I try and read the forums daily and whenever there is a change players threaten to leave, jump ship to another game, wait for the next hyped game or have a break.

When culling was still an issue in the game and you couldnt even see the creatures or players you were supposed to be in combat with, i stopped playing.

This was Xmas 2012, and i didnt return to the game until 10 months later.

The game has no sub, you lose nothing by having a break.

This also means that “threats of leaving” have zero impact on the devs.

So if this game isnt for you right now, Have A Break (and stop with the hollow threats).

Everyone has an impact on the game,a player that does or does not buy gems.I have some time without buying gems but i recommended the game to my cousin,that brought income.Leaving players are never a good thing for a game.

Some people aren’t just making threats. And some people would take gem purchases with them. Personally, the only time I’ve said I would uninstall is if there were open world duelling added. This is not a threat. If ANet decided to implement it, that, to me, would make the game unplayable. Not a big deal. I leave. But I also purchase a lot of gems with real money, so ANet would lose out on my dollars. Maybe they would make that up with new players who want open world duelling, who are new and came here just for that. Okie dokie. Would not make any difference to me.

TL;DR. Some people are just stating facts rather than “threats”. Player losses may eventually hurt ANet in lost gem sales.

If you convert gold for gems, you are taking gems out of the market. Gems that cost real money. You end up spending gems for which someone paid real money. For the devs it doesn’t matter who paid for the gems, but every gem spent is real money paid to them.

So even if you only convert gold, you are still taking part in spending real money on the game. This is why I think the gem-for-gold trade between players is such a great idea. It allows free-players to indirectly spend real money on the game.

If you convert gold for gems, you are taking gems out of the market. Gems that cost real money. You end up spending gems for which someone paid real money. For the devs it doesn’t matter who paid for the gems, but every gem spent is real money paid to them.

i dont follow your logic here, gems are an infinite resource.

Well I’m a dev myself and I’m Ok with supporting other devs. I was buying gems to get convenience items like bank tab or server transfer even I had enough gold. At least before ascended patch. Now I don’t think game is moving the direction I like so I’m not going to buy it anymore. At least before CDI thread results. Easy as that.

All gw2 has going for it is spiffy graphics and the most innovative combat system that’s ever been implemented in an mmo. It’s just too bad i can’t use that combat system to down an actual challenging boss for loot that’s worth a kitten … or kill some friends I know in duels.

when will we know about CDI? i mean something official, what they decided to do with gw2. not the usual philosophy about it…that soon proves false. (like manifesto)
