Hero points.

I’d just like to thank all the people out there that complained about the high req for hero points. Had full Herald on day 2. Spent 20 hours farming hero points in central Tyria on day 1 so I could be a day 1 Herald. Thank you for wasting my time.
But congratz to anyone that actually was doing what I was and not whining about the high req.
Yes I’m whining but, I don’t care.
Feel the same way.
If the grind made you that bitter, it’s probably a good thing they changed it.

It’s not the grind.
It’s the fact our work is always devalued because of the people that don’t want to earn anything on this game.
You seem like you didn’t enjoy spending 20 hours farming hero points on day 1, because you consider that time wasted now.
Did you have fun? Was it really wasted if you enjoyed it, even if other people can do it quicker now?

I enjoyed it immensely.
I loved the challenge
I loved having something to work towards after so long of not having something to
I loved meeting new people and working together to get our elite specs
I still feel like all that was devalued
If the time was wasted then you were not enjoying yourself. If you were playing a game but not enjoying yourself then you were doing it wrong.
Umm….learn to play?
I don’t mean that in a manner that denigrates your skill in GW2. Rather, I am trying to point out that play is supposed to be fun and fun is not a waste of time.
You wasted your own time, and it’s not healthy to play that much.
It’s the fact our work is always devalued because of the people that don’t want to earn anything on this game.
Thank you. Took the words right out of my mouth.

It’s not about “earning” something. It’s about being able to use the new spec to do the new content, not getting it after all the new content is more or less done.

Ah, a video game libertarian was born. Truly an auspicious day.
On a serious, and less snarky note, your work… and by work I of course mean play… was not devalued, if you enjoyed it. If you didn’t enjoy it for its own intrinsic rewards, then you’re proving the point of those who thought 400 was a bit much. If you enjoyed it for its actual rewards (an elite spec), then your enjoyment is exactly the same as it was before, and you get to be happy to share that with others.
If neither of these are true, you wanted the elite spec to be a status symbol that you could show off to “those less beings”. In that case, go craft a legendary, go get a really big mastery number to show off… I don’t have much sympathy for you. Go lease a Porsche or something, if you need to prove your self worth by showing it off to others.
Really, you should just be happy that other people are happy. If you enjoyed the work, you have no reason to be bitter that others don’t have to do it.

There was no problem before. You unlocked the spec with leftover from map comp. Thus you got to play it regardless of it being incomplete or not.

I love when people like this try and take my comment and turn it around on me like this.
I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it because it was a challenge. Because it was a long goal.
That was the fun of it.
That was taken away.
Now I don’t get to enjoy that same goal on my other characters.
“Hurdur you can still do it just don’t learn it until 400”
That’s not a fix and is dumb.
Quit trying to turn what people say around on them.

