Has personality been completely dumped?
It is still in the game, however it operates behind the scenes. You can’t see what it’s doing easily.
… a bit pointless to say the least Anet!
The same could have been said for the personality system in the first place.
Can’t be scrapped if it was never introduced in the first place. It’s true that we could cultivate a personality type by choosing responses and at creation, but it never had any real effect on how we interacted with npcs or behaved in game.
If they hadn’t rushed release, it may have been fully fleshed out, but I doubt it will ever get there now. They don’t seem to put much emphasis on the RP part of their MMORPG anymore.

New dialogue options appeared on certain npcs depending on your personality, however none of them were designed to restrict gameplay. They had their use, but they weren’t a big gameplay mechanic.

An MMO is a constantly evolving game, new things are introduced over time and old or unpopular things are phased out or abandoned altogether.
The personality system has effectively been abandoned, and probably was never fully activated in the first place. Plans change throughout development, it was probably dropped sometime before or during beta testing and the bits that were already in the game were left there because they don’t have any real effect on gameplay and removing them would be expensive and risk creating bugs.
As far as I know, it has been ditched yes. Tbh I never even noticed it had till someone said it was removed from the character screen.
ArenaNet: Looks > Personality
It hasn’t been dumped. It just doesn’t do anything.
There’s a personal story step where characters favoring ferocity get the option to kill a particular enemy rather than haul him off to jail. That’s the only notable difference I know of.

my character was diplomatic, i would have roughed them up then took them to jail :0

gw2 has more in common with farmville than it does traditional mmorpg

I’m still getting options based on my character’s personality, so it must be there somewhere.

Yes, its somewhere…. but it has very little meaning/impact.

Then play SWTOR? Oh wait, you’ll kitten about that game all the same too.

We can play both darling.

Easy now.
Guild Wars 2 advertises as an MMORPG and should be held up to that level. It is not wrong for people to feel cheated by the lack of RP.
Sadly I too was excited about this feature. I was also very confused when it was removed from the character stats screen.
I doubt they’ll do anything with it now.

No, I agree. I expected something more, though not to the ‘single player aspect’ of SWTOR (I did love that part of the game, though not the ‘wow in space’ aspect otherwise) I hope as they go forward in GW, our characters will come back into the story more forcefully. (as an aside, should Trahearne decide to go Dark Side, I’m fine with that… I thought he was lying about his undead never having been alive, so it would work for me.) I’d like to have more meaningful character choices, definitely. You get 3 standard types which should be fairly easy to do (the forceful/charming/diplomatic types that you see in single player games)
I’d hate to lose my character & story choice and just be watching the living story go by with their characters, that I’m to help and/or defeat.

Agreed. I saw the system at launch and got extremely excited for an npc interaction system similar to how Bioware handles their games. It got quickly dashed when it became apparent that it didn’t really do much to affect the story and the personality point could be effortlessly spammed on certain NPC’s.
All I want is a toon that can select the Renegade option and tell Taimi to “Shut the kitten up about Scarlet already!”
Why must you crush my dreams Anet?
