Hello everybody!
Today I played a bit with the armory to see if I could create a good look for my fem-norn thief (I like her curvy body, but oh! how bad all those coats look on her..). In the end I found a good mix-n-match that looked really really awesome, wrote that down, and googled for infos about where to find the skins.
To my dismay, the crucial part of the look (the chest item) was from the “heritage set”, and I learned about what it means just today.

Long story short: if I buy GW1 today, and link it with my account, and play with it, would I still be able to get those 5 points needed for the heritage set? Do you think it would take a reasonable amount of time? What would be in your opinion the best way to obtain them?

Thanks

Yes you can get those points, and it would be really fast to get enough for the full heritage set.
Just make sure that you also buy the GW: Eye of the North, that expansion is what allow you to link with GW2.

Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald

Yes, getting enough points for heritage armour set is not that hard. If you’d want more points (for more goodies and for titles), that would be a bigger problem however.

In my opinion, buy a full game and play it to just get a set for skin armor when you will only use for the 10 levels until you wanted to switch to a better good looking armor is a waste.

my opinion, you can do wtv you want if you can afford the time and the money for a skin. I played Gw for like 7 years with all the expansions though.

We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that.

You’ll need to buy Prophecies (sometimes just called Guild Wars) or Factions or Nightfall, and Eye of the North.

The first 3 are stand-alone campaigns so you only need 1, EotN is an expansion so you need one of the others to play it and you have to have EotN to access the Hall of Monuments.

(These days you can quite often find them all bundled together pretty cheaply, so if you see that option go for it.)

Just linking your accounts gives you 3 points so then you only need 2. And 2 points are easy to get.

Probably the fastest is to use the first tapestry, which you get for reaching the Hall of Monuments, to unlock the Devotion monument and then add 1 white mini pet and 1 purple one, which you can buy from other players. (In GW1 item rarities go white, blue, purple, yellow, green. There are no blue minis so purples are the next cheapest.)

Alternatively unlock the Fellowship monument, create a ranger and add their first pet, then buy a new armor set for one of the heroes (the wiki has info on how to do this) so you can add them. Or, if you have all 3 campaigns, get MOX and add him, he doesn’t need upgraded armor.

FYI If you need to buy anything from other players don’t be intimidated by the prices. In GW1 the smallest possible unit of currency is 1 gold, which makes the prices look very expensive if you’re used to games with a copper, silver, gold system. For example most mini pets start at 1,000g (aka 1 platinum or simply 1k) but that’s actually the equivalent of 1000 copper (or 10 silver) in GW2 money.

To my dismay, the crucial part of the look (the chest item) was from the “heritage set”,

If the chest piece is your hold up (the good news) the Heritage Chest piece only requires 3 points which you will get just by linking your GW and GW2 accounts.

So just by purchasing GW and linking the accounts you will get access to the “Heritage Jerkin” that you are looking for.

Remember you do need GW: EotN to be able to claim your rewards though.

You can sometimes buy the Complete Collection for less than the cost of 1 gem store armor set.

But it also depends on how much you like the skin and are going to use it. The medium heritage coat is actually one of my favourite skins. I used it on my main most of the time she was levelling up and for about 4 months after she got to level 80 (almost a year in total). I finally swapped it for the Honour of the Waves coat, but I still consider going back to it from time to time.

Admittedly I got all the HoM rewards for free basically because I was already playing GW1 (I started properly shortly before EotN was announced) and I think it’s still worth playing the game for it’s own sake. But it’s still not a huge effort. If someone was going for 50 points I’d say they need to consider that it’s a big time investment, but just the Heritage skins is easy.

I know you get 3 points just for linking your accounts, but don’t you also have to have at least opened your Hall of Monuments in Guild Wars? Placed at least one Tapestry?

This means you must have a character at level 10 (Level 40 equivalent in GW2) or higher and have access to one of the major Cities in-game, so you can do the quest that takes you to Eye of the North.

Just wanted to point this out, in case it didn’t work by just buying the games, and linking the accounts, ….and then finding out there were no rewards.

Of course, depends on whether you will only use it for 10 levels.

My guardian (first character I made at release) is still using the HoM gloves and boots, I’m yet to find others that complement his look better than those, and my mesmer uses most of the heritage set for armor (he was the second character I made).

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

5 points for 3 good armor sets that never cost transmutation charges. AND you get to play GW1! Pretty good deal…

Not everyone likes the same things. OP said he particularly like that one piece so it’s not likely he is going to change it a few days later.

After almost 2 years my ranger is still wearing a full set of HoM armor. I haven’t seen anything I like better on him. I used the HoM armor on all the rest of my characters, all the way up to level 80 when I decided a final look for them.

I played gw1 and have the heritage armor. I like the look of medium and heavy armors. Glad I have it. But I would never buy/play gw1 just to get the HoM rewards in gw2. I would rather take that game time and invest it into gw2. That’s just me. If you want the heritage that bad go for it!

Played GW1 for 7 years and I would not recommend buying it just to get that armor (tho, the Medium Armor is very nice….I used it for months when the game first released).

Had to think about that a bit (been a while since i played GW1), but, the value of gold coin in GW1 is not the same as in GW2.

In GW1 u start with gold coin, and 1000 gold coins is 1 platinum coin.
And 1k became short for 1 platinum coin.
So, 1k gold coins in GW1 is not much really.

Absolutely. Just by playing the campaigns (which is worth it for the story) and possibly even Guild Wars: Beyond (which the story is definitely worth it) you should have anywhere between 5 and 10 HoM points.

That’s just for playing the game.

I agree with Grimm, though – don’t buy it solely for the armor skin. It’s worth playing, but not worth playing if all you want is a skin.

This means you must have a character at level 10 (Level 40 equivalent in GW2)

Eh…not even remotely the equivalent. I mean…the leveling from 1-20 in Guild Wars was trivial at best, especially later on. Factions and Nightfall can get someone to level 10-15 within a few hours if they just complete all of the quests along the way. Thousands of XP as a reward just made leveling a breeze.

Yeah, the value of gold is extremely different. Even then, though, the market in Guild Wars 1 just plain sucks now. It’s not really worth trying to build a fortune. I’ve been trying for months to purchase ministerial commendations at 1k/ea and everyone keeps refusing it, as if somehow the gamble is worth more than a set value.
