Guild Wars 2

So I just bought a Turtle Beach headset for 60 dollars and I can gladly say that it was well worth it. I plugged them into my computer and started up Guild Wars, and oh. my. gosh. The sound was so amazing that I sat there stunned for a minute or two just listening to the sounds of the forest and the sound of the attacks/skills. This was a huge increase from my logitech headset that cost 45 dollars. What about you guys? What headsets do you prefer to use while playing Guild Wars 2 and why are they different from other headsets?

i use quality 2.0 speakers and use my webcam as a microphone if I need to communicate on mumble.

Just use a good pair of stereo headphones, and personally I like the effect of dolby headphone.

Because of preferring portable equipment, I’m using an asus xonar U3 (it’s not amazing but there’s not much to choose from when it comes to external and portable equipment…) with some sennheiser hd595s.

Oh and this might be better in off topic discussion I would imagine.

Tweaked audio make really good earbuds for a great price and their customer support is outstanding. A friend of mine was wearing his while mowing his lawn and somehow ended up running over them. He ordered some more but in the process told them why he was ordering more. They sent him replacements for free.

I use Turtle Beach too, and yes they do make the game sound amazing.

Well worth it.

I use my old Sony headphone for everything. At least 10 years and it’s still great.

I use a pair of Audio Technicas

All gaming are done with headphones for 15 yrs. Been using Beats Solo HD last 3 years. I travel a lot and I use these headphones on flights.

Sennheiser HD595s, AKG K701s and ATH-M50 are what I use mostly.

I’ve been using the logitech g35 for the past 5 years. Comfy and the ear padding blocks most noises like tvs and pc fans. It has dolby headphone for surround and is on a usb connection so I don’t need a soundcard to use it.

I had turtle beach before these and the reason i changed was the turtle beachs were too bassy, uncomfortable and hot. Sennheiser is a more audiophile oriented company so sound quality comes first. Their pc360 model is geared towards gamers so its the best of both worlds. They sound amazing and are super comfy. They feature an open earcup design (which means the outside of the ear cups are vented which makes them breathe better, my ears never get hot). They also have a cool feature when you move the mic up into its upward position it auto mutes the mic. Makes it super fast in muting the mic as opposed to looking for some inline mute. Downside is they are pricey, but hey you get what you pay for in headphones.

Go to Lornar’s Pass. The sound effects in that zone will blow your mind.

I’ve been meaning to get headset with a mic, but don’t want to spend too much on them, and yet, I don’t want some tacky ones which break after a few months. XD

Budget is around £50, any suggestions?

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700s, paired with an embarrassingly inexpensive Xonar DSX. Relatively inexpensive (as far as headphones approaching actual quality go); absurdly comfortable (I’ve worn them for twelve hours at a time before, barring bathroom breaks) and they completely slaughter the kitten that tends to get passed off as gaming headsets in the equivalent price range. (I’m in it for music more than gaming, anyhow.)

Seriously, though, hearing “The Seraph” through reasonably decent headphones made me fall in love with GW2 all over again.

Mic for Mumble/TS/etc. is provided by my trusty ol’ Logitech C910 webcam. :x

I have a $120+ set of 7.1 surround, over the ear headphones for that very reason. I would play the game on a 10" screen if I had to, but give me crappy speakers (or no speakers) and I won’t touch it. I’d just assume read a book at that point. Sound is massively important for me.

I also have the Sennheiser PC 360’s. Excellent quality and you can wear them comfortably for long weekend marathon sessions. Mine are paired with the Astro MixAmp for pretty good surround sound and the ability to individually adjust the volume of the game and the volume of my chat program on the fly using good old-fashioned knobs. Great music reproduction too, it you get tired of Jeremy Soule and want to listen to your media player.

I recently bought a Steelseries headset and agree 100% that quality headsets do make a massive difference.

It’s a shame ArenaNet already nerfed the good audio effects. Portals, necromancer’s staff, chain swords, and so on.