I spent 20 hours grinding out a daredevil literally right before the update, and I’m still happy about the update.
You must not be doing it right.
OP you’re so cool and skillful how did you become such a great player?
If the grind made you that bitter, it’s probably a good thing they changed it.
This here
See, i cant understand this argument..
Right say a PvEr walked into this expansion straight away was released with 250 point requirements, now would u have Used the EXACT same amount of time to earn the Masteries for gliding / Updraft / Mushrooms, Doing the Storyline and Map Completion in the new lands.
if u farmed WvW, Wouldnt u of spent the exact same amount of time WvWing reguardless?.. as if ur a WvWer ur going to be attending it reguardless with or without a point, u’ve been doing it for 3 years at capped now why would u suddenly stop based on Reaching elite?…
U havnt actually wasted ANY TIME at all, u just waited a Extra Length before Using it in comparison to Players doing it now who’ll have it earlier then the actual grind that you go through on this expansion release.
If u felt the need to play the game Solidly and not leaving the screen for 20+ hours to have the Elite Instantly, that is WHY they reduced it, GW2 was never ment to be that, the idea of the lack of Vertical Grinds such as Gear farming etc etc was to prevent that happening.
and 1 days Work = hard work? Wut?….. u did what u’d do reguardless (new PvE lands / WvW) 250 or 400 points.. u’d still end up doin the rest to complete it and just holding the HPs anyway….
as much as i wasnt vocally asking for the reduction, nor did it bother me being 400, It was steep specially for a player who WvWs and maybe has Multiple proffessions to cater to their guilds better earning 400 points on Each character.
What Daryos say is exactly my point why this is positive.
I also spent a lot of time farming my elite spec for my ranger, and I have not enjoyed it too much, as it was “farming for the future, when I can go back to WvW”. And my ranger was 100% map complete.
What if then my guild needs a chronomancer? I have to take my 63% map mesmer and farm a lot more just to be able to fill that spot? Or even worse, a tempest that’s ~2% map complete and spend 1-2 months just to get my specialization?
(To make it clear, I like playing these 3 classes in WvW, so I don’t care which one of them i take)
From my point of view, to make it fair to WvW players they should do one of these:
- Decrease HP required (done). We’ll still need to farm for those with 1% map, yes, but it’s not that bad, specially if you have chars with 100% map.
- Make WvW HP coins account-bound, so at least while you are playing WvW you are also stocking up coins just-in-case you (or your team) needs to change to another class.
Overall I think it’s a great change. It fits better in the manifesto.
Now the question i have is now we’ll have many HP unused…. What do we do with them? Or just wait for another set of elite specializations?
Personally i had no issues with actual hero points as you get 10 from just one finished skill point in those new maps (as i generally love exploring and those new maps are interesting), but getting to them was rather annoying at times and more often those are blocked with masteries so that was only grind wall for me.
This is a huge game with a lot of moving parts trying to appeal to a lot of different people. It’s to be expected that some of us prefer a long journey and others want to get to our destination quickly, so we can do fun things there.
What confuses me is when people claim to enjoy the journey and then rush to finish. That strikes me as the worst of both extremes, whereas I think that ANet is really trying to strike a balance with the best of both worlds.
Why was there another topic made about this? I had Herald in 20 hours too, you don’t see me bragging about it and i love the fact that they reduced the cost.
(oh wait i just bragged didn’t i?)
I don’t even know why you would NOT want to have your elite spec unlocked sooner i just don’t understand people who complain when they have to work less…
It’s like your boss saying you get one day off a week while getting the same pay each month and then you complain about it (see how insane it sounds?).

Some people have jobs or other real-life things to do.
Sorry you feel your bragging rights (I’d use the ‘e’ word but that’d likely get this post removed) have gone, just accept no-one was impressed anyway.

I’m glad you assumed the OP doesn’t have a job or anything else outside of GW2. We all do.
And we still get things done in game. You don’t have any better excuse than we do. Maybe if you spent less time whining on the forums and more time playing you’d have been able to get them done.

Um so what because you decided to farm, because you decided you wanted to get your specialisation as fast as possible, suddenly ANet is at fault? Yeah seem legit.

I see, so you don’t like it when people waste your time huh?
That’s exactly how many of us felt about the 400 requirement… Don’t worry, though, you’ll still be able to use those precious hp in the future.
Out of curiosity, how many characters do you have?
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
I am so glad they lowered it to 250, now i can enjoy this game again and maybe get my alt an elite spec!

Don’t argue with idiots, they pull you down their level and own you with experience.
I also had to grind to get my mastery maxed out. Had a lot of fun doing it. I’m ok with the nerf. I want others to also have a lot of fun with their elite. Now I will have some points left over for the next elite.

If you feel your time was wasted that means you didn’t enjoy farming those hp’s. In this case you should be happy they lowered the amount required as your next character will take less time to get to spec you want, hence less ‘wasted time’.
If you enjoyed it, that means you would’ve finished all hp’s regardless if you need them for elite spec or not, in this case I fail to see how your time was wasted as you would’ve spent exact amount of time you spent originally.
If you wanted a challenge, you got it. Congratulations, you managed to get elite spec that previously required 400hp’s. You got your joy out of the task and should feel great! Why would feel your time was wasted ?
So if you are unhappy about ‘wasted time’ you should rejoice as they lowered the requirement for elite spec – no more wasted time for future characters!!

