Is there any chance Heart of Thorns will be selling using Gems as a medium of payment? I heard 1 of my friends bought HoT using gems and i’m miss that day.

He probably upgraded HoT version(Standard→Deluxe). I’m more than sure you couldn’t buy expansion with gems and you won’t be able to do it in future.

They haven’t released HOT via the gem store and never will.
Considering you can earn gold in game and convert it to gems they would lose a lot of money.
