Hi, I need some help. (This is entirely opinion based. If you get easily aggravated by other people’s opinions I suggest leaving this thread.)

I want exotic gear so I can compete in WvWvW. The stats I am looking for is toughness/precision/power. Looking at the gear vendors I notice that Sorrows Embrace has my fav toughness/precision/power gear. However my favourite dungeon is ascalonian catacombs but the gear from those tokens doesn’t offer the stats I want. It just so happens that Sorrows Embrace is my least favourite dungeon. I want to do all the dungeons but I feel like I should only do Sorrows Embrace to get the stats I want. I would much rather enjoy my gameplay and do all the dungeons and mix it up a bit than farm one dungeon over and over. To be honest each explore mode is enough for me.

I don’t like doing events (aka quests) because they remind me to much of WoW. Filling up a bar rather than filling a 0/10 number or just escorting/protecting. It’s nothing more than boring to me so I cannot get the Orr gear. Even tho they don’t offer the stats I want.

I don’t like farming gold, so I am essentially poor. I cannot afford Exotics and I don’t find farming materials for exotics fun.

My most favourite and fun part of the game is dungeons. But my experience is ruined if I have to farm one dungeon over and over or more than 3 times in different explores.

I have therefore come to the conclusion that I will stop playing this game because the part I enjoy the most (gear progression and dungeons) is pretty much torn between the two. I can either do all the dungeons and have a blast or do one dungeon and be miserably bored but in the end be extremely happy with my new gears.

That’s my problem.

Going to miss this game.

Edit: I did see the part where you said you don’t have the money to buy the exotics. I didn’t find the prices to be steep at all – I was able to cover the cost of the gear just from wvw. However, if you’re having a hard time finding the money and aren’t enjoying the game, I understand your view and wish you the best.

Original post:

Check the TP, I think you can buy exotic level 80 gear with the stats you want. Type “knight’s” into the search box, and use any filters that help you narrow down the piece you want.

I use the same stats on one set of my gear, and like you, didn’t enjoy the dungeon that sold that stat combo armor.

I made 4 gold yesterday doing 3 dungeon paths. So if you like dungeons, you should have no problem covering the basics for your amor.

That being said, you can buy the runes from the token vendors. So if you like armor A for the looks and B for the stats, but you don’t like dungeon B, you can run dungeon A more often for the tokens for the looks, and B less often to collect the runes only (120 tokens = 2 runs per rune).

If you don’t want to run dungeon B at all, you could see what other superior rune has similar stats to the one you want and buy them on the TP. For example, if you want condition damage and vitality, you could consider the Superior Rune of the Necromancer, which is 15 silver on the TP. While doing dungeon A, you should collect plenty of money to buy the runes you want.

Mix and match There is a lot of freedom in this game in creating the exact armor with the looks and stats that you prefer.

I was feeling squeezed before fractals, now I feel like I have to do dungeons or else.

You get so much more money, and all the best looking gear.

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

Well the game is all about freedom of choice and you could just choose to do what you have fun doing but if you choose to rather leave cant stop you from doing that after all it is your freedom to do soo I hate dungeons but if I want the Legendary I will have to tolerate some grind after all if its worth having its worth working for such is life

You should just run nothing but AC over and over again, 3 paths a day. With a good efficient group you can do all 3 paths in under 2 hours, and earn ~2-3 gold if you do the gold graveling mobs that drop 5 silver each, do kohler when troll spawns, etc.

On top of the gold, you should have AC tokens. Purchase AC gear with them, and salvage them for ectos. Sell for even more money.

Then use the money to buy exotics from TP! You should be able to purchase like a piece in 2 days.

Yeah, I’m sure it doesn’t need to be said but crafting a game for the public in general that will please every individual member of that public 100% of the time is impossible. I mean really impossible. Like liertally there is NO POOSIBLE WAY it can occur.

It seems you’ve just about considered any possible way you could proceed and short of somehow getting the exact set you want with the exact stats by doing the one dungeon / game activity in the time you’d like to invest, there is no way you’ll continue the game. I can’t help but feel you aren’t giving it a fair shot or at least not a fair effort you’d give to a game that you’d otherwise like to continue playing.

As outlined above you could always participate in runs through the dungeons you do enjoy (DE’s, general farming, WvW tokens out of the question too?), and simply flip your rewards for cash and buy a set (or possibly train to craft one for yourself), and the Runes / Sigils you find best suiting to your character build.

In all honesty though, if you despise pretty much any PvE outside of certain dungeons you like, not sure how you feel about WvW / PvP but regardless, this game, pretty much all MMOs, and well a lot of video games in general just aren’t your cup of tea it doesn’t sound like.

