Hello,

I have a small question, sorry if this isn’t the appropriate place.. But something begins to bother me as hell.
Except the “In Game report” which includes “sections” not very suitable for that, and the fact of blocking the concerned players, what can we do against people who harass others?

For several days in PvP match and the Heart of the Mists my girlfriend meets a group of players who like to troll everyone. The problem is that when they see her, they always harass her, most of the time in their own language and have fun insulting her and others players. Verbally or “physically” with their toons.
We have screenshots showing them harassing her.

If we take away the fact that they annoy her a lot, they still say a lot of insults in match.
Anyway …. That kind of people are seriously nasty and disrespectful ! -_-’

Sorry for my mistakes, english isn’t my first language.

You can report them in game but I think you already did report them if I am reading correctly.

Otherwise you just right click the character name and add them to block list. Eventually they should stop if you don’t respond to their comments. And since they are blocked you won’t see their comments so you won’t be responding.

There’s really nothing else that can be done. If they make new accounts or get friends to join in on it then block them as well. If it would somehow continue after trying all that then you may just want to play offline for awhile.

If these people are seriously bothering you, you can send a ticket to CS. I don’t think sending a ticket to CS will help in most cases, but if you feel that the violation isn’t covered by the options or if you feel you can supply more evidence, it might be worthwhile.

To send a ticket, click “Support” at the top of the page, and then click “Submit a Request” in the top right corner. Click “In-game issue”. Fill out the boxes as best you can- you could also possibly attach the screenshots you took if you upload them to a site like imgur.

They probably won’t get back to you personally- just hope you don’t see these trolls again. And like all the other people have suggested, block them.

I have to ask. How do you “physically harass” someone, outside of PvP and being in the same match and being on opposite sides? About all I can think of is throwing down skills with visible effects and jumping up and down, which are easily ignored by most people.

Be careful what you ask for

They might be finding her by having her on a block list or friend list. It’s possible to figure out what pvp server she is on by doing this. It can take some one because all they will know is that she is currently on, for example, sky hammer. And there’s currently 8 sky hammer maps going. Eventually they would figure out which server she is on

To avoid this if she would set her status to offline they wouldn’t be able to find her. Of course she can’t get whispers then. But yeah. If they find her I would just change servers and put stays to offline.

How do you physically harass someone in a video game?

All you can do is report the players and block them. If they are violating a rule I would hope they are banned. If they are not breaking any rules or ANET doesn’t consider it harassment then seems like you just have to move on with your life.

If they are breaking rules and they aren’t banned it seems like you just have to move on with your life.

Yeah sorry as i explained before english isn’t my first language so that’s why i put “physically” like that, i couldn’t find a better word.
I wanted to say, with toons. When your character is somewhere and that another just always jump on you or hit you, things like that.
I agree, it can be…. Well, everyone can say it doesn’t matter. But believe me, it’s just really annoying to be somewhere and POOCH as soon as they see you it happens.

And for meeting them in arena, that’s just eeeeeh… Well, no luck.

I was wondering about this myself. At first I assumed perhaps they were referring to “tea-bagging” considering this is all PvP related stuff… but I really don’t think there is anything you can really do in GW2 that distinctly suggests something sexual in nature.

Personally I can’t see how jumping/spamming skills/following can be annoying, unless it was absolutely non-stop-relentless.

I don’t think what this “physical abuse” the OP is referring to is punishable on its own. It could be punishable if the line is crossed for it to be considered stalking, but that would have to be recorded and proven in its own right.

OP: If your wife is being constantly harassed and followed by the people (unavoidably so) then you should contact Arena Net regarding this. If you almost always encounter this person (or particular group of people) and its affecting your ability to play PvP, then they are indeed breaking the rules:

“While playing Guild Wars 2, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to play and enjoy the Game. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, embarrass or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other players. This includes posting insulting, offensive, or abusive comments about players, repeatedly sending unwanted messages, reporting players maliciously, attacking a player based on race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc. Hate speech is not tolerated.”

@Neural: I’ve also seen plenty of people come to the forum whining that they have been suspended for “inappropriate language” and apparently didn’t do anything wrong. I’ve also seen people comment on these thread saying that they saw the perpetrator red-handed in map chat spewing profanities and hate speech. A-net absolutely do care about people being verbally abusive. Just because you see it in-game doesn’t mean A-net turn a blind eye.

Yes, and if you read what I said, my comment was that they don’t do anything unless it affects their bottom line. Like the video they had of what’s his name deleting a hackers toons. Anet’s hand was forced in that case because there was embarrassing footage on youtube showing just how out of hand things were getting.
Yeah, they ban people, but only when it reaches “red alert” level.

There’s a reason that reporting is looked at as a joke by so many users that have posted about it. Anet won’t even discuss their actions on a high level.

Coming out with a report and some charts saying “we banned x number of users for x reasons over the past year” or something similar would go a LONG way to rebuilding trust among the community.

If, after /reporting and /blocking, the player still chases you around the map, then take screenshots and submit a ticket about it.

ANet takes harassment very seriously, as seen in their replies to various posts. However (and of course), they need evidence. So document as many examples as you can and include them in your ticket. If they are able to verify the allegations, they will take action, with a severity depending on the specific behavior, the record of that player, and whether you responded in kind.

Anet can, and in fact, will, do such a think Marko. It’s all about the severity. There’s a world of a difference between someone saying “you look like a ?” and “i’m going to come to your house and ??? you.” Both are punishable, but the one can lead to immediate termination on review of the report.

Since it’s relavent. Blocking someone should block them. The person you block can still add you to their friend list or block you back and they can see where you are still on the interface whether you’re invis or not. Blocking should mean blocking, they should not even be able to friend you or you to be able to see their emotes (/me… gets out of hand, especially if it’s targetted to cause distress, troll or bully someone) this is the only issue I have with the ‘block and move on’ sometimes it’s just not enough.

