hi,
I really miss the hardmode in GW2. So heres a concept how u can implement the hardmode in GW2:
We all know that A-Net can scale our HP/Armor/Crit chance etc. through the sidekick system. My idea is based on that system.
How to get the hardcore mode?
I think it would be cool to push the “endgame” a bit more, for people who dont have the star, when you have 100% world completion.
Until then i think this hardmode option should be blocked. At least you should get LvL 80 to use hardmode.

Attributes in hardcore mode:
So the Hardmode is like a “buff” you get from food in GW2 its simple as that. But its not really a buff its more like a debuff. It debuffs all your
Attributes (e.g. -50%) only Magic Find gets a big bonus. Dont know if magic find is rewarding right now, but you could push the value to like +400%
based on your non-hardcore magic find value.

Play together:
A-Net wants us to play together. This whole system works if you want to play together. For example you play a LvL 80 char and you help a friend
leveling up in low LvL areas. You can click now on the hardmode button and play in hardmode and your friend is still in normal mode. Its harder for
you to compete with the same enemies as your friend does but your loot is much better and rewarding.
Iam not sure but i think you get the aggro of the enemies more often if you are weaker. E.g. LvL 60 char in a LvL 80 area. This is not a really a
problem in my opinion.
Cooldown:
There needs to be a cooldown on the hardcore mode button. Like weapon swap. You cant swap the mode in fights to prevent people abusing this system.
60-120sec could work, so you dont switch the mode after every enemy.
Downstate:
There are 2 options i have for this feature.
1. There wont be a downstate in hardmode.
2. If your in downstate skill 3/4 are blocked you cant revive yourself. But people around you can help you to get up again.
Downstate with blocked skills

I prefer the first.
Scale:
The scale is important. With this system we could push Orr and Southsun Cove into elite areas, when in hardmode. They could be really really hard.
That would also push low lvl areas a bit more. People would play them more often because they are easier and not that difficult like Orr. But this
would only work if the LvL 80 areas gets really difficult.
Balance:
A-Net just needs to find the ideal value (percentage debuff value) for debuffing when in hardmode. The rest does the sidekick system because the whole
attributes gets buffed or debuffed with that system.
Bonus – Rewards:
GW2 is all about skins in endgame. Why not get some exclusive skins when you are in hardmode. Armor, Weapons, minipets,…
Pros:
- “Some” endgame
- Harder content
- More rewarding to help new player in low level areas
- easy implementation
- easy balance, through the sidekick system A-Net already have
- (Supporter-Builds gets more important)
- you can still play together, even when your friend dont wants to play in hardmode
- cant be abused (cooldown prevents you from doing this)
- food buffs gets even more important
Cons:
- No special abilities in hardmode from enemies
- grindy content
What do you think about this concept?
