It isn’t. It might be considered a bad thing by a very few. But realistically, if an item hasn’t sold in 3 years, the people sitting on those skins aren’t in any need of the gold those items represent, and they can either cut their losses and accept that their gamble didn’t pay off (because it is and should be a gamble), or wait another 3 years for the cost of those items to return to the ludicrous pipe dream levels they believe they should be at. Since patience almost certainly comes easily to them.
Other people also getting nice things doesn’t actually affect you in any way besides ego.
Now, it would be different if it actually WAS like luxury cars, and they could be sold on again after use, but that analogy isn’t quite accurate to the reality of the situation.

His next question is if skins from 2012 would get released again. This will be the 4th Halloween and other than a raffle last year, 2012 skins haven’t returned as a BLTC item.
Now this is where the conversation wandered. The notion that nobody is buying those skins off the TP at the current price. But players are. Sure rereleasing them will drop the price a bit and more players can get one but they were skins tied to a one time event in the past and those skins can be used as a symbol that a player “was around then”. Even if they did buy one for 40g off the TP (which was about $40€ of gems then which is 600 gold today) back then.
But right now those skins are priced at what the market will bear.
Please, can a dev(Gaile, Regina, anyone) confirm we are having Halloween this year??? As one who has loved the Halloween season in Guild Wars, I was in the trailer scene when all the players were running in a long line following Gaile around(yes, I would be the semi-naked monk running around, tattoo’s only armor). I was enthralled with Halloween’s first year in Guild Wars 2 when Mad King ripped out of the statue and the ensuing battle in his own mad realm to send him back again.
I think it’s still a bit of an open question of is Mad King will happen this year or not because they probably would like to be able to say for sure one way or another. I REALLY hope it does, but having HoT launch so close makes me quite concerned for it >< Plus they have to create all the decorations for it this year since LA has been totally redone. It’s definitely one of the things I most want to see this year though.

yeah really glad some one else can see this problem happen as of late too. be nice if it got fixed .but know that will not happen . sigh
Can we discuss a different aspect of Halloween than a pointless page-long argument over skins? This argument could apply to ANYTHING ingame and contributes nothing to this discussion no matter who is right.
What I would prefer to discuss is LA itself at the moment. Several people have commented that they need new look and feel for Halloween to accomodate a changed Lion’s Arch. Its an amazing city now(and even before) and I think it would be fabulous to see a decked out new LA in Halloween style. I don’t want to see the old LA come back for Halloween, because that feels like a solidly missed opportunity to do something REALLY COOL with the current LA. It just screams potential and I hope its not wasted.
Second, it would be nice to have a new activity. Personally, I am a big fan of Thorn making another return to the mortal realm, this time under the cover of Mordremoth’s assault on Tyria giving him more room to try again perhaps. Also, I think something different with Edrick needs to happen this year. His yearly tomb raider event is feeling overdone. Maybe a battle against father and son together trying to break free of the Mad Realm? I get HoT is priority 1 and I don’t want to detract from its awesomeness, but Halloween should never get the short stick in Guild Wars.
I know HoT will be coming out right around Halloween time, but is anyone else hoping against hope that we’ll have new Halloween content this year? I was so disappointed last year. Still played the bejezus out of parts of it, but new content would be so wonderful.

i have to agree with you on this fully. i do not see a Halloween this year.i got to admit tho even if its the rehashed stuff at lest it,s something and better then noting at all.
I’m pretty certain that ArenaNet will include some Halloween content with the launch of “Heart of Thorns”. They have a very pretty Lion’s Arch to show off now!
I doubt there will be very much for Halloween this year. Due to the rebuilding of LA they would have to completely redo all the decorations and pathing and activities.
This is something they simply do not have the manpower f or with HoT coming out so soon and so much to do.
Enjoy the expansion, all the new content, stories, classes, etc. Next year we will probably see an improved Halloween.
I think they will have new lions arch decorations. Some parts might be recycled (e.g. the halloween mystic forge and the actual skins for pumpkins and latarns), but it has to be put into the new environment. Also the mad kings say event has to be redesigned as that place doesnt exist any more.
As for the rest, it is very unlikely there will be a new story. They had the same story for the last two years. They also had the same story in GW1 every year.
One of the main complaints bout living world season one was that it was all temporary and once in a lifetime. Changing the halloween story every year would bring that back.
I do hope that besides the new lions arch decorations, they will bring new things to it. Like the raffle last year was added (and hopefully makes a return as well).

I actually would love to see a rehash. I came in late in it so by the time I found my feet it was over. Plus it would allow me to think how far my menagerie has evolved since then.

Big worry of mine. I love the Halloween events (repetitive as they can get) and would be quite sad if they failed to make an appearance this year.
They might be aiming to connect them. For example, an event that is mostly in the ‘classic’ regions but to complete it fully you need to be able to go to VB.
It is very likely there will be halloween. It is a tradition they never skipped. It also doesn’t bite with GW2 HoT release. I also doubt the labyrinth will be empty. It is a great place for levelling and I bet a lot of people want to level their revenants.

Omg locking completion of Halloween behind a paywall would be a disastrous idea….
Anet wouldn’t do it because its a L80 area where everything has evolved to kill you. Player starting now or in October would have a too much of a disadvantage. Thats why most of such general world events happen in low level areas (i.e. Mordremoth minions attacking on 10th.)

So as everyone knows, Heart of Thorns is releasing October 23rd, which is super close to the time frame that Anet usually runs the Halloween event. I am curious to know how this will affect the Halloween event. Will they even release one this year or will they simply replace it with the launch of HoT? Anet has been super “busy” on HoT and has only released one event since January, the current Mordrem Invasion, which turned out to be a disaster, in the eyes of veteran players. Based on this info, Im questioning if Anet has even put an effort into Halloween this year. I for one will be super put off if the event is canceled, as I have spent over a thousand gold investing for this years Halloween. I know that others have too, and that this event is one of the most popular events in the game. If Anet has not made plans, I would suggest they bring back last years Halloween event with the addition of releasing the Ghastly Grinning Shield skin as a drop from the ToT bags. It is the most expensive item in the game, and highly coveted. Releasing it will make many people happy, and also lower the price of it a bit in the same way Anet has done for other Gem store skins that were becoming ridiculously pricey. That being said, I would like the communities opinion on this matter. Do you think HoT release will prevent this years Halloween event from happening? If you have any info suggesting it will definitely occur, please post it here. Thanks!
I know that this is bad timing, but I’m making supplications and pettitions for the return of the Halloween events from the last two years. Those events were so fun and rewarding. They helped me level some mid-range characters. They were as quick or as long as I had time for. They required a little bit of coordination and leadership. They were rewarding (items and experience). They were fun to play!
Please please please bring back your awesome Halloween events!
