Firstly, let’s be honest here; Guild Wars 2 didn’t have kitten for the end-game upon release and for the first 1 to maybe 2 months or so. Seeing as I didn’t want to level in a game to where it’s all for nothing in the end, I decided to just go back to WoW. I also really didn’t enjoy the PvP that the game had to offer. It felt very repetitive and easy since you didn’t have to earn ANY of your gear. And the point of an MMO is to get epic loot and pwn some noobs right? (Come on, you used to talk like that back in 2003-2004, don’t lie x3) Well it just felt very…meh. Giving players gear just reduces the amount of gameplay, plus you don’t have to hit 80 to PvP, reducing even more gameplay since you don’t have to level if you don’t want to (Which can have its pros and cons).

But I digress. The game wasn’t too amazing other than the fun leveling, leaving out anything spectacular for the end-game. So as I said before, I left mainly just because the game felt unfinished in some aspects. You guys may have differing opinions, but I’m trying to state the facts (I’m not trying to be an kitten #8212;can we say kitten #8230;? Eh…screw it) without being rude about it.

With that being said, I will move on to the main point of this thread: Has the game improved over-all? (PvP end-game, PvE end-game, etc etc.) I’m more of a PvPer and still am currently on World of Warcraft (2K swag). So has GW2’s PvP gotten any better? I see some fanboys saying its more developed than WoW’s, but let’s be honest…GW2 didn’t have much to offer PvP wise when it came out. But has any of that changed? What about PvE? Are the raids/dungeons or whatever more challenging?

I’m honestly getting really tired with WoW. I want to join a game where there’s just as good PvP if not better, same thing goes for PvE.

Please be honest with everything. I’d appreciate leaving out the biased opinions that just make GW2 have an aspect that makes it better than something WoW has. Give me facts, I’d really appreciate all of the responses and honesty.

Thanks in advance everyone.

Well, that’s a tall order since there have been content additions every month…..
Off the top of my head they added:

Guild Missions
Fractals (dungeon which scales in difficulty to infinity)
A new zone
Living Story
Leaderboards
WvW ranks
Dungeon revamps
More jumping puzzles
Ascended gear
A couple PvP maps including CTF
Skritt burglar events
Upgraded loot from world drops & meta events
Flexible daily & monthly achievements
Tons of polish to existing content including dungeons
Tons of balancing to professions

To sum up, as far as endgame there is content that:
1) Requires a guild
2) Provides gear progression
3) Escalates in difficulty
4) Offer premium rewards

There are no raids however and it’s not likely there will be.

You can take a look at the patch notes to see what I missed or more detail on what changed.

To fit your needs, yes, GuildWars 2 has grind now. Also Fractals is a dungeon that gets harder every time you run it.

I assume, if you’re asking for “endgame,” what you really want is an endgame treadmill. That would be Fractals (and perhaps only Fractals.)

Fractals is a set of mini-dungeons that have an associated difficulty. You start off at level 1 and advance whenever you complete a set at or above your personal difficulty level. As the levels advance, there are new mechanisms that make the fights more difficult.

There is no max level, so you can continue on this treadmill until you get bored. Or forever. (Or, more realistically, until you can’t complete them anymore.)

Just noting on your comment about PvP. GW2 PvP is about skill not gear and that wont change.

In PVP they have made changes:
added Matchmaking
add WvWvW lvls (different from your character lvl)
a ton more other things.

Ranger; Warrior; Mesmer; Elementalist; Guardian; Engineer
[GWAM] and [LUST]

A lot of things have been added to Guild Wars 2 since launch, mostly to the PvE and recently some WvW. However, I doubt this will be much more appealing to you since your expectations towards pvp will not be met, ever, in structured pvp. If you want to “pwn nubs” with uber gear, then WvW is where you do it, just don’t go in expecting that you won’t be outnumbered. Spvp will remain as is in terms of having all gear stats available to you, because there it’s skill and only skill that matters, not because you grinded 50 hours more than the other guy to get the most expensive set of runes.

