QFT. You can easily pick up the negativity of the people in here if you hang around too much. Build a big, thick wall.

Yeah, better to experience the game first, form your own opinions and then see what folks are griping about…. Cause there are folks who do like the game and you just might be one of those persons.
Welcome to the game. Now head over to the players helping players section, and this thread in particular:

As for general discussion: leave this place. And do not look back. It can…change you.

Make sure you read this thread, it had a couple gems in it I couldn’t live without.

Enjoy – it’s the best MMO out there, by far.
Remember you can go to the mists to be insta-levelled to 80 with all abilities and gear and try out different classes on the target dummies to see what you like.

I have to agree, GW2 is simply the best MMO out there. Even the haters can’t name a better one. I also really enjoy the graphics and there is not a day where I don’t log on to play.
Hey Cal, welcome to GW2! I hope you enjoy the time you spend in game, and all the epic adventures that lay before you.
As far as a Profession choice for your first/main character, let me suggest Elementalist. To me they are (by far) the most fun profession in the game. And while they have the steepest learning curve, once you get the hang of it and find a good build, they can be quite rewarding to play.
Let me say right now they are not the typical “mage” class. And you will not just be focusing on one element; you will use them all. It’s not a “nuke them before they get to you” kind of thing, it’s a much more engaging and exciting play style. Although, if you build a certain way, you can have pretty good survivability through healing. It’s sort of a jack-of-all-trades class, you have some control, healing, damage, condition (damage over time), TONS of mobility (no problem moving around the map quickly, or maintaining constant movement speed buffs), and access to some very powerful combos / combo fields.
Elementalist will probably require more effort to succeed with (have to hit more buttons, dodge around more, etc…) than any other profession, but I think that’s part of what makes it fun. And I think that’s part of why you won’t get bored with it as quickly as you would another class. It’s also not the easiest class to start out with, but if you stick with it I’m sure you will grow to love it as I have.
Anyway, I’m going to stop rambling about my favorite profession now, and just let you decide for yourself. Good luck with everything, and have fun adventuring in Tyria!
This threads answers are SHOCKING!
@smoothy: You’re not totally wrong, but you’re promoting ignorance… that’s never a good thing
@hickeroar: Berlin would have words with you.
@bruno sardine: fantastic post, perfect sense +1
@AcidicVision: yeah, I used to be black… or no… wait it doesn’t change you unless you consider expanding your opinion and seeing others argue theirs the bad kind of change…
@Evil Geek: you are CLEARLY easily amused or exaggerating massively…
But most importantly
@Calloveri:
Welcome to GW2, a game that does so much right that you may NEVER see the imperfections, may never care for any of it’s mishaps shortcomings or flaws and will stay playing (for free) for a long time
Maybe you’ll fall in love running around the shiverpeak mountains for hours and or join a small group of folks running around doing DE’s etc, maybe you’ll make your fortune flipping items on the TP, or maybe you’ll just roleplay in an inn somewhere.
One thing you shouldn’t be afraid of is trying new things and exploring, it’s one of the games strong points, but for definite and I mean this with all sincerity, don’t listen to those that would tell you to shut your eyes, turn off your brain and “eat your grind veggies” if there’s something you don’t like. The forums aren’t always for the squeamish but they’re nowhere near as kittenome make them out to be
Also the auto levelling to 80 is a balancing thing done, and you’ll retain your true level when you leave the mists
Happy adventuring
Welcome! Enjoy your journey.
You can add me in-game, i go with the name: Calloveri on Vacci? server, i chose the first server that was on top, see you in-game later this day.
Welcome young padawan!
Enjoy the game and have fun – it’s why you bought it.
Yes, there are negative aspects to this game, however, overall I’m sure you will have fun.
Stop trying to scare thig person away from the forums. If it weren’t for them people would not be able to comunicate with the devs and overall discuss issue/concerns and just overall say thank you.
Do not click this link!

Welcome to the magical world of Guild wars.
When I first started playing, I made 5 characters of different professions. I then played them all in turn and came out with my favourite 2. It’s a good way to find what suites you best.
Welcome to Tyria mate
Welcome to GW2!!!! The only bit of advice I can offer is to stay away from this General Discussion area and ignore all the haters.
