Hero Points useless?
Save them for the next elite spec.

Didn’t realize there was talk of Anet introducing additional elite specs.

Yeah they developed the new trait system mostly because they wanted to be able to add new skills and traits to the game through the elite spec system. So we know there’ll be more in the future

Yes, more will be coming…. soon™

Well they didn’t exactly say they were going to add more but it was more along of lines of “elite specs do not have to be part of something like an expansion, we can also add them as part of something like an LS release”
They also said the reason they removed stats from trait lines was so they could keep adding more, and the reason elite specs will only go into the bottom slot is so you can only use 1 at a time.
Which would be fairly pointless if they weren’t planning to add more.

Yah. They did. It was easy to miss though. It was a remark in one of the blog posts and maybe a remark here or there elsewhere.
For now, characters will only be able to equip a single elite specialization. Doing so will be as easy as it currently is to swap trait points; simply exit combat and select your new elite specialization, or do it in Heart of the Mists for PvP. We made this system to build upon it, so let the speculation about future specializations begin before we’ve even revealed the first full set!
Notice they also said:
“For now, characters will only be able to equip a single elite specialization”
Comment: !!!!!!
ANet may give it to you.
The fact that there will be more elite specs later was like the MOST obvious thing about them when they were even first announced
I was told, though I don’t know of a source so take this with a grain of salt, that they want to have 3 elite specializations before the second expansion, whenever that will be, including the first set we already have. If they keep to 2 seasons before each paid release then it’d be an elite specialization set per season/expansion.
And such would be easily maintained if they continue adding 2 maps per season andh having each hero challenge give 10 points, with 14+ hero challenges across all four maps.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Back when elite specs was 400 points, people complain they don’t have enough points to max out the elite specs. When the made it it 250 points people complain they have useless extra points.
Anet simply can’t satisfy everyone , can they ? What do you guys want actually ?
Archeage = Farmville with PK
The reason there are extra hero points in the new system is the same reason there are more hero points than you need in core now. It’s so you’re not forced to collect all of them to finish a spec, and that choosing to go above and beyond gives you a head start on later specs.
This is the reason tehy changed core hero points to be basically not at all required to finish all core specs, as it’s a “leg up” while leveling now. It’s also why there are more HoT hero points than you need. So that you don’t NEED that last HP locked behind a map meta or L5 mastry or whatever to finish the spec, but if you go for them then you’ll be less reliant on new map HPs to get what you’re after.
Eventually, once that system expands to 3+ elite specs, you’ll have a massive number of options fort how to approach a given build post-80, since you can’t technically use, and thus don’t need more than one elite spec at a time, you’ll have tons of ignorable HPs, often enough to fully level a new spec on release if you skip a spec you know you won’t want.

The reason folks complained at first was that they couldn’t get the elite specs right away. It was a silly complaint, really, as folks had the (imo at least) unrealistic expectation that they would be able to max out their elite specs from just the central tyria mapping hero points, without having to do any such work in the HoT maps.
There was always a complaint that we had useless hero points, since they implemented the latest redesign of the trait system.

The next elite spec will cost 2500 skill points to max, and the hero points in the next zones will give 100 points upon defeating a raid boss. Calling it now.

Whaat? No.
Well, maybe.
I was thinking closer to 625 skill points and 25 hero points per challenge. :P

Well, the whole point of the trait rework back in june is to add elite specs with hot and next release. Why otherwise it was critical to reduce the max number of selectable specs to 3? because in the future we’ll have many options ^^
Wat r u, casul?

Way too easy and not gw2 like.
All hero points on the map are unlocked by 2 hours long meta event. When meta is complete you have 5 minutes to get hero points before you get kicked out to the empty map. You can not rejoin your map if you had a dc.

More like all hero points on the map are now replaced by a collection that needs among other things 250 cubic meters of coarse sand, the equivalent of the rainforest in spirit wood logs and two chairs.
Well lets see if we can clarify this situation the Master Program stinks and their isn’t anything we can do about it. The original building system was the best and the circle one stinks as we all now that in a game situation you learn by experience. Hero points are next to useless unless you want to unlock skills but you really only need to unlock the skills that you really want to use you truly don’t need specializations (I have 12 level 80 characters and pretty much I’m still not finding a value for them and yes I’ve done them all). Enjoy the first game of Guildwars 2 and avoid HOT like the plague it is. They have tried these high numbers to force folks to learn skills in the past an oddly enough they are still getting the same response (check out the 4 million points required to max Magic Find). Perhaps when the fog is cleared they will actually consider reverting back to what worked. Drop the Master System as it is terrible to play, advance and just frankly useless not at all gamer friendly. They have lost the PVE gamers who have enjoyed questing, and dungeons (they nerfed the existing dungeons). The builds have yet to be fixed the way they promised that they would. Unless your a WVW or a PVP gamers tournament information is pointless and your probally not going to care about it. Twitch and feeds are useless as it just revert to rhetoric and boils down to Arena wanting to make money. So basically if your looking for changes perhaps next Winter they might get to it. Even then it won’t make a difference to the droves leaving or those that are here but have numerous accounts so Anent can count them more than once or the free accounts just tooling around. But if you like to spend money, run a melee class then your in the right spot.
Solution: figure out a way to give me your ‘useless’ hero points!
