Not the game for you, OP. Anet design philosophies are different from WoW ones and you seem to have a hard time grasping it.

I can’t call myself a hardcore player who plays this game 12 hours a day neither am I a casual player who logs in for 1 hour in a month. I’ve played this game for like 400 hours totally sine the launch.
Few days ago I finally got all ascended gear, I have armor and weapons with the best upgrades/sigils/runes/whatever.
So here’s the question – what the hell am I supposed to do now?
Start a new character and grind everything again?
Grind for Legendary?
Play FoTM till I womit allover my PC screen?
Honestly, I can’t find a reason to log in anymore, this isn’t whining, I want to play I just can’t find the reason to.
How come I played GW1 for 3.5k hours and only got bored after the 5th year?
Perhaps PvP wasn’t as bad as in the GW2. Perhaps Elite missions were much more enjoyable than in GW2? Perhaps because GW1 felt much more alive than GW2 even with all the instances…
Also the amount of disgust in the OP is insulting to pretty much the entire playerbase.

Here’s a suggestion.
ELITE MISSIONS (A.K.A casuals and noobs GTFO and go play your Hello Kitty)
Cost to enter for each person – 10G. Team size 12.
All monsters kill you in 4~5 hits, Berserker gear owners die instantly.
Tons and tons of coordination and teamplay, can’t be done without Team Speak or any other voice chat.
Lenght of the mission ~2-3 Hours.
No armor repair available, no Waypoints.
Dynamic monsters who dodge and don’t have 10000000000000000000000000000000000hp.
Takes actual skill to complete.

That’s a good idea. What happens after you and the six other guys who want it finish it? What do the rest of us do?
That’s the problem with stuff like this. Even in WoW the hardest stuff was only done by a very small percentage of the playerbase. Is making stuff for them really the best use of a company’s resources?
Yeah, GW1 2-3 years ago ToA always had 4-5 Districts while all the other regular missions 1 with no people at all.
And before people star accusing me, GW1 is THE ONLY other mmo I’ve ever played.
I don’t care for rewards, all I personally want is content that challenges me and my teammates. Epic scale content leaving your jaw open and leaves you with memories for all your life.

I was there. You had a couple of focal points for hard content. Anet could probably better tell you the percentage of people who finished that content.
There were PLENTY of people in other places..but it seemed like less because the number of people who were in other places didn’t actually all stay in the SAME place….so you couldn’t see them.
In fact, if a hundred different people were soloing say in Sparkfly Swamp, you couldn’t see them at all. Each was in his own instance.
Put it this way. Let’s say you had 3 zones in DOA. But when the Canthan New Year hit you had over 100 zones in Shing Jea Monastary.
So where did the other 90 plus zones of people come from? They weren’t all doing DOA.
The thing is, so many more people just screwed around in the open world than DOA.
As I’ve said often on these forums, everyone always thinks the way they play is the way most people play. Most people in GW 1 never finished DOA.
People should look at that content and think “That’s Epic! I want to be there one day too!” and then they gradually become better and better… and then they are able to do it.
50/50 gwamm here, never finished DOA. Never even got in a group.

So why can’t you dedicate 1% of the game for people like me who wants challenge?
99% of the everything else can be filled with Super Adventure Boxes for all I care.
I mean, really just 1% which will be played for years to come like UW or FoW was.

Well, some of the game is hard. High level fractals and Arah are relatively hard anyway. That’s probably about 1% of the game. Anyway that stuff took time to create.
For one thing, DOA didn’t come out at launch, only Underworld and FOW did. Most of the game wasn’t that hard.
And Anet probably learned that that wasn’t where their bread was buttered anyway. You make your initial content for the bulk of the population. You refine and add stuff later.

My wife and I finished it with six heroes and never went back again. It was probably the most grueling thing I ever did in Guild Wars 1. And while it was nice to do it, and get the tormented weapon, I didn’t really enjoy it and never went back.
Its either some stonking hard content like Dark Souls or SAB.
None of the above, thank you very much.

Except for ex-Guild Wars 1 players like me and Marnick and my wife and most of my guild. Maybe you just assume everyone played Guild Wars 1 the way you did.
How come I respect and don’t go bashing people and threads who like Super Adventure Box? Why can’t other people do the same thing?

