Hi, so recently I’ve started to raid for my guild, I currently have 4 80s and yet to be satisfied with a class. I played my longbow ranger, nice getting crits with rapid fire, but after that you basically do no damage(which i noticed in the raid tonight) My guardian was alright, can’t say I’m a fan of melee characters, I enjoyed leveling him, but something just felt lacking. As for my thief, somehow I thought they were gonna be good in raids, not much to say here, brings only dps but super squish. My engineer was fun, but swapping between 4 kits was just to overwhelming for me. I did level a char warrior back in 2013, which I had an absolute blast because they’re monster dps, however I’ve heard very bad things about warrior in HoT. Anyways, now that I somewhat explained what i’ve played. ( I SAID SOMEWHAT) I’m curious as to what you all think would be viable for raids, and don’t give me that crap that everything is viable because when you get later into the raid it does become very dependent on what you play, including mechanics.

Anyways, here’s my questions.

1) What is a strong dps, while not being cut down so fast? A.K.A has some sort of sustain so the healer doesn’t have to babysit you.

2) Would going 100% tank guardian be viable? All toughness and vitality and just tank the boss?

3) My playstyle is doing good damage, but being able to sustain and provide some kind of support for your raid members if its needed.

Everything kinda screams Revenant for me. Good dps, pulsing boons, decent sustain.

Everything is viable. Well, mostly… Anet have stuck a stupid time gate here, there, and everywhere, which means some builds aren’t for each class. There is also the community’s hunger for the “perfect” meta to contend with. That GW2 is allegedly not a Holy Trinity game (Tank / Healer / DPS) hasn’t actually altered anything.

The community still screams. “Need X!!!” Whether that’s condi Eng, or Zerk / Viper / whatever / whichever class… I think asking on the forum is not your best course of action. I don’t say it’s a bad choice; I’m sure you’ll get some suggestions that will get you thinking (have you tried out Druid on your Ranger, frex).

What you need to do is experiment with your class builds in PvE. Find out something new about them, maybe you’ll find something that makes you go “Wow!” Personally, Eng is my main, and I love kits. But then I’ve long since had all the original classes at the cap (notorious multi-alter, me!). It sound to me as though you want one “perfect” build, rather than wanting to find different ways to make things work as I do (no criticism implied; it’s just a different way to enjoy a game!).

Experiment in PvE. And talk to your guild. After all, we in the wider community can’t know what classes & builds your guild runs. I’m sure you’ll get some food for thought from this thread, but your best resource is those closest to you – they know what they’re running, and will have better suggestions as to how you can tweak things, I suspect.

I play a mesmer/chronomancer with marauder gear, ogre runes, a few might sigils and power sigils and zerker/marauder trinket. I do most of the healing myself by having enough clones out for f4, timing my f5, staying in my wells and spamming my heal well. With the might I generate I can easily do 7k dps. I can also share it very easily.

You can also play a tank mesmer. Sounds weird? Let me explain. With a good support and build you can have the stats you can take the damage very easily. Might be worse than some other classes but for the first boss mesmer can get perma quickness. This means it’s very easy to kite the boss around the area which is very usefull for the fight.

You put down a lot of clones and phantasm you shatter. Drop down all the wells you can get and stand inside them. Also use your weapons wich in combination with the right crit sigils can do a lot of fun things for your damage. For the support you have one of the best ults, your time warp. You are also the only class that can provide alacrity and you don’t even have to go out of your way to do so. You can generate a ton of might and share it and if you plan on doing PvP you will be a star if it comes to boon stripping. You can play tank, condi, dps or support so restrictions on that.

TL;DR
Give mesmer/chronomancer a try. It has a lot of potential if you play it enough. Be however prepared to busy because you need to focus on a lot of cooldowns at the same time (weapon, wells, shatters) since allacrity can mess with that a lot.

P.S. Any questions about mesmer/chronomancer, message me. I’m not claiming that have a ton of experience or a that I’m a mesmer/chronomancer expert but I do try to main it and I’m having a blast doing so.

1) Zerker Revenenants, Condi Engineer or Condi Warrior. Those three can be usefull in all 3 fights, can good dps, good surviability.

2) Well if by full tank with Vitality, Toughness you mean full Soldier then no. It will work, but that’s not the best setup IMO. A mix of Soldier and Zerker, or maybe some knight would be better. It really depend on the tank and his group. For exemple if you have a Healer druid in magi gear, you can just take some toughness to tank the boss and go with a decend dps, but if you have a zerker druid, you might want more surviability. A good compromise is full celestial. This give decent dps, while giving a good amount of surviability. You won’t need much help from a healer in that gear. Keep in mind that a Tank Guardian is good in the 1st and 2nd boss, but not for the 3rd boss. But for the third boss you could go zerker Dragonhunter.

3) Revenants is probably the best then. They are one of the best dps, while giving fury and might to his group. He also usually bring a staff for breakbar. I don’t see much group that doesn’t use at least 2 Heralds in each of the 3 bosses, so you wouldn’t need to change to different gear or build for different boss like other profession. Chronomancer is another good choice. It’s have a surprisingly high survivability for a light armor because of all the invulnerability, bring decent dps (not as high as herald), and are incredible for the support because of quickness and alacrity.

Five revenant, two druids, two engineers, and a necro should work. Or you could switch out one engineer with a guardian so any of those.

Great DPS, tons of survivability in zerkers, gives out tons of boons, high demand in raids.

Also condi engineer and cavalier tank reaper are pretty great.

Sounds like you want a Mesmer. Everyone loves Mesmers or hates them, go cry in a corner Warriors, and now they can do the Time Warp twice in a row (one of the strongest elite skills in the game) with Chonomancer they are a staple for raids.
