that front either. Currently, professions are extremely shallow, with non-interchangable weapon skills, and a very limited set (and an even more limited set within that set which are useful and not bugged) of utility skills. Our characters really often seem more like characters in a beat-em-up rather than the deep and costumisable characters expected of an AAA MMO.
Putting the above aside, we also have severe balancing problems. How can you balance more classes when you can’t even balance the existing ones to an acceptable level? You can’t, it’ll be a mess.
In summary, fix and finish what you started before making new stuff.
I thought at the start they were planning on releasing new weapons periodically to keep things fresh (and thus new skills), buuut, then I found out gem-store additions and microcontent trumped real interesting and permanent content updates and changes.
I would like to see a 3rd ‘Heavy’ option, and really don’t care about a new race.
What I would like is more utility abilities added across the board, and more elites options (non racial)
I would also like to see a few more existing weapon options added to professions that are now not applicable too (e.g. Rifle on a Ranger, or shield on a Necro, etc)
What I would like is the old dual profession mechanic back. I never saw the point of having classes in the first place to be honest, it’s basically a reduction to build diversity and restriction of content to those who likes to focus on 1 character.
I definitely do not want any new race. I would be happy just with humans, but I guess this is acceptable for now, but no more.
About professions, I don’t really care. I know it would be very, very hard to balance. Especially for PvP. I don’t think there is need to add any new professions, they could just expand on what they have and add new weapons/skills/traits progressively.
All indications I have seen from Dev comments indicate they have a long list of things to “add” to the game and neither of these are visible on that list. Hey, there could be some super-secret expansion plans in the works they are keeping hush hush that includes new Races & Classes, but I’ve seen nothing that indicates this is the case (admittedly, it wouldn’t be very “super-secret” if we had).
From a financial perspective, it either (or both) would certainly increase character slot purchases.

New professions sell expansions… just sayin!
New races… YES. But with a gemstore added race change option (make it 800 gems or something like that). New Races I want to see
Race change rules:
You must have finished your personal story up to the point where you joined an order, then you can use the gemstore bought item to change the race of your character. Your previous home and personal story will remain the same (if you started as Charr and change to Human, your still have your home in the Black Citadel).
New Faction options… yes.
Gain the ability to join an enemy faction such as:
New Factions mean new WvW based on the open world maps. Could you imagine that whole centaur campaign in Harathi but with players on the human and centaur side?
New classes: maybe. Depends on how they pull em off. I’d take these:
No it doesn’t, and we aren’t getting any. Or so Anet says!
New races… YES. But with a gemstore added race change option (make it 800 gems or something like that). New Races I want to see
- Skritt
- Centaur
- Tengu
- Quaggan (everyone would race change into one btw… you want some money ANET?)
- Hylek