I know a lot of people who are beastly in WvW but in SPvP they’re only average, when their gear is pulled down to the standard just like everyone else. If you ever want to do structured pvp and pwn noobs, then go and prove it.

The epic loots in Guild Wars 2 will also likely stay as cosmetics. It is up to you whether you want to make yourself LOOK better than other people, not just BE better than other people.

There is, of course, the ascended tier of equipment that has been released since November with the Fractal of the Mists update, which gives a very minor stat increase from the Exotic tier. Maybe you’re into that. You should look these up. It’s not hard to go and look at ArenaNet’s blog.

I don’t think Anet’s philosphy is the same as for the game you mention. Nor the main player base I guess. When ascended gear was introduced, a lot of players flamed about the new gear they had to grind for.

So, I guess you have to consider GW2 as another kind of MMO.
Is it better or worse?!!? Well, that’s a personal taste. Personally I like GW2 so far.

Also a new MMO is on the horizon (tip: Fus Ro XXX ). Keep an eye on that. They will soon announce beta testing.

My opinion is the opposite. I hate it when a game has good PvP but oh-so-much gear to a point where a bad player with the top gear can consistently beat a great player who has average gear. Also, I feel the need to point out that grinding PvE for gear has nothing to do with being good in PvP. Same for the level of your character.

In fact, giving everyone the same gear levels the playing field and allows the actually good players to remain good.

Also, in 2003 I was playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. And WoW was released in 2004, not that I ever played it.

The game has had an endgame since it first released. The endgames just may not suit your particular taste.

Is there an endless gear grind for “vertical progression”? Nope (or at least, I hope that isn’t planned)

Are there 20-40 man raids that take the better part of 6 hours and are the end-all be-all of what you do after max level? Nope. And thank goodness for that.

Is there enough stuff to do that after hitting level 80 at the 50 hours mark that I’ve still managed to put another 650 hours into my character and still be nowhere near done yet? Absolutely. Still trucking and still haven’t come CLOSE to running out of things to do.

noob, nope. newb, maybe, sometimes.

Wrong game, wrong community for that type of thinking …

If you want gear progression, no — there is none, ascended being worst offender (and hopefully it will stay like that)

If you want to overgear and “pwn”/gank/grief “noobs” feeling 1337 — nope, never gonna happen (or lot’s of people will go away)

And hopefully they will keep GW way of not touching level cap trough the game lifetime.

Well they made some good changes in TPvP but then took them away. There used to be 3-round tournies with gems being awarded for first place, but then they removed the gem reward. And then they removed paid tournies completely. Now the only tourny option is a free 1-round tourny that might as well be a hot join with better rewards. Basically, TPvP is in shambles.

I can’t give any indication on pvp, simply because I can’t stand pvp for the most part. MMO’s I’ve played don’t seem to be well set up for pvp if they use a pve skill set – the way damage/armor etc works is always diff Vs a player than an enemy. But, that’s just a personal thing – others will answer your question there better than I.

Pve? Well I think most ppl have covered this already in the thread – the whole game is designed to be an endgame, where no zone is meant to be redundant and gear rarity is irrelevant. It does that pretty well so far, but it’s still building on the launch foundations. Plenty of growing potential in the years to come with the Living World quests building on that idea nicely.

Fractals is the closest to traditional endgame and I really enjoy it. The concept being a random series of mini dungeons + boss that you progress up the difficulty levels in and work to obtain improved gear which helps you get through higher difficulties. It fractured the community somewhat due to the gear progression existing at all, but the gear itself is such a tiny upgrade on exotics it really doesn’t matter for those players who choose to ignore it. ANd the scope for adding more short fractals + bosses is there to build on. This I look forward to immensely.