Long story short, if you want and will only accept that specific dungeon’s armor set but won’t run the dungeon to get it then yeah, answer’s pretty obvious here. If however you could find a way to gain money in a way you find acceptable (farming the dungeons you do like I guess?) you can easily get an exotic set with the exact stats you’re looking for. Honestly you’re probably going to need to farm for materials since you won’t do anything to gain money but well, you also won’t farm so um…. Ya know, seriously, whay are you playing this game? You like playing some of their dungeons but pretty well hate every other aspect of the game? In all honestly, if I were you I’d find a liesure activity that I actually enjoy or at least be wondering why I put time into playing this game that I enjoy so little relatively. Maybe try fishing? Some volunter work? Sculpting?

Best of luck to you either way friend. If all you’re getting from this game is a few dungeons you like you’re bound to hit a wall where your character’s progression will be stopped cold though and the ‘fun factor’ is only gonna start dwindling down even faster from there.

He has a point, though. Getting dungeon sets is a thankless grind. I gave up on it because of the clunky tokens taking up space, the endless LFG for anything that wasn’t TA or AC and the forced repetition

Give me game. Not grind, not gating, not RNG, not +stat junk, not checklists.

I’ve had this complaint about stat gear available only through certain paths since before launch because I have no intention of ever running dungeons without a decent dungeon finder, and even if I did, I probably wouldn’t like any of them enough to get full sets of gear out of it.

Hopefully in the future there will be other ways to get gear with the exact stats we desire, meanwhile, I choose to level alts and not even bother with exotic gear, WvW (where I spent many painful hours finding out that, no matter how fun it is, gear does matter in the end), or any other group content.

Eventually if I play long enough, unless they’ve completely destroyed open world PVE drop rates, I’ll probably end up with enough gold/mats/whatever to pretty much do what I want, but compared to dungeon hamsters, I do feel like a peasant. Not as bad as in other games, though, I have to say that.

basically you are saying that you don’t like to play the game, except an occasional dungeon here and there, and yet want to get full exotic gear? …

dungeon gear is for looks, that’s why it is expensive. dungeon gear stats are quite horrible,
you can get exotic gear from various sources…
1) via crafting
2) via completing maps (when you finish maps level 70 to 80 you get one or two exotic pieces of gear)
3) eating MF food and waiting for it to drop from mobs during event
4) eating MF food and waiting for it to drop from enemy players during WWW
5) buying for dirty cheap from the action house (except berserker, cause all the noobs buy berserker… )

ascended items is a totally different game….

…. Thankless Grind?

Every day I look at my TA full armor set I say it’s worth those…

Those…

Those blossoms.

shudders

Anyway. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. You play what is fun for you and if it’s not fun, you take a break and play something else.

They -have- stated that revamping dungeons to be more fun is their next big project, so keep an eye out for it.

Karma gear has become so easy to get now with the daily and monthly raining karma jugs all over you. Collect them during a month, quaff a karma booster and then all the jugs and you get 337500 karma in one month, not even counting all the karma you get off the 5 daily events during those 30-ish game days.

337500 karma is more than enough for a full temple set. And it won’t cost you 1 copper.

Anyway, there are many ways to get exotic armor sets: dungeon gear, karma gear from dailies/monthlies, buy gear off TP (go gold farming or play the TP), be lucky with drops or craft them yourself. But you got to invest some way or another. You just pick the method you like most or mix and mash, nobody dictates that all armor parts are of 1 set.

Im not sure if you can transmute exotics, but…

Cant you just get both sets of gear and then use transmutation stones to transfer the stats to the set you want to display? or can you not transmute exotics?

I make a gold or more doing a single dungeon run. People that craft exotics tend to sell them cheaper than they ought to and their stats match those that you can get for karma or dungeon tokens. In WvW most of the players are level 40s – 60s leveling, so even without exotics you should do just fine, so if you want to go WvW go ahead I leveled from 40 to 60 there on my elementalist with not the best gear and yet did okay. When it comes to gearing up I did not have much of a problem, because when I level a character I tend to take the armoring profession that I’ll need for that character later and craft my own gear. Both for my ele and necro it took me about 2 days to earn enough money to buy enough ecto to make myself armor. Relax, enjoy, have fun in the game and don’t think too much about your money. If you just play it to dungeon run of WvW eventually you’ll have enough for a set. If you’re not a heavy player it might take up to 2 weeks, but you’ll get there. Normally full gear would cost 10 to 15 gold if you buy it crafted or are crafting yourself. So 15 dungeon runs?

