Hard-to-get gear, update to ascended stats?
Good point here. This is, however, just one of the bizarre effects of managing vertical progression over time. But, good luck with that.
Because this is pretty much a “dress up game” when it comes to end-game content, stats don’t really matter, only the skin of all those weapons matter.

And where have you been since lost shores? Just check out a laurels vendor. What are they selling? Right, more powerful gear. You can now advance your crafting. Why? Again, more powerful gear. This game is not a “dress up game”. It’s simply about grinding for ever more powerful gear.
I hate threads like this.
It’s actually very easy to understand.
You are paying out the kitten for the skin.
For the pleasure of catching people’s eye.
The ‘look’ is subject to opinion. What you consider pretty and overpriced may be hideous to someone who likes the look of an item worth 2 gold.
You do not need the skin.
Why should your idea of good looking skins be of higher stats over someone else’s?
By that logic some could argue that legendaries be cheaper than ascended weapons because they’re the same stat but don’t look as good.
man, it’s too bad we don’t have any way to combine the stats of one item with the appearance of another

The game is not about “grinding for ever more powerful gear”, there is a reason why the power gain from exotic → ascended is so pathetically low, the game was built around exotics and that did not and will not change even after having Ascended out.
They should not be simply given upgraded stats. Ascended gear costs a lot because of the stat boost. Those items cost a lot because of looks and that’s it. You get what you paid for.
Also, where will it stop? If they release another new tier, would these continue to be upgraded? What about legendaries being the only permanent BiS weapons, are they going to throw that in the trash as well?
People who made these weapons should not have had any expectation of it getting a free stat boost as new tiers are introduced, since it was never guaranteed. Their price is for looks, end of story. Transmutation Crystals also exist for a reason.

Do these forged items ever drop from a loot? Or are they only obtainable from mystic forge?

power gain is so pathetically low just because it’s just the beginning.
it’s just the first step…
The idea of having extremely difficult to attain skins with similar stats to what you already have is the absolute essence of the Guild Wars franchise. This isn’t WoW, where you are playing to get arbitrarily bigger numbers on your gear so your damage can do some arbitrarily larger crit when you hit an enemy.
So it’s not a shame that it’s like that- it’s a wonderful part of what this series is.
Errrr what? I think you guys are misreading what I’ve said in the OP…
I’m asking for the existing exotic items to be EQUAL stats to ascended items, NOT BETTER. You know, update to ascended, as the title says…
I’m not asking for more powercreep…

Wrong. They didn’t add Ascended gear so much as they added vertical progression. Chris W said in the AMA that VP would be in the game going forward. What that means is that power is related positively with time. As time progresses the power level of the game will increase. Under vertical progression, because it increases the power level of the game, the only thing that matters—and it is non-optional by definition—is grinding out the more powerful gear.

Yes, this is true. Vertical progression can be described by an integer series: 1,2,3,4…,n where each number represents an increase in the power level of the game. It really makes no difference whatsoever if the difference between 1 and 2 is material. Vertical progression does not progress by stopping. Eventually it will be material and that’s why it’s non-optional for you to follow the power curve. The usual term used for following the curve is “grinding” out the ever more powerful gear.

That would be a great item to put in the gem store. MAybe they should even make it obtainable through map completion or bl chests.

It is kinda off topic, this discussion about powercreep, vertical progression and what not.
I think… or hope… that with ascended gear that was it, nothing stronger than that will come, and so far ascended is pretty much optional, as long as you don’t play fractals.
I am perfectly fine with them adding more ascended items, it is the higher tier now afterall. But I would rather not see them add ever stronger gear, and I sorta think they wont… or hope.
On topic. I can see where OP is going with his/hers idea, but well… They are what they are and wont change. As some more comedy forum goers hinted at, there is transmutation stones and crystals that makes it possible to have any look with any stat.
OP those skins are hard to craft, they are not as hard as a Legendary but they are a lot more rare.
Imo they also look better mostly but that is just my personal preference.
I have an Eye of Rodgort and am in the process of crafting a Vision of the Mists.
I have never expected those weapons to have anything other than exotic stats.
Really they don’t need it, people who love them will always craft them for their own sake
(edited by Morrigan.2809)
They don’t come best-in-stats because exotic was supposed to be best-in-stats and Ascended gear was only later grafted into the game without much thought or effort.