The introduction of Guild Missions was a cool idea to keep people occupied, but I find it highly flawed in implementation (see threads in General Discussion if you are interested in that)

The game hasn’t released an endgame in the classic sense because that isn’t the direction it was meant to go in. That isn’t to say classic endgame is outdated or rubbish or essential to every MMO. It just doesn’t exist here because this is an MMO trying to do without it. It will be interesting to see how other MMO companies recgnise this and adapt their strategies to match – ie copy everything Anet did well like many did with GW1

And wow isn’t boring? Then why try anything else, to criticize it not being like wow? I see it in every game forum, sad, but even sadder when the developer decides to listen and thus ruins the game for all. Anet said the game won’t be for everyone, maybe you should consider that? I’m quite entertained with the end-game here since day 1. I guess I don’t have a problem with it. This isn’t wow.

I’m not trying to come across as a kitten, but your first sentence says enough for me to suggest that you stay in WoW. The style of end game present in other MMOs is not found in GW2, new content has been added accessible by max level players, but not the typical end game fare. Different beast completely here, and if it didn’t appeal to you before it probably still wont.

The game is fun as a social hub (less and less so, though with more of my friends leaving every week), still has fun leveling content but when reading your original post: no, this is not what you are looking for.

Yeah, WvW can be fun on occasion but that is also becoming the exception, rather than the norm.
I’d stick with WoW for a couple more months, if I were in your situation. Sure it gets old and boring but at least you have pvp… and there are interesting games on the horizon.

-snip-

There is no “endgame” in the usual sense of Endgame for MMOs. There are no raids, no ten man dungeons, barely a gear grind, and gear is pretty much given out in both PVE and PVP.

This is a game about just having fun. What it is not is a gear treadmill where you grind out for better stats to beat the opposite team. There’s not this feeling of, “Oh dang, I’m a rabbit rank and I’m going up against a wolf rank; he’s going to roll me.” You both are on equal ground. What’s wrong with that?

Endgame is what you make it. You can do a Legendary, work on WvW ranks or SPVP ranks. It’s up to you. I’m grinding out towards a Legendary so that’s my “endgame.”

And no, I never spoke like that in 2003. I was playing Final Fantasy 11, pretty much the most hardcore PVE game ever; where PVP is laughed upon.

Are you trolling?

Anyways OP, I don’t think you’ll like the new turns GW2 has made if you’re coming from World of Warcraft.

Yes, they added a “gear grind” aka a new Tier of gear that is better than Exotics (called Ascended). However, Ascended is only earned by doing Dailies/Weeklies/Monthlies (unless you do Fractals for the rings, which is limited by a Daily and potentially RNG).

Thus, even if you play 8 hours a day, the casual who plays 30 minutes a day will have the same gear as you. It’s also time restricted, you can only get 1 piece after doing X amount of Dailies (it takes a month+ of Dailies to get 1 Ascended piece on 1 character). The rate in which you earn Ascended is also based on if you’re in a large and established Guild (aka new or small Guilds are struggling with this aspect).

As for the PVP, I can’t speak for Spvp but they did make improvements to WvW but only very recently. Previously, it’s received minimal (if any?) attention.

Basically OP, walk on by.

Yeah that’s what all the wow clones are for. Some random developer sets up a wow like game to siphons off a little money via f2p RMT from wow players that only play wow and hop wow clones. Then after they make some money they close the game as wow players dart off to play some new wow clone game. The optimum time for wow clones to launch is in-between wow expansions when the general wow player is bored to death, as all wow players are at any given time for that matter. Something different is an offense to their idea of what an mmo should be, so forums are ripe spots for “give us wow features naow!” especially in pre-release forums. I wish wow was never conceived.

It’s worth coming back to try Fractals if you haven’t already.

Are you trolling?

Some of us, self included, actually find Fractals the funnest content in the game.

Short, dynamic, scaling, high reward, unpredictable.

- Makes for great ‘quicky’ fixes of GW2.