I didn’t assume anything. Use the search function. Many, many voices, from ex-GW1 players… round about the time ascended gear was announced. Ah, maybe you forgot.
Maybe you are making the assumption that you, your wife, your guild and everyone on your friends list are the only guild wars 1 players in the known universe and that your play style is the be-all end-all.
Not that it matters, mind you.
Endgame? As in… it’s over?
I feel it’s important to point out, that if GW2 is anything like it’s precusor GW, we still have two sequels and an expansion likely coming down the line eventually. We have two as yet unreleased continents (Cantha representing Asia and Elona representing Africa, both with likely their very own storylines), and the Northern Shiverpeaks (where Jormag currently resides). The Shiverpeak expansion I expect is up next, seeing as everything we’ve seen thus far points to Jormag being the next target in the Tyrian campaign to lay waste to the elder dragons.
Commander to [SLVR], Housepet to [GH]
I dont mind waiting for more new content for core GW2 (some may call it Hello Kitty, that’s respect for you). As for SAB fans, good news: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon awaits. Not quite the same genre but same nostalgia factor.
It will be helpful if Anet announced their long term plans formally and Anet actually survey their entire playerbase via email, not just the ones on the forums.

Ingame I see more GWAMM, travelers, guild warriors and chosen than any other. Apparently a lot of dedicated GW1 players really like GW2.
Maybe measuring success and opinions should be done with the actual playerbase and not on forums

Maybe, or maybe most just got GW1 for the HoM skins. See, thats how speculation works.

You’re making the assumption that the people from Guild Wars 1 who like the game come to the forums to say so. People post to complain. Naturally the Guild Wars 1 players who are complaining are going to out number the ones who aren’t. How many people stop to post a complaint about something they don’t like, compared to the number of people who stop to post a compliment?
I’m seriously guessing PvPers are less satisfied overall than PvE’ers. I’m also suggesting that as Guild Wars 1 grew older, a game originally aimed at PvPers started showing a lot of love for PvE’ers. In the end, there were far more PvE updates and far more PvE content patches than there were PvP.
I think, most likely, Anet figure out there were more people playing the game for Pve than they originally thought would be. After all, PvPer’s make their own content, PVe’ers need to be provided with content. Each subsequent Guild Wars 1 update was more and more about PvE.
So yeah, the PvPers probably mostly aren’t satisified, but do they represent the bulk of the Guild Wars 1 players?
Interesting question, I think.

Those who got GWAMM, definitely didn’t do it for skins. You can get skins quite easily for 30/50 points in the HoM. Getting GWAMM took a whole different level of dedication. People who bought GW 1 for the skins (some of those in my guild) couldn’t have cared less about getting GWAMM.
Those who got GWAMM, like my wife and I, probably were long term Guild Wars 1 players.

It’s not a title you can easily miss and I don’t think its one that, if you have it, you are not going to wear. So, having said that, why do I see so few of these titles running around doing dragons, dungeons, DEs… even in LA. I’ll actively focus on this though and I urge any readers of this thread to do the same. If there really are that many GWAMMs running around Tyria we need to find their hiding spot. This could be like when people were looking for Final Rest!
Seriously, though, GWAMM doesn’t mean anything. Most of the people I know that got it, bought most of it. It has no indication of player skill or dedication, whatsoever. Perfectly in line with Legendary weapons, come to think of it.

1/ you won’t get 50/50 and gwamm unless you really liked GW1. It’s not something you could grind through. Takes almost a year of dedicated almost exclusive play.
2/ Forum people are a self-selected minority, and therefor not a representation of the community by default. You can have an opinion, as long as you realize the forums don’t really represent the real playerbase.

Lol, that’s like saying the people who don’t vote are more important than the people who do. If a player wants to be heard there is a simple and available tool for them to do so. As someone else pointed out in the forums “No one knows what the silent majority thinks, because they are silent”. People who voice their opinions are the only ones who matter when someone asks about opinions. And that’s what these forums are for. Anet has tools at their disposal for metrics for basing population trends in game, but this and other game forums and boards are the only tools they have for broad player feedback. I encourage all players to post on the forums, regardless of their views, so that their voice can also be heard. If they choose not to, then the fault lies with them, not the people who actually voice their opinion.

