Hard Rez Skills Not Being Used?
Three weaknesses with these skills
- Large Cooldown
- Opprotunity cost (you are giving up a skill to place that on your bar)
- Will not usually remedy the situation (If people are dying due to lack of skill, that quick rez will only prevent the inevitable)
The ones I see used the most ofter are Battle Standard and Illusion of Life

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
mine on the necro fails 80% of the time so really useless

Necro is a lifestyle choice… Don’t be afraid of the (DARK)
Another good reason that most don’t use them, is that they think it fails most of the time. In a way, it does. It doesn’t rez someone from dead, only downed. So technically, it’s not a rez, it’s more of a heal a downed player.
And as Vorch pointed out, giving up a useful skill for one of these is usually not a great choice.
I use search and rescue in some situations. If someone has actually died rather than simply fighting to survive it isn’t usually practical to stand over them for the save. Although it is pretty unreliable, it’s quite handy as a fire and forget effort to at least get them started on getting back up. It’s also handy for getting people I can’t otherwise reach due to terrain.
Not great, and not really a serious build, but not useless.
The best place to use these are in WvW, you can res Keep Lords to stop invaders from capping areas.
They only work with downed players. I use often with my necro, but thiefs and elem love leave the aoe of my skill lol.
I have to ask the same thing about stability, alot of people I meet dont care about stability. I can appreciate that a lot of skills that give the buff have about 40+ second recharge but I never understood why folks forsake it completely.
Actually Engineer has 2 hard rez abilites…
The Elixir gun heal, and Elixir R…
I am amazed I rarely see it used… then again alot of people complained about combos…
Engineer can tack on alot of combos… but then again, I don’t think people know HOW to play their characters sometimes.
Ok, so here is a link to the wiki of the skills that revive characters directly: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revive#Skills_that_revive_allies
Does anyone ever really use these? I have watched carefully and tried to use my own (Illusion of Life = Mesmer here), and I rarely see any of these skills being used.
But I’m just one person. Do any of you use these skills regularly, or see someone else use them?
Noticed right away that there are exactly 0 traits for enhanced rez for engineers but we’re supposed to believe that we are only made for CC, support. (because DPS is out of the question in pve) Also, there’s only 1 ability to help downed players for engis, no rez. So, we’ve got a whole lota nothing happening here. Can we get better healing, more direct heals fewer regens, better traits on the engi for support and dps please? Can we have a complete class at long last please?
Yeah the cooldowns on some of these are horrendous, the engi that only works on downed players not dead ones takes an enormous amount of time all by itself.
I remember my banner used to rez defeated allies. Had to use it for Hodgins once lol. I don’t often carry that utility skill anymore for the above mentioned reasons in the first reply.
I use elixir R res if a party is having trouble, but yes the cooldowns are very long, thankfully elixir R has a short cooldown utility (stun break and 100% endurance, very very useful for living longer than anyone else :P)
The other resses should at least be signets like in GW1 so you can attach a passive effect. The resses that get used all have extra effects, like the banner for example.
What’s this about super elixir ressing??
I never used Signet of Mercy in 6 months of playing Guardian. Then again, it’s probably the worst ress-related skill in game.

I seill use my war banner all the time
good for the harder dungeons, but than i play with a good team
I use it sometimes on my ranger but never my guardian it can only res downed players.
All reses only work on downed don’t they?
And here I was trying the rez guardian skill on dead people wondering why it never worked.
At least Anet won’t try to nerf the skills.
I keep Glyph of Renewal on my cast bar for WvW. It’s got a 4.5 second cast time, its interrupted by dodge, and limited range. If I try to use it in PvE, usually the target is dead first, or rezzed the normal way first, or I have to dodge, or move away.
Nice way to work on the Healer daily though.
Ive used signet of undeath several times on my necro, immensly useful. You dont always have time to run over to someone and res them, especially if you take extra damage for standing still (like the flame shaman in fractals).
Colin Johansen hits you for 239407889 damage
Game over
War Banner is probably the most used because it gives you a great effect even after it’s down(Might, Fury and Swiftness in banner form for people around it).
I almost never see the others.
Darxio – Thief Commander
They’re slow as all hell.
I use the ranger spirit all the time. They are great in open world PvE when you want to res a bunch of NPCs (it can be done multiple times before the spirit dies and it provides a passive heal which is enough to revive a corner of a camp in Orr and help turn the tide of the battle all on your own). I occasionally use the spirit in dungeons, the reality is that in a lot of situations, entangle is useless and Rampage as One is incredibly underwhelming as a DPS elite, the ability to safely bring back allies and possibly give them some much needed heals, that’s very useful.
I would use Ele’s res glyph more often if it came out faster. I have to compete with a Warrior’s banner, which is by far the best res skill out there, and the fact that it only works on Downed, meaning by the time the glyph finishes casting, in most cases my ally has already been finished off or I could have res’d them manually.
I’m totally okay with the long cooldown. It makes sense. The long casting time makes it worthless in the few scenarios it actually makes a difference in. Literally the only time Glyph wasn’t worthless was when I used Air Attunement Glyph to res Magg out of lava.
I only use them to res people that are downed by traps in dungeons. When you’re navigating traps you’re usually out of combat, allowing me to switch out one of my skills for a res when I see someone die. Otherwise I just never have it in one of my slots.
But I didn’t shoot the thackeray
