It feels like you are addicted?

I suggest you contact support (or maybe a mental health professional) if you ever get the urge to snort the game off the computer screen or mainline the game thru the power cord.

Get rid of your account, uninstall. If you really are sick of the game and want to enjoy your life without the game in the back of your mind 24/7, do this. Might be hard, but you’ll feel 1000x better.

My advice to get over your addiction is to keep playing. The game isn’t that immersive. After a while one of the many little imperfections in the game will make you lost interests.

Particularly, if you hit level 80, played most of the contains , and now run out of end-games activities to keep you interested. But until then have fun.

I could not get GW2 out of my mind last few days. I played four days last week, collecting spores and then I stopped. I have not played four days and but kept thinking about it. I am not planning the next zone to explore, the next dungeon to conquer, the next title to achieve, the next squad to join, or the next gear to grind, but what to say on this forum and how annoying it is that it eats away my time. I used to follow the motto that “If you have nothing good to say don’t say it”, but I just found GW2 kept pop up in the back of my mind causing me sidetracked even conversing. I had urges to read the forum on iphone while dinning with others. Even though the game is not attracting me to login, I woke up at middle of the night realizing I am thinking about how annoying the game is that why it kept grabbing for attention. I felt like an addict that paid to be possessed. It must be how opium, crake addicts felt.

Then it occurred to me that I should think about the happy moments I had playing the game, the first time completing Divinity Reach exploration, being invited to guilds, being helped on jumping puzzles, fighting along sides with friends in WvW even though we did not have much idea what was the plan, and just simply seeing other players running around in the beautiful world and having fun. These fun memories helped to wash away some of the aggravation somehow accumulated while slaving away for spores, seeming pointlessness time spent in the game. A year ago, login was fun.

1.) You are not addicted. You just have nothing better to do.
2.) Try going outside for a while, get some fresh air.
3.) You can try and get yourself banned some how.
4.) Go outside for a while.
5.) Buy a pet in RL
6.) Play with the pet in RL
7.) Go outside with the pet.

That’s what I would do.

Are you Shpongled?

Addiction is a very difficult term. Basicly is that your brain and body is so used to certain substances or behaviours that it cant function properly without it. Naturally all Humans are therefor addicted to oxigen and water. This addiction is even genetical cause we cant even survive withtout it the second we are born.

There are also more common addictions that are still very acceptable. One is the biggest drug in the world called Cafeine. This drug however has very little side effects and has a big advantage. its a stimulant that makes us more prductive.

So being addicted is not a big issue. It can be an issue if your addiction has bad side effects. For example, people can be so addicted to playing games like this that they dont clean their home anymore or don’t sleep at all.

Also some addiction can have social side effects that in the long term are something you will regret. A partner leaving you cause of it can be one of them.

So yes you are addicted to playing GW2. But you allready are in the process off getting off the addiction. You are realizing that the reason for playing for you is gone. I’m not a trained therapist, but I think you can handle this without any help. Important is that you delete the game. For your own protection you should also change your password to one unknown to you and destroy any proof off ownership like the productkey. This all to prevent you from having week moments.

I believe then you can ‘cure’ on your own and dont need a lot of help or attention.

After reading the replies, I can feel the caring and understanding from some of you. Thanks. I always believed that GW community has many intelligent, understanding, warm and caring players. It is your kind and thoughtful actions in and out the game brings pleasures in this otherwise tedious world mad with greed. Whether it is a well planned attack of a foe or a helping hand to others, these actions bring fun and happiness to life.

Here are some pictures of my pet.

Just keep playing? Clearly you are having fun playing the game. Just because you are happy, doesn’t mean something is wrong. You will burn yourself out at some point. It happens to everyone.

Can’t agree with you on this one. I am a complete addict of this game and I truly know it. I think about this game ALL the time. I read the forums on my phone when I go to bed and when I wake up. I play every morning and every night. I … can’t…. stop. And I’m not even a teenager :p

Not necessarily true – I realized it about three weeks before qutting Diablo II way back in the day.

Of course, that was after about 5 months of not realizing I was addicted, but still…

I don’t understand how you can be addicted to a game that is 90% time-gated. I mean, even at the peak of my enjoyment, I still only logged in to do the daily and then I got off right after that. No offense to anyone here, but I just don’t understand how anyone can be addicted to this game anyway. I got addicted to WoW because of the seemingly endless content that I could enjoy, yet I can count the number of things to do in GW2, and they’re all time-gated.

And yeah, that time-gating kills it for me too.

My advice to get over your addiction is to keep playing. The game isn’t that immersive. After a while one of the many little imperfections in the game will make you lost interests.

Or the big imperfections… like the ranger pet.

I bought a motorcycle (like I have wanted to do for a very long time) and I very much want to ride that more than play this game. Reason I’m not doing either right now is because I can’t do either right now.

RNG is a bell curve. Better hope you’re on the right side.

You’re not truly addicted until you start replacing curse words with kitten and Jesus with Lyssa just to avoid cursing or using the lords name in vain . I will say however such an addiction isn’t really a bad thing . Its actually a sign of good design when you cant get a game out of your head . I bet sooner or later you’ll be able to write poetry about your adventures in Guild wars . See you then .

dude, that is in bad form. Addictions to Video Games are a serious issue in this day and age. People have lost their jobs because they couldn’t stop playing their preferred MMO, even when they were on the clock at work.

In fact people have fallen over sick from playing a given video game for too many consecutive hours without stopping to rest. One particular noteworthy example of this case was when the Linkshell (Guild) known as Beyond the Limitation, who had previously spent 18 hours straight fighting some of FFXI’s other High Notorious Monsters (Mega Bosses), went out and sought to tackle the newest (at that time) Mega Boss known as Pandemonium Warden. What set that Boss apart from all the previous ones, is that at the time the level cap of the game was 75, the boss was higher level than that level cap, and the boss had over 20 different forms that you had to fight.

They didn’t even get to the point where they could claim victory at the point where the 18 hour marker had come and past, and the boss was still alive and they hadn’t even progressed past the majority of the fight yet. At this point they had to forfeit the fight because people were literally getting physically ill because of how much time the fight was taking.

So please do not make light of addictions to video games. They are real, and people will spend more time playing these games than is actually healthy for them.

Working as intended.
There is a reason that the login screen was changed from the medals to the 5 or six progress bars labeled Upcoming Rewards.

Referring to the serious side of addiction for a second – Daedalus Project is an interesting read on various aspects relating to the topic. This one refers to Everquest, but I think we can all relate to the line – "People who don’t play EQ don’t see the appeal in clicking “COMBINE” in front of a forge for hours."
