Hello GW2 players,

Well I’ve actually grown to the point where most MMORPG seems repetitive and boring.

I’ve researched for over 20 hours and came to a conclusion I would buy and invest time in Guild Wars 2 over other games (e.g. WoW, Tera, Rift). The reason is in YouTube videos it seemed pretty appealing (especially WvW) and, read tons of articles/reviews positive and negative ones.

I’ve played WoW & Tera already and they seemed okay but not fun. The most recent WoW I have yet to play, but the monthly subscription thing and all that million subscriber loss turned me off. I’ve also checked the gameplay of each game. I liked the WvW system in GW2, which I’m not so sure if other MMOs have them.

At the moment, I’ve been staring at the computer and watching some videos while downloading GW2. I was researching builds, classes, races, etc.

I came to two different classes: Guardian or Thief;
as for the world I think it was called BlackGate,
as for the race I will most likely choose Human.

The only MMO I enjoyed was Dragon Nest but, it seemed like I was grinding too hard but I liked their PvP feature.

I’ve never tried WvW, so I’m looking forward to it here. Do you guys think I’ll have a fun time? Also, do you guys think the playerbase will keep increasing?

I’ve read that their end-game at the moment is not completed, that there will still be constant updates.

Regards,
Syfaea

Hard questions. Lots of people do have fun…some don’t. It doesn’t feel like other MMOs to me, but other people have different experiences. I do like WvW though. It’s a lot of fun. I even like SPvP in this game and never expected to. I usually don’t like most PvP.

The end game isn’t completed but there’s still stuff to do. There’s also monthly patch releases each and every month. They vary greatly in both the amount and quality of content. The one in Southsun that’s going on now is quite fun. I’m particularly enjoying the minigame crab toss.

Anyway, you’ll find out yourself soon enough.

Yeah, looking forward to it. I have yet to play a breathtaking MMORPG, hopefully this will be as great as the reviews were describing it as. Many people has commented that this game doesn’t have as much grinding in like one area that there are constant things to do which makes this game more fun than other MMORPGs.

EDIT: What do you guys think about my choice for race/class/world as a starter?

Human is great, busiest starter area in the game.

Thief or Guardian – both are excellent choices. You can try a fully geared max level character by going into the Heart of the Mists (crossed sword icon) where you are upleveled and have free access to all the gear/runes/abilities to see which playstyle you like better.

Blackgate is a Tier 1 server so should be great.

Welcome to the party – you’re in for quite a ride

Thanks for sharing

P.S. Stuck at 99% (1 File Left) I’m guessing I just need to wait although its at 0 kb/ sec.

I think if you take the time to enjoy all the aspects of the game PvE, personal story, exploring, map completions you will enjoy it. There are a lot of neat things to find and see. Vistas, jump puzzles, high dives into lakes, NPC interaction and so forth. If you jump in and just race to level cap as fast as you can then you will probably miss out on a lot of what I consider the more enjoyable features of the game.

I don’t have anything against cap rushers because everyone is welcome to decide how they want to play the game. I simply prefer to enjoy all of the features of the game.

Yes I have seen several posts on this in the tech support forums. The consensues seems to be to wait it out. I’ve heard anywhere from 10 minutes to over night. Hopefully it doesn’t take you that long.

If it still has problems you should submit a ticket.

Welcome to GW2 and I hope you enjoy the game.

You’ll enjoy WvW more at max level, where thieves won’t one-shot you. Stay with the safety of the zerg and you’ll be okay, but I recommend leveling to at least level 30 in PvE first so you have access to all of your skills. Lastly, I think the game’s playerbase size will hold mostly constant for a good while yet. F2P will always attract new customers, and leaving players can always come back down the road at no cost to themselves.

Yeah those are top servers, so they’re always very full and have long WvW queues. I recommend a lower server in T4 or T5 because those have just as active WvW communities, but fewer queues and more friendlier and home-like environments. If you’re australlian or around that time, I’d recommend Sea of Sorrows, but otherwise things like Stormbluff Isle, Crystal Desert, and Ehmry Bay are all good candidates.
