Helping guilds with missions has no reward?
Have to rep the guild to get the commendations and maybe the items too
Nine Divines (ND)
Sorrow’s Furnace
This is working as intended. For people not representing the guild, it only counts as a regular dynamic event.
Apparently this is the case. Just learned about it today and it is so upsetting. Why do we not get commendations to spend on the new items for helping? How are you suppose to attract people to help you complete the missions without appropriate rewards for those not in the guild?
Large and small guilds are effected by this. Small because they cannot rally people to help and the large because if you cannot make the times set for the event to go off you get no commendations. So essentially you could be in a huge guild that runs the events regularly but never see a commendation because of your schedule. Small guilds may be left to fail the missions because no one wants to help. This needs to be looked at.
MY experience
1. Represented guild and bought influence until we could do the Guild missions
2. Guested on that Guilds server (My home is JQ, and I guested to this guild’s server which is not JQ)
3. Participated in Event
4. Only got credit for a Dynamic Event (relating to the guild mission)
Is this working correctly? Do I need to rep the guild & have the same home server?
or
Is this a bug that got fixed and I just missed out since I was an early adopter?

I’ve heard quite a few disappointing things about the guild missions, but this is the worst. The worst.
Sorrows Furnace
No items either so you don’t get the chance at a precursor

It would be nice to know if this intentional or not.
Well, I can safely say I’ll never help a random guild earn their rewards if I’m not also sharing of them. If that’s the attitude ANet wants to foster, then this implementation makes sense.

That will be the attitude seen through out I am afraid.. Why should I rush over to an event and just get what I would from a normal DE? No one will. This really really needs to be addressed

Umm, guesting may not work correctly due to how guilds get different upgrade records per server. I recall reading that once.
Yeah, I just can’t see the motivation in helping guilds with their events if all I’m going to get is more karma that I can’t spend on anything useful.
Well, it’s only logical that if you don’t contribute to a guild’s ability to start events, you don’t get to leech the special rewards it comes with.
This is medium and large guild exclusive content, which means it is designed for members of guilds that have a certain size(or influence income rather). You could apply for the guild if you want to be part of them, help without expecting a reward, or stay the heck out of their way.
You decide how you play the game!

Not anymore…..

In itself, this is fair.

This is not fair, however, because the rewards are vastly superior to anything a small guild can achieve. Why should a playstyle choice be rewarded over another, equally viable playstyle?
You decide how you play the game!
I choose how to play the game, and I see that my choice is rewarded with paying 40 laurels and 50 Globs of Ectoplasm for an Ascended accessory, rather than completing 6 Guild Bounties (for 3 gold and 12 commendations) plus paying 2 more gold for the same Ascended accessory. I also see that my choice comes at a cost of not enjoying the increased chance of earning Legendary Precursors as a mission reward.
Apparently, my choice is a poor one in terms of rewards.
Apparently, my way of having fun is less worthy of loot.
Apparently, this game is not fair.

You mean “oh my god how are we losing that much ground again this week and it’s only day one?” WvW? You mean the “son of a karka I need Stonemist still” WvW?
Yeah . . . Fair is not necessarily part of the game by default.
Yeah . . .
Fair is not necessarily part of the game by default.
Clearly, it’s not default, so could we please get a toggle option in Settings?

Actually, I was referring to the horrible loot you get in WvW. WvW is a giant gold sink it costs FAR more than it gives out.
Here is a hilarious example of what I mean:

Does anyone even have the new guild missions unlocked yet? I thought it takes 3 days to unlock.
Was it possible to speed it up and have it unlocked last night?
Yeah pretty sure some guild out there sped it up and started it…Anet was telling people in forums that it was broken and warning people not to speed it up until it was fixed.

Yes. And it was done so. And someone even sped up the start of a Bounty and had it bug up on them.
Praise their sacrifice of Influence that the bug was squashed :P
Cool.. did not know that anyone had started them. Nice to know. I’ll wait the 72 hours out.
Yep. In a small guild? Too bad.

Wow, should have expected such a genius design by arena net -.- now its extra fun to be on a server with only smallish guilds lol.
the reward is FUN ok? FUN! arenanet awards you with FUN!
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
…That’s stupid.

why would you get rewards for your guild when helping a different guild? That makes no sense at all.

You know what else doesn’t make sense? The cost of unlocking guild missions, especially if you’re in a guild with less than 20 people.

Well commendations are personal currency- merits are for the guild. I am pretty sure it was understood that merits would only be earned by the guild that started the event.
Also even if you are in a large guild and cannot make it to the event when the guild starts it you have no other ways of getting the currency you lost out on. This is not just a small guild issue.
Small guilds will not have enough people show for their events to complete them because of lack of reward.
Commendations should be earned by everyone that participates in the event. It should not be treated as a normal DE for participation. If they want to rally people to help the rewards need to be there.
So why the heck can guilds even BE cross-server, if any members on different home servers than the one the mission gets started on get NOTHING even when Repping and guesting? There is no upside to having members in different servers, only negatives!
Being a cross server guild already splits Influence and upgrades, and now even mission participation is ruined for those who for whatever reason are on a different realm. At first glance this system of allowing people to guild cross-server and guest freely appears to be a benefit, but in reality it’s a hidden handicap for everyone involved.

You are allowed so you can still be part of guild chat. But yeah not having the perks on every server for the guild seems kinda crappy.
It’s like they’re shifting back to the old mob tagging system, rather than their loot for everyone system.
There should have been a cap on daily influence gains from participation and it should have been balanced around 10-20 player guilds, since that’s the typical raid size. Not sure why they’d go with zerg guilds being the norm, but they do like to reward zerging after all.

Why’s that? More people contributing should help. Sounds logical to me.

Why? Because for those of us who don’t want to join a huge guild, and/or don’t have the time to dedicate ourselves to the game as much as others, it means we’re marginalized and effectively locked out of Guild Mission content. At the rate my tight-knit 5-man guild is going, we’ll see Guild Missions in late 2015.