Anyone even consider that Arena Net developers/employees play the game themselves as well, took into consideration the amount of people complaining and/or reading peoples concerns elsewhere, decided themselves to see how/if it is balanced enough for ALL type of players and decided to tone it a little bit down?
Also for the people saying that they lost their time and effort of getting the 400 points needed: You have gotten them back, now you can go for your legendary crafting or something…
am I the only one that noticed one big whole in OP reasonings?
he claims to grind out hero point in central tyria to be day one herald….
but unlocking elite specialistion requires you at first max out all skills and specialisations from base profession and even then all of hero point in cetral tyria were not enought with 400 points requirement to have maxed elite spec – even with 250 requirement you’ll miss few points to max it out….
so how possibly his farming of core game hero points got devalued with lowering said requirement?

PvP ranking up was to difficult said people that didn’t want to grind it out.
WvW guard buffs were to difficult said people that didn’t want to grind it out.
Now 400 HP is to difficult said those that didn’t want to grind it out.
The removal of endgame for some is not right. I enjoy the grind it gives me a great feeling when the end reward is gotten. Not just handed to me on a silver platter.

Wasted time when I could of waited and just had it handed to me for next to no work at all.
Edit: Yes I do work 40 to 50 hours a week depending on if needed.

Kinda yeah. But, it’s mostly the whiners fault here. To lazy to do anything. Just like they have gotten rid of the fun in pvp ranking.

Amen seems like enough complaining and they’ll change anything
can we please start complaining on how hard it is to craft precursors so they’ll cut the required mats in half thanks
Remember that you’re going to need full Maguuma map completion for any of the new Heart of Thorns legendaries. Your work in unlocking all of the hero points isn’t truly wasted if you want any of the new or upcoming legendary weapons.
As for whether the change is warranted:
Honestly? 250 hero points is not a small amount of hero points if you haven’t done full central Tyria map completion (and newer players definitely have not). I had map completion, but a lot of people in my guild didn’t, so they couldn’t use their elite specs at all until they’d already fully explored Verdant Brink and Auric Basin, and even then, they were only half-unlocked. If you don’t have Tyria map completion, 250 hero points is still more than half of the hero point challenges in Heart of Thorns—that’s lower than before, but it’s a lot more achievable for the average player.
You have to remember, long-time players like us (I’ve played since the headstart weekend) who have map completion aren’t the entire playerbase. While 400 hero points wasn’t a ton for us because we had about a 200-point head start, many, many players didn’t have that.
It’s a difference in how people see the elite specs. Some people see them as a “reward” that we earn by (mostly) completing Heart of Thorns, and that’s a valid point of view. Others see them as an integral part of our characters that our characters are “incomplete” without—and that’s a valid point of view, too. Because there wasn’t a level cap increase or a new tier of gear, it felt jarring for some people to suddenly have to go out of their way and either grind WvW or beeline hero points to “re-complete” their characters. I can sympathize with that.
Obviously, I think this is a good change, especially because we’re still going to need all of the hero point challenges done in Maguuma for another thing in the game (HoT legendaries). Masteries are our long-term character progression, along with legendary weapons and armor, raid masteries, etc. Let elite specs be a new toy for us to use while we get those.
(edited by Agent Noun.7350)
Oh cmon, the OP just wanted to feel so elite for a few more days (in comparison to the pathetic casuals with no spec finished).
Neither he or the other whiner Unloveableone will admit it, so please save yourself all the trouble arguing with ridiculous arguments about wasting time or challenging goals (long term goals accomplished in 20 hours? please…). These are just a cover up for their broken wet dream.
Of course the change was positive to most of GW2 player base, especially those with lots of alts and non-pve players.