Probably not the best strategy for a successful business.
In fact, it doesn’t work for politicians either. They need to get as many votes as possible, not just the votes from people who visit political forums. They do that by hiring research companies to call houses and ask them, not by just taking the voice of a few people and assuming it’s the majority.

If you are a consumer (read here as player), and you buy something that is defective or doesn’t live up to expectations, it’s your responsibility to seek refund, let the manufacturer know your displeasure. Retailers, and manufacturers often give out satisfaction surveys, or cards included with purchases of items. They also have websites and Customer Service desks. These are all tools that are available to the consumer.
If the consumer gets a defective product, takes medicine that has adverse side effects, eats a hamburger with hair in it, and then says nothing, they become the “silent majority” who are just plain happy with the service, and nothing changes. The cards, and surveys can also be filled out saying how great the service was, or how happy they are with the product. If a manufacturer or retailer never hears any customer feedback, they then only have sales to figure out what is going wrong or right (metrics).
If an individual is elected to public office, and you believe that that person should not have been there, but did nothing to stop it or influence the outcome, then the fault lies as much with your inaction as it does with the people who actually voted.
Being a consumer is a proactive process, whether it be gaming, buying furniture, or selecting a tax preparer. The forums that Anet have provided the player base are a part of that process, if you choose to opt out of that process, realize that that is indeed a choice. It’s not up to developers to read your mind, but instead up to you to voice it.

I agree with the above 100%. Doesn’t change the fact that most consumers don’t say anything. In fact, most consumers aren’t even QUALIFIED to say anything that matters.
See a 13 year old kid playing a thief that just wants his character to be completely OP is going to say ridiculous things. People who want to grief might ask for things that allow them to grief. People who like to bot might ask for things that allow them to bot. RPers will ask for stuff for themselves.
All the feedback in the world is irrelevent if everyone needs different things and some of them are mutually exclusive.
Companies need to have a pulse on what people want, but they don’t have to agree or act on those things.
For one thing, most people don’t think deeply about their gaming experience. They play a game and it’s fun or it’s not fun. They can’t even qualify why it’s fun, or what would make it better.
It’s the people who THINK they have good ideas that post on forums. Some do. Some don’t.
The rest of the people? They’re like the people who don’t know anything about politics but vote anyway. In politics their vote counts.
I’d sorta rather not have it count for game development.
- entitled Player leaves the game because he doesn’t like it

The game had more dungeons upon launch than most MMOs, WoW included. Whether they fit into your idea of what one should be, is a matter of opinion and preference.
Fractals might be more along the lines of what you’re hoping for, a scaling dungeon. But there just isn’t a gear grind to stroke your ego like in other MMOs. And hopefully there never will be.
The idea behind PvP in GW2 is skill > gear. So it doesn’t matter how much cool gear you have, if you’re a crappy player you’re a crappy player. Can’t dress it up in GW2. I like it like that. Means you can be a casual PvP player & not have to grind for PvP specific gear and still be relevent.
If you want to pwn n00bs and be 1337 then this isn’t the game for you. Sorry, but Anet wanted it to be different on purpose. Try it out, you have an account & it’s free. If you don’t like it, no loss right?

OP will have lost precious time from his life. Since as others have stated he has done zero research and expects all others to cater to him especially in being killed my him.
Also as stated by others this game is not for him… he would actually have to use the thing between his ears to accomplish a goal instead of mindless spam some buttons foe and insta-kill
And the point of an MMO is to get epic loot and pwn some noobs right? (Come on, you used to talk like that back in 2003-2004, don’t lie x3)
I thought the point was just to have fun. Also I’ve never talked like that.
Now if you are really interested in knowing I tended to rant like Doctor Doom when attempting something in game (PvP and PvE).
What you want for “end game” ArenaNet doesn’t believe in. I would just stick to WoW or try Rift, this game wasn’t made for someone who enjoys end game content or raiding, it was made for the journey.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
In WoW gear is a reward for your skill so you can show off and u don’t have to play at ur best vs easier players/dungeons. In gw2 u don’t get more power as a reward. There IS a dungeon scaling in difficulty if you are looking to test ur skills (because that’s called endgame no?) or u can play spvp tournaments but pvp is really horrible here.

Hahaha, I love a good laugh. Thanks for that.

