Have I ruined my pristine fractal relic?

You can always try sending a ticket to anet, but in that particular case I doubt they would refund you.
No way to change it back.

That’s pretty weak. There was no confirmation dialogue or anything indicating I was just about to ruin a unique currency and there was no way of going back.
Fractals were pretty fun and I don’t mind running them again, but still…

Double-click to convert to 15 Fractal Relics.
And why click “use” if you want to deposit it?

That’s why I always check Wiki if I’m not sure about something. /wiki pristine fractal relic
Can’t revert it as far as I know, sorry. It’s one of those currencies that didn’t make it to the wallet, probably because a lot of people just convert them right away.
Good thing they’re pretty easy to get?

yep, i have like 95 sitting in my bank. They are not hard to get

Seriously. This ^^
Any currency that is able to be deposited automatically goes into your wallet already, so why are you trying to double click it? I feel like this is a good example of why anet felt they needed to create the NPE. No one reads anything or understands simple game mechanics like account wallets.

This is an insulting reply. You act like all of these currencies and items are straightforward when they are anything but.
I’m also collecting Foxfire clusters. These stay in my bag and can’t be deposited even though I can tell almost no difference between them and other gems that go into my materials storage?
I also found a “Fractal Spoon” on this run. After trying to deposit this, I have to Google to find out this is part of something called Collections and I have to randomly go talk to an NPC just to get it out of my backpack? I mean really?
Also I see Fractal relics in my wallet. I’m thinking, “Ok these regular ones are in my wallet, I must be missing something with the Pristine ones. It’s not like Foxfires or the Spoon collection makes any sense. Let me just do a search in my materials just to check. Oh ok, you can’t search your materials. Well, good thing they’re organized so well. Oh well, now I see Quartz crystals and Charged Quartz crystals aren’t anywhere near each other? Yeah, ok maybe they aren’t well organized. Ok well maybe I missed something somewhere, I mean, these Pristine Fractal Relics should go somewhere, right?”
So I right-click and see an option I don’t see on any other item I have in my inventory – “use”. I think, ok I don’t know what this does, but maybe it stores these things somewhere, and then…poof! That’s it. No dialogue. No confirmation. Just gone with no way back.
Now I come here and have to listen to people defend this system? I mean really? How about we get some consistency between materials, currencies, collections, and random crap that gets stuck in your backpack.

“A small portion of the Mists, magically crystallized and perfectly preserved. Double-click to convert to 15 Fractal Relics.”
Thats what it says if you hover your mouse over it. Sorry to say.. but read stuff before you click it…
It would be nice to have a confirmation dialogue, if for no other reason than to prevent accidental useage of the pristine relic when you meant to double-click on something else, or were trying to deposit it into the bank or something. It’s why they put confirmation dialogues on things like salvaging rares and exotics, or when buying particular expensive items.
In any case, there’s unfortunately no way to revert the process. Luckily they aren’t the hardest things to accumulate.
OP, I can understand your frustration and I do think a confirmation dialogue would help, but pristine fractal relics aren’t some rare, hard to get currency. This particular change was instituted because prior to Mawdrey the only thing you could get with pristine fractal relics were ascended rings which most fractal runners have far too many of. The change was implemented because pristine fractal relics were too prevalent. They’re easier to get now than they were back then, since finishing a fractal run at any level gives them to you.
And it does say double click to convert them on mouse over. Using something is always the same as double clicking it.
If you use an essence of luck it’s the same as double clicking it. You didn’t read the text.
So the people who are rudely telling you that you did something wrong aren’t necessarily wrong in what they’re saying, even if they are possibly wrong in how they are saying it.

Did you really expect everyone to sympathize with you? I’m sorry that you’re frustrated, but really, you should have just read the item description.
What lack of consistency is there? Currency are those in your wallet, nothing more nothing less. Materials are those in the bank storage; these are usually stuff that are used in a lot of the traditional crafting disciplines. Other stuff that act like currency, such as the pristine fractal relic and the WvW tournament tickets and those festival tokens are stuff that stay in your backpack.
And use never means to deposit.

I do sympathize with the OP. I’m sure we’ve all done careless things from time to time and got burned by it. That’s enough for me to sympathize.
Old topic, but I just lost my first one (need five for Mawdrey) because I dragged it from a regular inventory bag to an invisible bag and it converted for some reason other than me double clicking. It isn’t always “reed teh tule typ noob”.
They should have a place in the wallet, along with so many other things…

I sold ecto to a merch in gw1 because I thought its value was the value written in the tool tip. until I accidently found out how much of a noob i was. reading the tool tips doesnt always help.
