Its no secret, MMo attract hackers and players to steal account information in the hopes they can gain access to your account. Lately, I’ve seen alot of posts about this and going to make a short and sweet post in the hopes you can protect yourself and your account.

It is actually quite simple to protect yourself against most threats with several simple steps.

1) Do not use 3rd party websites that promise hacks/bots etc ~ most of the time, they will infect your computer with malware such as keyloggers which track your keystrokes to discover your password

2) Use a strong, repeat strong password. Don’t use passwords related to your username, names or your birthdate. Use a random alpha-numeric password with a mixture of upper and lowercase characters – for example G1ner2cP0sSwO3d. Sure it might be slightly inconvenient but it is better to be safe, than sorry.

3) Use a reputable anti-malware program like Malwarebytes and do occasional sweeps for keyloggers and anything that might be used to decrypt your account information.

4) And finally, never share your account information with others ~ If someone who claims to be a moderator for instance and asks for your account information, don’t give it to them – all online games companies and staff never ask for your password.

Remember to use different password for different accounts. If a game forum you visit gets exploited, they often try using the passwords obtained for your account in-game.

Do not purchase gold from 3rd party websites, they are in the business of hacking.

Never type your passwords into login screens. Copy it in from a different program.

A password made with at least 6 numbers takes a year to crack avoid dubious websites. Avoid dubious downloads. Use mobile/email authentication. Oh and use a UNIQUE password for every MMO don’t use a password that you used on another forum like some random gaming forum. If they crack the forum they have your password.

That is all you can do. I’ve yet to be hacked in 20+ years.

There are still programs that can scan your copy buffer.

As always, have good anti-virus/firewall to protect your computer from things trying to gain access to your computer directly. However, if someone’s hacking your account, chances are they more likely obtained access through some other method, like exploiting a website that you have an account with, etc.

Don’t be an idiot and use easy to guess passwords or use the same password on other sites. Don’t be an idiot in general and you won’t get hacked.
