I understand the giant hype coming from the recent news under the title of “Heart of Thorns”, but I am wondering…

What if it is not an expansion? What could it possibly be then?
Now, I personally hope it to be an expansion, but I feel that Heart of Thorns could be…

- A living story expansion that is received under a patch, and is the complete 3rd season (+ First season as an added extra)

- Just an epic name for the 3rd season of the living story, but this time the living story will give us a lot more content than season 2 did. So, for example, Episode one of season 3 unlocks a new profession, episode 2 unlocks a new race, etc etc…

I’m open for everything. I just don’t want to expect something so epic, to then be let down!

We have had small patches for so long now.

I think HoT will be a large Living story season, several episodes packed into one, with a big feature pack. Aka, an expansion, just that ANet won’t call it one and it won’t feel like a traditional one. However, i don’t see there being as much as you’d expect from an expansion. Heart of Thorns will probably feature the rest of Maguuma Wastes, Magus Falls and some of Janthir areas. Those of you who think this is Cantha or Elona, prepare to be let down big time.

A breakfast cereal.
The title to the latest GW2 novel.
The title to a future GW2 movie.
The name of a tabletop RPG version of GW2.

Could be anything. I hope it just a pack of LS. A few episodes put together so it feels like the PS. That would be great. But with that said I’m not getting hyped, I’ve waved everyone off on that train and I await the wreck that it will probably be.

It will be an animated series of the Guild Wars characters, where they move to the Maguuma Jungle and solve crimes.

A new book would be plausible, but I doubt they would have advertised it in-game if that’s all it was. I also doubt it’ll be a traditional boxed expansion that people expect. ArenaNet was all about trying new things, so falling back to the old model that everyone else uses just doesn’t seem right. Taking note of their PAX description, I simply doubt they would reveal what everyone else does. If it’s an expansion, I wouldn’t expect it to be in the form that people are accustomed to, but that’s what the living world concept was supposed to be.

Since they bothered to register the name/logo, which is something they haven’t done for the other names they’ve used, they’re likely planning on marketing it, as in selling something. Maybe it’s as simple as season 2 packaged together and sold as a box or as a combo with the game, though they wouldn’t have advertised that in-game.

If something big isn’t announced however, ArenaNet has basically set themselves up for failure. It doesn’t really matter what they do however, people will be disappointed when it’s not exactly what they want. A countdown clock, in-game advertisement, PAX ticket giveaway – it’s like what they used to do before launch.

Because everyone else seems to be doing it, I wouldn’t be surprised if ArenaNet revealed a GW2 related MOBA or card game.