New classes: maybe. Depends on how they pull em off. I’d take these:
- Ritualist: From GW1. Specializes in spirits and communing with similar play style to their GW1 counterpart. Soft armor class. Elite skill sample: Lively was naomi: While carried applies fury and might. When dropped revives nearby allies or NPCs. (basically if you down while carrying it you’ll get revived by it).
- Dervish: Like the GW1 counterpart specializes in melee AOE and boons. Can strip own boons to provide effects (strip might to do strong AOE damage, regen to do aoe healing, etc). Heavy armor class. Elite skill sample: Kormir’s balance- Remove All conditions and boons from nearby allies an enemies. For each condition or boon removed deal 300 damage to nearby targets (5 targets max).
- Bard: New for GW2; Play songs to create boons, cause conditions, and summon animals, demons to attack for you. Your guitar also serves as a battleaxe. Elite Skill example – Rodgort’s Invocation: rip an epic guitar solo to summon Rodgort to fight for you. While Rodgort is alive you can rip more solos to command him. You and Rodgort gain stability.
Copypaste time.
Forget anything that is a studyable race in the LS. Thats Ogres, Skritt, Hylek, Grawl, Quaggans.
Forget any of the antagonist races/factions. That would be Centaurs (plus, how would they swim?), Nightmare Court, Flame Legion, Inquest, Svanir.
Largos are out as, according to the personal story, they are incredibly rare and avoid contact with all other races if at all possible. It would be as stupid as the Miqo’te in FF14 ARR – they’re supposedly rare and solitary creatures yet the designers make them in such a way that EVERYONE who faps to nekomimi will roll one.
What does this leave us? Kodan, Tengu, Ettin and a handful of others which have groups who are non-antagonistic. Kodan is out right away, they are Norn-based. Tengu are possible but require a very specific armour redesign and we can see what a mess Anet made of Charr armour. Ettin would be fun, but they don’t wear clothes so we can forget them.
As for the new classes, we have had multiple threads discussing these and they didn’t even get a dev response. Not happening.
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
Don’t think the game is ready for new Professions or Races.
In my opinion, it is ready for new weapons across all professions.
They need to do some serious work on the professions they already have before I’d suggest they add any new ones. There is still desparity between the classes, some classes are extremely weak against things like condi removal, some are extremely stupidly strong in DPS, some are insanely powerful in healing, and many are still stuck in cookie cutter builds.
For example, I was thinking about how they could improve the builds for engineers the other day, they could have added trait options for engis that allow turret engis the ability to remove conditions as quickly and efficiently as elixir engis by simply putting in a trait that made ANY regen cast by the engi remove conditions every few seconds like they do with the skills on the rangers.
It’s something they’ll have to make a CDI over in order to improve the classes even tho many of us have already submitted to them these kinds of things over a year ago in their suggestions forum.
New professions are not as good as giving new abilities to old professions. In other words, if you want a shadowknight then why not let warriors pack some traits and abilities that give them a shadowknight type feel. Nobody has to create a new character at level 1. Everyone with a warrior, which seems to be everyone in the game, is happy about their new warrior skills. Anyone who wants to feel like a shadowknight can do it.
Also, class balancing in games with many classes is a pain in the neck. In most MMOs there was one preferred tank class, one preferred healer, and a couple of preferred dps. All the other classes were mostly redundant and if the game had 12 classes then that was a lot of redundancy.
DaoC, regarded by many to be one of the better pvp MMO’s, (even this game’s WvW is kind of modeled after modes in that game), has like 45 classes.
Even though the balance here is a little off between viable builds between the current classes per game mode, I still think more classes would be nice.
Honestly, the only real place that balancing is needed is in pvp. Pve will always be trivialized, even more so in a game where armor doesn’t matter.
Right now, you have classes that can fill certain roles in spvp. Support, roaming, bunker, bruiser. Design classes with that in mind and I think it can be done.
Right now beyond those roles, each class does pretty much the same thing, but has different mechanics and ofc animations to achieve it giving each class a different feel and honestly, that’s all I want. A different feel/aesthetic.
@Stooperdale, I agree with the shadowknight aspect of what you said, but I probably would like to see that in some sort of subclass iteration. I disagree with the redundancy aspect though because to me it doesn’t matter if you have 10 classes that can tank, if they do it differently then that is 10 different ways I can tank. Variety is the spice of life and keeps things fresh.
I give myself variety here already. I have 2 of every class so far with very few sub 80. I play different builds on them all.
With that said, if the balancing team feels that they just can’t do it, I’m fine with that. That’s the reason I play different games to get the same thing I want.
New race: Some being that knows how to search the forums.
New class: A class that knows how to search the forums.
Am I doing it right?
I wouldn’t mind more races, but keep in mind that with more races come more work with armors and NPC dialogues – which in turn takes time so thus less content for the same amount of time. In all honesty, I’d only add races where they make sense on both a storytelling and ease-of-armor-making standard. Thus I’d limit, for what races are known to us, to Kodan, Largos, and Tengu roughly (I’d love naga for if we go to Cantha but the whole “serpent legs” thing kinda makes it unlikely).
For new professions, I only want one more – and just for the sake of having 3 professions per armor class. I don’t want more because the current 8 already fill most niches of gameplay, and more classes = more balance. Though thematically having 5 per armor class (1 non-magic + 4 schools per armor class). But still, I’d much rather have a larger variety of skills available to a single profession, including wider range of weapons and even weapon skill sets. More variety in the individuals, rather than more professions.
I play an Engineer exclusively. I’d sure like to have more weapons and weapon skills to level/play with.
I would really like to see the return of the Ritualist (spirit spam build ftw!)
I’d also like to see the Largos race introduced to GW2 – they are quite a cool looking race and I wouldn’t mind playing as one of them.
Would also like to see the kodan as a playable race. Could you imagine how epic a guardian kodan would look? All that shiny metal and ice looking armor. Stunning.
I think there is enough diversity within the world of Tyria at the moment.
Give it another year, maybe two, then we can start thinking of new classes. Remember this: Guild Wars only started out with 6 professions compared to the 8 of Guild Wars 2.
I am sure you just forgot to mention that you were able to have 2 of them what sums up to 64 professions.
I don’t even start the option you have with mixing the skills in your bar.
Just saying.
No idea why they dumbed GW2 so much down
But obviously some people would even happy with 3 races and 2 skills
(edited by Kurrilino.2706)
Instead of getting new professions, I would like Anet to provide competitive alternatives to each profession in each game mode.
Why implement something like a Ritualist, when you could augment the Necromancer with Ritualist-like skills and make the Necromancer competitive in other areas (specifically PvE, where it is lackluster compared to other professions).
Fix the professions that we have already, then worry about adding new professions when the core eight get dull. If Anet plays their cards right though, the core eight professions won’t get dull.
martial artist hand 2 hand bo staff etc, focus on reactive gameplay, advantageous skill sequence usage(combo-ish) movement, but in an aggressive way.
for the people who say they need to balance current, never gonna happen.
those who say they have a diverse playstyle set, ehhh, theif would probably be the closest, but it doesnt really focus on skill sequences, more of using one attack repeatedly, it also is primarily an escape type class, its class mechanics revolve around stealth.
anyhow, i think there are probably some other ideas out there, but i definately want new classes, races, etc. Game needs some new