No the only grind there is, is to have the best looks, but for ascended gear, you get most of it though laurels and guild bounties. Fractals only gives u ring and backpiece, you get that at level 10 fractal, not point in going higher than level 10 because the skins don’t look that appealing.

PvP has leaderboards now though, so if your a competitive pvp’er its worth it.

Depends how you define “endgame”. Some people believe endgame is gated content that you can do after grinding X hours for a certain level of items/levels/exp. In my opinion, this label is not very fun or interesting. What proper “endgame” means to me is a set of activities that have the highest difficulty and skill cap in the game, and requires you to have mastered the “pre-endgame” content in order to excel. There is currently no PvE content that fits this definition. I see sPvP and WvW as having huge endgame potential, but they need sooooo much work and it seems that ANet is more focused on providing PvE content.

For true endgame, go play Eve Online or Dota 2.

When I was young, I used to play pen and paper RPGS, including D&D and a bunch of others. We played those games with no end game, because just playing was awesome. When RPGs came out, they were an attempt to put those pen and paper games in a computerized format. For a long time, there were games that kept the spirit of the original pen and paper games. Then WoW happened.

Everything suddenly became about raids and loot…at least PVe. But we never had raids or loot in original games. We never had the holy trinity. Games like Guild Wars 2 and even Guild Wars 1 was much closer to what playing a pen and paper game was like than something like WoW and the games that came after it. Even the original Everquest, at launch was more like it. UO was certainly more like it.

For a lot of people WoW and other games took a wrong turn, because if focused on the MMO portion of the equation but largely ignored the RPG part of the equation. Guild Wars 2 did less to move the genre forward than most people say…but it did more to get the genre back to where it was before a whole lot of people stopped enjoying it. It has tried, at least, to put the RPG back into MMORPG. This was sorely needed in this genre.

The end game that people like the OP seek isn’t here, but that doesn’t mean there’s no end game. It means that the end game isn’t defined by grinding for gear, or by raiding. It’s defined differently. In fact, in a game like this everyone makes their own end game…just like in pen and paper. Different groups focused on different things.

So if you love one aspect of the game and it becomes your focus, that becomes YOUR end game. not THE end game.

That’s why I don’t mind Fractals or Ascended gear. It’s another end game for a different type of player. But you can play this game with any end game of your choosing and be just as happy.

I agree with the OP to an extent, running around zones doing “boring” DE’s ive done loads of time before gets old real fast. There dosnt seem like any solid reason to go back to zones, the rewards suck, there are lots of things happening, that I dont feel connected to in any way whatsoever, and the hack and slash combat with no real tactics kinda lements it.

I never played wow btw, was a gw1 player for a long time, basic thing is rewards kept me going back to places, If I needed X amount of mats for something id go farm them, here im not allowed to farm so fun spoiled

Edit:
Fow and UW btw, and oddy armor been the perfect reason why these areas were perfect end game.

LOL…

This OP is hilarious.

I love went people don’t read up on a game and make assumptions like this.

Once again for those slow to understand.

You……… are…….. in…….. the…… end………game…… the…… moment….. you…. enter…… the….. game….. at…… level…… ONE.

That is why your level reduces when you go in a lower level zone.

You won’t find free WoW here, but you may appreciate GW2 for the game it is …

It does have a bit more end game than at launch, which was already stuffed with things to do starting at lvl 1.
- ascended equipment should be right up your grindy sleeve
- fractal grind to replace your raids
- guild missions
- WvW now has rank grind
- a whole lot more skins have been released

I’m calling them grind because you obviously want the traditional wow-grind. Any of those can be done by playing casual, but of course you don’t want that. Telling you to grind them will suit your preferences more.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

- entitled Player leaves the game because he doesn’t like it
- decided to come back to the game because he thinks that he will like it now
- other people have to write down the patchnotes for him because he is too lazy to check them himself

As I’ve already asked in an other thread. Is this a new thing? Are we some kind of marketing department from A.Net that needs to sell you the game again? And why not use the well documented update pages to inform yourself about updates?