No, I never said I play dungeons here and there. I said it was my favourite part. But the experience is ruined by repetition. I want to invest the exact same amount of TIME and EFFORT as it would take to spam farm one dungeon for gear with the stats I like but rather do it over all the dungeons and mix it up a bit for a more enjoyable experience rather than a relentless grind.

I hope you understand. Alot of people usually respond the same way as you do. Just seems… a bit ignorant.

I understand how ppl can find some of the dungeons boring to do over and over again (it takes about 20 paths in the same dungeon to get a full armor set and that does not include weapons) but dungeon armor is really more about a unique armor skin (=looks) than useful stats. I strongly suggest getting armour pieces with the desired stats any other way (karma temple gear, trade post, craft them) and just do the dungeon runs you want to get the armour skins you desire (if any). Because yes, you CAN transmute exotics, you just need fine transmutation stones in stead of regular onces.

Fine transmutation stones can be obtained through Black lions chests, zone completions, personal story steps or bought in the gem store.

As said before, getting exotic armour can be done in many ways, if you mix and match it won’t even feel like a grind at all (all 3 paths of 1 dungeon equals 180+ tokens equals one of the cheaper armour parts in one day (gloves or pants)).

If you DO want a full set of one dungeon, surprise surprise… you’ll have to repeat that dungeon for a while. Would be unlogical if you got your Ascalonian Catacombs gear by doing Arah and Twilight Arbor. If you consider your dungeon gear as being crafted from rare, dungeon-specific artifacts, it won’t feel as story-breaking.

I’d back up a step to the first part of the top post.

You want armor so you can wvw. Well, you’ll do fine there with whatever gear you already have. Seriously. And maybe pick up some Invader’s Armor while you’re there, plus you’ll earn buckets full of karma, just playing wvw.

you can make a lot of money running all those dungeons, you should have enough money just running various dungeons. If you are not crafting, sell the mats. ever few dungeons or so you should have enough money for knight’s gear. If you run dungeons a lot how can you be “poor”?!.

Yes run multiple dungeons, it will take longer to get a set of gear but so what.

you should make at least 1 gold from one path of a dungeon. If you get rares/exotics salvage them with the best kit you have, get ectos, sell ectos which is even more moneys.

you will have the Knigh’s stat armor…. as for cosmetics take how ever long it takes.

I don’t understand.
You said you like dungeons the most, but rather only do ac?
You don’t like gold farming, so you’re poor.

It sounds like the only solution to your personal problem is that Anet will allow a form of converting tokens of 1 dungeon into those of another, isn’t it?

I don’t see farming the same thing, however repetitive as it may be, as a negative thing.
Other RPG’s have the same problem.
WoW, for example, doesn’t have all gear slots covered by vendors, so you must farm to get that piece you want, and in many cases lose it to a ninja looter.

GW2 has a different system, and crafting/map completion/vendor/tp allows you to get what you want.
I say go for it.

Also, try to go FoTM, it’s a nice instance and the increasing difficulty adds to the interest and challenge of sequential runs.

Ok, let me see if I got this:

1) Your favorite part is dungeons but you don’t like doing them over and over.

That is how dungeons work, period, end of story.
So, what you are saying is that you really don’t like dungeons.

2) You want Exotics for WvW.

You want Dungeon gear – you run dungeons.
You want PvP gear – play SPvP.
You want WvW gear – go play WvW.
Actually – you want Legendary gear for WvW (it’s the best in class now)

3) You don’t like doing events

OK, whatever…

The simple answer to all your problems is this:

GO PLAY WvW!
EARN KARMA AND COINS and use them to
GET WvW GEAR!

Have fun, I guess.

I see a lot of you jumping on Jordan but I think his complaint is legit.

He doesn’t just want to do AC, he wants to do them all but feel he is being forced into doing Sorrows because its the only source of gear with the stats he wants.

The easy solution would be to have dungeons give a universal token instead of a dungeon specific token.

Dungeons are a grind. Period. Those tokens are a mother kittening grind. Dungeons are probably the sucky-est thing about GW2. The mechanics have no reason. I like difficult things. What I don’t like is things being difficult because they were poorly thought out. It’s not purposeful challenge. It’s more like “hey lets do some kittened up kitten and see if they can still make it out”. I want to see the developers run one dungeon, and show everyone how it’s intended to be done.

As someone stated before I have a full set from Twilight Arbor. When I finished, I wasn’t even happy. I was relieved. I felt like Shawnshank Redemption after Andy Dufrense climbed out the sewage.

A full set is what 1000+ tokens? 60-180 tokens a run (given the nature of your party)? Toiling through map chat spamming LFG? Why did they even introduce the token penalty for spamming a dungeon? ~dry heave~

I’d hang my in game self before I ever go back there.