Not everyone likes quaggans. I hate them and would never play one. The more anet pushes them the more i hate them.
Edit: I would support the addition of any race profession or option that lets me kill them.
(edited by Talyn.3295)
New professions are unlikely, but many of us still hope they eventually add a third Soldier-class profession.

Pretty much that. I’d love to have a third Soldier option, simply because I am OCD-ish about such things (though as others said I have no clue what niche it would fill) but it is not really necessary.
I’d also like to see the tengu as a playable option in the future, even though the 40 race/profession combinations we currently have will keep me busy for a while longer. I currently only have 17 of my 40 written characters.
New races: don’t care. They don’t have anything interesting to bring story-wise anyway.
New profession: a 3rd heavy to make it 3-3-3.
But most of all, I’d like more weapon options opened to all professions.
Instead of new races better remove Charr and suddenly we get twice as much or more new armor sets i bet
I disagree I feel the current classes/races really cover the spectrum.
What I would like to see is more build diversity.
Hehe … chuckling at people thinking that 8 classes will ever be completely balanced
Going off of past interviews I’ve read and seen, new races will be coming at some point. I believe Colin said something along the lines of “we’re just not sure which race to add first.” Of course I am paraphrasing but that does imply they have plans of adding multiple new races.
As far as new professions, from what I gather that’s towards the bottom of the to-do list. Again, going off of past interviews, I believe their priority is to add new traits, utility skills, and weapons to the existing professions.
The only new Races that GW2 needs, are Tengus and redesigned Largos.
All the rest of the junk in Tyria like Kodans should get completely erased.
Most other races that are inferior, will never become playable, when will people finally get it.
Anet has chosen out some specific races to play only a role in the personal story of our characters, and that are:
- Quaggans
- Skritt
- Grawls
- Ogres
These will never ever become playable races, these races are inferior, either too stupid, too weak, too unorganized, have no own big city, have no useful technologies to provide for the battles against the elder dragons and with technologies I mean something useful, like the asura technologies, or the charr weapons or just aren’t customizable, as they all look the same, like Kodans look all the same, unless they wear different armor
Enemy races like the Centaur also will never become playable, they are just plain simply impossible to make playable. Centaurs can#t swim, nor dive, their body model would require for anet too much work in relationship to their armors.
Work, that is much better used into adding playable races, that are more humanoid and fit to the style of the other playable races, which are also all humanoid more or less, at least they can all run on 2 legs …
In regard of classes, GW2 needs just only a 9th class, as a 3rd soldier. After that point, GW2 needs no new classes, but instead GW2 needs sub classes for the 9 classes to provide more character progression together with alot more options to individualize our characters and make them more unique.
We need:

That’s what I’m seeing. There are way too many restrictions on the traits as it is to even think that these characters are anywhere near diverse to begin with. Until they change that it will be restrictive in new classes that come along.
They need to change alot in the way traits work, they need to free up the XIII traits for example to be placeable in any line, doesn’t matter which one they are new traits and were placed in the game because of the lack of diversity in builds restricting them like restricting the older traits isn’t going to improve diversity of builds.
They need to add many many more XIII traits.
They need to add more weapons and weapon skills to all classes if they want to improve combat.
And they need to make even out the access all classes have to certain things like Boons for example. Stability should NEVER be an elite skill on any class doesn’t matter which one. It and retaliation and confusion should be accessable to all classes, and they need to fix condition damage and even out how much damage each condition does. For example, it’s weird that they don’t think poison has the same damaging potential to life as fire does, guess they’ve never seen the necrosis that results from certain animal bites and stings in the land/sea of some of these countries, it literally rots you.
New professions sell expansions… just sayin!
and there has been NO Dev discussion about expansions (other than there are NO current plans about a year ago). As I said, could be a big secret they are holding onto.
Don’t think the game is ready for new Professions or Races.
In my opinion, it is ready for new weapons across all professions.
This is my guess as to where any kind of “new” features/skills will come from.

I believe that I said pretty much all of this. Some points however:
- Skritt have Skrittsburg and Ogres have some pretty darned big Kraals. Not that this makes them any more playable, of course.
- Both can be pretty intelligent, but the Skritt require large numbers for this to happen, so still not happening.
- You forgot Hylek.
We need:
- One new race
- One new profession (Heavy/Soldier)
- Additional weapons for existing professions (hammer for Engi and LB for Guard)
- Better weapon swapping system / equip more weapons at once.
- New elite skills for all professions
I would also like to see:
- New tactical heal skills (high cooldown risk/reward for slot #6)
- More tactical slot skills (high cooldown risk/reward for slots #7-9)
New race – not happening. Only Tengu and Largos are even remotely feasible. Tengu wont be for character modelling reasons (imagine the clipping – Anet cant just copy paste armours like they do with Charr. Imagine how bad most armours look on Charr and realise that on Tengu they would be worse than that!), and Largos… just no. Not very interesting, and they are secretive and solitary creatures. Making them playable would utterly break their mystique.
A new heavy profession would be nice. Light and medium classes both have professions that can summon familiars (Mesmer, Ranger), I’d go for a heavy ‘Sergeant’ or ‘Man-At-Arms’ class that summons adds like an Engineer summons kits or a Mesmer summons phantasms.
I think Mace is better for Engineer personally. Fixer-Upper, end of!
(edited by GuzziHero.2467)
The Engineer will always be an “April Fools’ joke” in my eyes. They should have never introduced it. They jumped the Pandaria-shark with that one.

Best class in the game.
But I sort of agree. Along with all the techno magic and skyship pirates, it feels anachronistic. In the real world, reliable firearms made plate armoured soldiers obsolete within 50 years.
I think engineers are fantastic! They work really well with the lore of GW2, and fit it perfectly in Tyria.
And Tengu is a must as far as introducing a new race is concerned.
New races are a waste of time and do not add anything to overall game. Its like adding a new skin, its cool for like 5minutes but it gets old fast.
New professions actually add spice and make the game somewhat interesting again. Party dynamics change, PvP changes, etc.
Personally, though, I think adding a new race would be a good opportunity to introduce a new profession along with it. I mean, the Tengu have been practically begging to become playable, and I for one welcome those lovable bird-brains!
I would love some more weapons options. An actual mowing scythe, brass knuckles, tessen fans, whips, chinese-style sword+chained defensive fans, bo staffs, halberds, boomerangs, portable EM railguns, wet towels, pets can equip spiked collars…i can’t come up with anything else. haha

The lovable bird brains who arrow-carted thousands of desperate refugees (and a few player characters) during the Escape From LA? :o
Oh I love them all right. Preferably in my 2 piece variety meal.

The charr blew up Ascalon… and we seem to be okay with them now, so what’s the difference??
Time. Time and necessity.
The Searing was many many years ago, and since then the Charr have banded together with humanity (and some other races of course) to fight a common enemy.
The Tengu continue to be at best cagey and at worst downright hostile to the main 5 races. And, y’know, murdering thousands of innocent refugees fleeing a genocidal maniac doesn’t make for good PR.
They should re-build the spinny-whirry-machine-o’-death part from the Breachmaker, add a huge flamethrower and use it as a Tengu rotisserie!