What journey? I’ve done all the dungeons and all the /maps/hearts/POIs and I never again want to go through them ever again, that’s why I only have one main character.
Is wondering around doing nothing or sitting in LA a journey then what the hell.
I’m PERSONALLY not asking for better reward, I PERSONALLY want UW/FOW like HARD dungeons which can’t be done with bad players/crying casuals.

If you don’t like the journey, then you don’t like the journey. Sorta like booking a vacation.
Some people want to hike through the Andes and some people want a beach in the Carribean. Neither is wrong.
If they added the Underworld or FOW or something like it, that would be fine…but it wouldn’t make my enjoyment of the game at all better. Because this game was designed, I’m assuming anyway, for people like me.
There are plenty of MMOs out there with challenging instances that you need to study for days and weeks before you attempt them. And yeah, if they added stuff like that here, it wouldn’t be a big deal. but don’t ask what journey.
Your idea of a journey is my idea of annoyance. My idea of a journey, obviously doesn’t impress you.
But a whole lot of people seem to like this journey. If you think it’s about doing all the dungeons and getting world completion…well, maybe you’re just not getting it.
When I was young, I used to play pen and paper RPGS, including D&D and a bunch of others. We played those games with no end game, because just playing was awesome. When RPGs came out, they were an attempt to put those pen and paper games in a computerized format. For a long time, there were games that kept the spirit of the original pen and paper games. Then WoW happened.
OMG, No endgame in D&D.
That SUCKS!!!
/swipes your d12s
Yeah… you only need an ‘endgame’ if there’s no ‘game’…
Here, we gotz game.
PS: GW1 player here, and WoW player. With both of those in mind, I prefer GW2.
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.

50/50 gwamm here, never finished DOA. Never even got in a group.
Isn’t that something! Good for you.
@Nick
No use trying to argue. Anet made it perfectly clear this game is not for ex-GW1 players.Ingame I see more GWAMM, travelers, guild warriors and chosen than any other. Apparently a lot of dedicated GW1 players really like GW2.
Maybe measuring success and opinions should be done with the actual playerbase and not on forums
Maybe, or maybe most just got GW1 for the HoM skins. See, thats how speculation works.
I’d wager you’re as guilty of the speculation as those you’re charging. Maybe moreso – the amount of hours it takes to get those HOA benefits from GW1. Reasonable to calculate that at a few hundred to max out. And the rewards are cosmetic only, or fall off after level 10. It is reasonable to conclude that a person who was not a fan of both games would not rationally devote a few hundred hours to GW1 just for those benefits.

Maybe, maybe not. I guess it is a matter of perspective, then.

Never used D12 all that much. I eventually wrote my own game system, just for me and my friends. If you took my percentile dice, however, we’d have to have words.
Strangely my son recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons version 3.5 with some friends. He was disappointed with 4.0 he felt that they’d dumbed it down too much.

One of my friend couldn’t get into any MMos because he felt they all lacked the true spirit of what RPG is all about: playing an important role that actually has a huge impact on the world -something like that. And If I remember well, DandD was the original one, and the only one he got into it for a really long time, and still now. I tried to get into, but I lacked the creativity to really excel at it (Talking about the paper version)
They do lack the true spirit of the original pen and paper games…but you can’t solo a pen and paper game either. At my age it’s much harder to get together with friends regularly (considering I moved 10,000 miles away from most of them).
Guild Wars 2 does a decent job at times of capturing that feeling. Actually, the personal story is probably the biggest obstacle in capturing it.
The wandering through the world and not necessarily knowing that is going to happen is a pretty big thing for me. I quite like it.
I must say that I for one am not interested in gaining rank in anything… I think that its a waste and why should I invest all this time for a title! Even in COD I think the levels of prestige are dumb. My goal in COD was never to prestige, but to unlock all my attachments and guns. I can do that without ever going prestige and I did. Now if you are telling me that I can PVP or WVW and gain rank for a reward or purpose then maybe I might be persuaded. That would involve them giving me more powerful abilities, spells or gear the higher rank I become. There are these people who are like, “look at me and check out my rank!”, I am not one of them. The reason I play shooters is to unlock new guns, attachments and the reason for mmos is to unlock new abilities and gear. By the way….. Cosmetic camo on guns or armor is not a unlock in my book and a waste of time just like mmos that only reward you with cosmetic gear or a title.
I want a true reward for my effort like the next best item (Gun, attachment, spell, ability, and gear).
