DO I COMPLETE THE JADE KRAKEN TIMED MOTE?! been trying for hours with dozens of people, never even come close. I was told we have the “luxury” of missing a FEW beams?! This isn’t supposed to be the challenging content, it’s meant to be another simple piece of a collection!! Most people I know have never comepleted this fractal without missing a lot more than a “few” beams. How do you people do this?! why?!!

What gave you the idea that something called a “challenge” was supposed to be “simple”

It took our group a few tries, but basically, it’s tuned so that you can miss ~2 beams total.

Completing it is as easy as making sure eveyrone on your team:

  • Doesn’t die.
  • Kills enough stuff to have crystals avaliable
  • Plays the encounter properly, by picking up crystals when they’re about to get beamed.

It’s supposed to be challenging content. That’s why it’s called a “challenge.” The challenge here is really “Play this boss fight without screwing up what you’re supposed to be doing to complete it anyway.”

It’s super hard. Not many people can do it which is why the backpack holds so much value and prestige. You know if you see someone wearing one it was earned through countless hours of blood, sweat, and tears. I think DnT posted a guide on it awhile ago but I wouldn’t try it to be honest. I broke two fingers attempting their advice. Best leave it to the gaming gods.

ok… I don’t know if I can do this instead of making another topic, but I also wanted to ask the forums… why is every single skin for chest and pants light armor human male the most ugly crap in existence? and does anyone recommend something specific that looks good on a human male?

my main character which I’d absolutely hate to change my main after spending $120 making incinerator and having 900 hours on just because his shirt is ugly, in fact I may just quit the game if anet doesn’t add some good stuff soon, or heck, any new armor!

It’s actually not that hard. Key is to kill all tentacles and Jade Colossi to get to third phase as fast as possible. Of course try not to miss a beam. Once in third phase, kill tentacles as fast as you can.

This may sound elitist but don’t bring rangers. Pets r bad.

That’s progress. Hooray for progress!

False statement. The Jade Maw no longer fires his lasers at pets of any type. This includes minions, illusions, ranger pets etc. He ALWAYS targets players. Therefore, players with pet builds are in no way jeopardizing the achievement by “wasting” lasers.

Anyway, to the OP’s question, there are a few key points to keep in mind in order to get the achievement:

1. The timer starts when someone gets close to the final platform. Therefore, WAIT for everyone to catch up (kill the jellyfish on the penultimate platform if you have to) before starting the timer. If someone is late or falls, you’re just reducing your party’s DPS for no good reason.

2. You want to get to the final phase of Jade Maw as quickly as possible (because he shoots beams the fastest during that time). So as soon as people land on the last platform, make a beeline for the two tentacles and burn them down. Call targets on any subsequent tentacles and jade colossi and kill them as fast as you can. The faster your group can kill mobs to collect crystals, the better your chances will be. (This, alas, does turn the achievement into basically a DPS test, but it is what it is.)

3. ALWAYS make sure you are within range of a crystal. As someone above mentions, you can only miss about 2 laser shots before the achievement fails due to lack of time. If you are going far to kill a tentacle, bring a crystal with you! A stunbreak to make sure you don’t get KD’d at inopportune times will help, but is not strictly necessary if you play a ranged character.