I have to disagree with you here. This is not easily ignored and, for me at least, it had the effect of making me want to leave the game. I was in Silverwastes when this happened to me, and it was extreme. I went to a different fort, played in a different area, stopped playing in forts at all and just escorted bulls, and it didn’t matter. Whatever I did, this player was bouncing up and down on my character. The thing is, we had no verbal interaction at all. I hadn’t said something to anger them, hadn’t been speaking in map or local at all, but for an unknown reason they decided to make my play session horrible.

Since the play style in this particular complaint is PvP then the victim of this harassment isn’t able to choose to play in another area. It’s Heart of the Mists or nothing. Customer service needs to take action against the players that are making this person’s gaming session miserable.

I can see how it might be annoying or distressing to be targeted. But if I was being sufficiently annoyed by another player that I could not ignore them then I would simply waypoint and lose them. If you waypointed, how did they find you again?

Truthfully though, if someone started doing that out of the blue I would assume they had some sort of mental issues and were to be pitied for it rather than them being annoying.

Yes, and if you read what I said, my comment was that they don’t do anything unless it affects their bottom line.

I did read, and it’s still not true. I know of one player who was banned for 3 days for an inappropriate name 24 hours after they purchased gems, albeit it was a while back. That person thought they were invincible because they ‘invest’ in the game, so it was a bit of a shock to them. They have since learned their lesson of course.

But saying that ArenaNet does nothing about reports doesn’t help anyone. Firstly it discourages people from making reports in the first place, and secondly, it implies to players who do want to go around acting like jerks that it’s ok for them to do so.

That said, Guild Wars 2 is probably the best community in the MMO universe, and it’s seldom that a report is actually needed anyway, which may be why some players think nothing gets done!

LOL, just read ‘harassment’ by bouncing around on you, haha, made my day. Dude, seriously?

Honestly, it’s a game, get a thick skin man. Unfortunately, it’s quite common. Usually, that’s some under 20 year olds with a kittenload of testosterone, short temper and they don’t understand what they do. Just tell them to kitten off and put them on ignore list.

People these days… get depressed when their dog has diarrhea. Guys, the world is tough, you get harassed, people mob you, just hit back. Eventually, you will come back stronger.

Guys, the world is tough, you get harassed, people mob you, just hit back. Eventually, you will come back stronger.

That’s terrible advice. Somebody breaking the rules doesn’t give you permission to break the rules too.

Interacting with an abuser is almost always going to make things worse. Trolls are waiting for somebody to bite- showing any sort of upset or aggression just means you’re feeding them and giving them the attention that they’re looking for.

Moreover, it gives other people an opportunity to get you in trouble, too. I know that A-net will take provocation into consideration when looking into infractions, but you could still find yourself in hot water.

If you believe somebody is breaking the rules, block and report them.

As with what has already said, jumping up and down in itself isn’t against the rules, but stalking/continually harassing (to the point where a player is going out of their way to do so) is against the rules.

And yes, the world is tough. Perhaps people jump onto GW2 to have a break from the real world and expect people to play by the rules and not act like a kitten. This is A-net’s house, play by their rules or expect to be kicked out.

If you’ve blocked them from being able to speak to you, and your only issue now is with them jumping on you, then it sounds like it’s time to move on. I mean, HoTM is just a lobby to wait in while you queue for a match. Queue for a match and go do TP or banking or something. If you simply don’t like seeing people jumping up and down, then minimize your game until you hear the sound that your match is ready.

All you can do is report the players and block them. If they are violating a rule I would hope they are banned. If they are not breaking any rules or ANET doesn’t consider it harassment then seems like you just have to move on with your life.

If they are breaking rules and they aren’t banned it seems like you just have to move on with your life.

They probably do “sexual” things.

I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but it is possible to make someone feel they are being sexually harassed; especially if they are whispered with inappropriate stuff, as well.

It is not OK that they are trying to upset people in this way (especially females and/or kids) and they need to be made aware of that, in no uncertain terms.

I don’t see a red tag on your name.

I’ve got one!!

You should block the account and then make no further attempt to interact with them directly or through a 3rd party (i.e. having a friend send an in-game mail).

If they continue to harass you submit a support ticket with as much detail as you can provide.

But this is no solution if a person put you on friend or blocklist and always knows when and where you are online. Why I’m not being displayed for a blocked person as always offline? The blocked person could not see my online status and also not the place where I am. Please change this

I agree that this is in need of a fix and we’ve asked for one. In the meantime; let me hunt ’em down for you. >=)

I have to say THIS is why I like GW2 (and Anet) so much. Not only are they vocal in hunting down scum but they seem to truly enjoy their job and understand their EULA/ToS and want to enforce it.

By comparison, I played another game where people would have blatantly offensive names. I would report them and put them on my friend list (out of curiosity). One went four years with a particularly offensive name without repercussion. The response from the GM I received after repeatedly reporting this player was, “You can’t expect us to get everyone, can you? Now stop bothering us or I’ll permanently ban you for harassing company staff.”

I am a Juicebox Hero. I poke straws in Risen Eyes.

No, you can’t expect them to “get everyone”, but you should be able to expect them to get the ones reported to them and acknowledged by them.

Clearly, the GM in question didn’t agree with his company’s rules in this case, otherwise why on earth didn’t he just deal with the issue, instead of wasting his time arguing with you?

Can I ask which game this was, BTW?

World of Warcraft. They’ve really developed (at least from a player’s eyes) an attitude of ‘we don’t care’. But I was as surprised by the reply as I was the attitude. Who’d ever think that reporting a player in violation of the EULA/ToS could get a person banned.
