I’m being dense and my Google-fu has become weak…

I have unspent HP’s and still more to obtain from HoT areas. Will these carry over and be usable in PoF?

I would assume so. Core HPs and HoT HPs fit the same slots, so I would assume the same would hold true for PoF.

The mastery track is new so any unused core or HoT MPs wouldn’t fit into PoF slots.

Hero points are character based and don’t rely on what area of the world you’re in like mastery points. So yes I would imagine.

Excelsior!

Oh, great, maybe I can shove my questions into this thread aswell.

Do you think the new content is gated?
I am not super duper interested in the new stuff right off the bat, but I am so slowly progressing, it’d be like I’d be able to play the new stuff in 2021 if it e.g. requires me to play through HOT first.

Luckily I am very pleased with Daredevil, but having it heavilly gated like in FF14 would screw me over a bit :S

I haven’t completed the first story because it requires me a premade team for that one dungeon (which I won’t get, I hate PuGs), so I basically jumped right into HoT back then and I am fine with that.

I hope upon hope that gating anything becomes a thing of the past!

I s’spose I’d better get to work on HP’s again :/

Content won’t be gated behind completing HoT. You don’t even need to have done the 1-80 quests (Which I haven’t ever done on any character, mind!) to jump right into PoF, as long as your character is level 80.

At this point, if you have 250 HPs in reserve, that seems like it will be enough to unlock everything in the new specialisations. While there isn’t any proof at the moment, the HoT specialisations all cost 250 HPs to unlock, so it stands to reason PoF will be the same.

PS: I agree. As much as I WANT to get into FFXIV.. I just can’t. Everytime there’s something it looks like I may enjoy – “Ooop, nope! You need to spend a month doing quests to get there!”

I’m not sure what dungeon you’re talking about, but nothing in any of the Story requires a team. At release the final mission of Personal Story did, but it has long since been changed to be a solo instance.

It will likely be like the HoT class, you won’t need to have mastered Daredevil to unlock Deadeye, but you will have to have mastered all the base traitlines first. You should also be able to skip right to the first new story chapter if you like, and you will probably need to do at least a few chapters of the story to unlock Mounts and the new maps, but if you want to save the new story until after you complete the HoT and LWs3 stuff then you could.

I have mastered Daredevil but I am just Level 21 (Hot Level sort things, whatevery they are called right now. The green sun thingy-level things) and I can glide, eat tasty speed-up mushrooms and talk to the other guys, but e.g. I can’t walk trough poison yet.

I hope I just can switch to PoF and start, then switch back to HoT.
The story is a bit messed up then, but I don’t mind. I mean, I don’t mind switching between Splinter Cell 3 and 1 despite some guys are dead in 3 etc.

It depends on how they’re planning to fix the mess they created with HoT. The original change to hero points was to remove the excess, but after some very poor decisions with HoT, they ended up doubling it. If they try again, elite specs will need to be back to 400+ points, with hero challenges in PoF worth 10+ points each. If they do nothing, people will unlock their elite specs the minute the expansion is launched. Alternatively, they may drop generic hero points and go with expansion-specific points or simply drop them entirely and unlock elites through the story.

They can’t go back to their original plan.

I think the core flaw with their original plan is that everything unlocks linearly, you were forced to max out your core traits (at that point I actually had hundreds of spare skillpoints because I’d hadn’t bothered to pick up traits and skills I didn’t need, and had intended to spend those on the HoT spec), and that you couldn’t get any Master traits until you’d purchased all the adept and several utilities, and none of the GM until you’d purchased all the Master and several more utilities, etc. This meant that until you had nearly completed the spec line, you were running half a class or less. That’s no fun at all.

What they should have done is allowed you to purchase each utility or trait ala carte, each with varying costs, so that you could prioritize the build you wanted most, choosing one adept, one master, and one GM trait, maybe a couple utilities you really wanted, and get going with a fully functional build when only 1/4-1/3 of the way through the total line. Then the goal becomes filling out that build, picking up the other abilities so that you have some flexibility in composition. That’s how players should have progressed. But with the way the system is designed, there was absolutely no way they could have forced players to get almost every HP available in HoT before they’d have that spec unlocked.

I personally think you should level-up your character (not as slow though) and then get your skills.

For people that play 100% solo, like me, I was pleased I could unlock Daredevil on my own. I would hate it to be massively gated.

They can’t go back to their original plan.

They could if they wanted to, and it’d be fairly simple, but I’m guessing they’ll try to avoid anything that looks like HoT. The original plan was to simply tone down the excess by bloating the requirements. If you had 100% world completion going into HoT, you were about 50% of the way through your elite spec at the start. They wanted your past progress to matter, but they didn’t want you to unlock it immediately because it’d remove that sense of progression. They can’t allow you to unlock the abilities individually or skip HoT’s elite spec for the same reason, since it would only further the excess. Since HoT isn’t required however, they can’t really control that without making it worse, so they’ll either need to move to something specific to the expansion, or simply let people unlock it right at the start. If they continue on with their original plan however, you could expect the elite spec to cost 800 points, with 20 (regular, solo) challenges worth 40 points each and loaded into the earlier maps for the best experience.

Remember, is it fun? To use the new specializations, why are you forced into an empty trait line? Why did they balance HoT so you wouldn’t fully unlock your specialization until the very end? How they balanced it for 100% world completion is how it should have been for everyone, where it’s fully unlocked halfway through the expansion. Traits need to be upfront and unlock early on at the very least. Considering how things went, I wouldn’t be surprised to see specialization trainers this time, like the original trait books. It could give a small story and unlock the base elite specialization including the traits at the same time. The abilities could be handled the same way to make it simple, or they could they switch to a PoF-version of hero points, which would essentially be the same thing (duel your trainer to learn a new skill).

For people that play 100% solo, like me, I was pleased I could unlock Daredevil on my own. I would hate it to be massively gated.

I’m guessing you didn’t see the original implementation? 40 hero challenges in HoT worth 10 points each = 400 total, which was the original amount required. Additionally, they wanted another 65 points to unlock your core skills, on top of what you got from leveling to 80.

Well, theoretically they could do anything they wanted. They could give everyone who doesn’t have a Legendary weapon a full set of them, and take away all Legendary weapons from people who already have them, it just wouldn’t be a good idea. My point was that they would get beat about the head if they tried it.

This.

My play style is very similar and gating would sting. I’m also hoping they will do HP rewards that give you ten (or more?) per, and, if course, to be soloable – I don’t mean just autoattack and stand still for the win though.
