I am trying to figure out what is the best dps build for a Mesmer, I feel like my damage is blah compared to my Guardian and both are within 1 level of eachother with points spent into Power Traits, can anyone give me some pointers on how to maximize my Mesmer’s damage? He is level 12.

the problem is your level-
Mesmers are very trait dependent and they really only come into their own at higher levels.
At level 12 you don’t really have anything going for you yet
So level up a bit- meanwhile, pick a weapon that does power damage and some sustained damage.

what Morrigan said. Also use your shatters if you are not now. They are really good even at lower levels.

Thats the thing, I cant figure out which weapon is best for Power damage and sustain damage, most of the time i use twin swords on my Mesmer, but im guessing based on what Morrigan said, Mesmers are best used with Power type damage and not Condition damage?

Not really.
You may want to use greatsword, or go sword pistol. Conditions are great on mesmer, just they need to be applied at the right time.

The only Condition Damage effect that deals lots of damage is the second ability of the Scepter where you block an attack, create a clone and the enemy is damaged over time and takes more damage when they move, also if it helps to know, I mostly do PvE not PvP or WvW.

F2 shatter does confusion. All shatters give vunerability. 5 pistol gives blindness and the sword 2 gives you invunerability. Greatsword 2 gives vunerability and might, 4 gives cripple. When you place the different conditions on the enemy at the right time they can’t really do damage to you. Mix this with dodge and you can sail through the low levels.

condition damage can be great as a Mesmer but I would go hybrid power/ condition rather than all out power or condi.

You need to look at confusion as a condition-
thing like vulnerability will also help you if you alternate with a power weapon.

personally use gs/staff on my Mesmers but I have heard good things about sword sword and scepter/torch too
It all kind of depends on what kind of play style you enjoy since the weapons and traits affect it quite a lot on a Mesmer

For me,

Leveling my Mesmer was the most painful and tedious process. However Once I reached 80 the world opened up.

Mesmer can be a VERY technical class and capable of amazing things.

personally, the most effective way I leveled was “illusion Army”. I would do everything I could to pull out as many Phantasms that I could as often as possible and not shatter them. Let them do my work for me.

Sword/focus
Greatsword.

Sword will offer you your basic damage and a nice evade concept via sword 2, Sword 3 is a convenient distraction and offers some condi damage for you

Focus allows you some control and some Quickness buffing as Mesmer are painfully slow. And the Warden (focus 5) is a damaging illusion with some AoE capabilities.

Greatsword will allow you to be at range and the 2 skill is on a fast cool down and will bounce for added hits. The Berzerker on 4 is a damaging warden and has some good Aoe. Use the 5 skill sparingly if you are around other people. if solo, fire away

Trait points into Precision are a good thing as you go along but in lower levels see about the traits that will allow you to increase phantasms life, and or damage.

Have faith with it. If you don’t like it, don’t delete it, just put it down for awhile and come back to it later. Again Mesmer is an amazing thing at high levels. and once you get there you can rebuild and experiment with things to find where it is you want to be and what it is you want to do.

Was totally going to link that one haha.

That being said; I myself played from lvl 1 to way beyond lvl 80 as a condition Mesmer with staff (and sword/focus as offhand for special purposes).
