Heroes for Dungeons only
you know, that’s actually a really interesting idea, letting the AI take control of characters that are on your account when you go into instances.
I’d actually go a little further and add it for any instanced content, such as personal story as well, which is already supposed to scale based upon the number of players involved.
Very cool idea and I would love for this feature. However, I highly doubt something like this is even on ANet’s radar as a new game feature. Even having henchmen/heroes like we did in GW1 would be absolutely amazing (even if it was just for dungeons and stories), but it would take a LOT of development time.
I said something like this months ago. I would love to see my alts appear somehow in the game like Mercenaries were in GW1. Even to be switched out in a new story mode, ex: if I have an alt in the Vigil, Durmand, Shadows, they could switch out the random member from their respective clan. Would feel overall more immersive.
They could probably do it for Henchmen/Heroes without too much difficulty for story mode dungeons since they all have NPCs in there anyway. Mercenaries, like we had in GW1 might be a little more problematic. I forget how old GW1 was by the time we got mercenaries, but it was a good few years, so I wouldn’t be looking for them anytime soon.

7 years…
I think it’s more difficult than you think. NPC’s in dungeons are relatively useless and die very easily. It would be very difficult for them to code Hero UI that worked well with the game and wasn’t coded to just magically avoid anything. There are a TON of 1-hit K.O attacks performed by bosses in dungeons, if you don’t dodge them you die. It would be a bit ridiculous if you could take heroes because they would either be coded to always dodge these attacks or they would die very very quickly and then you would die. It’s not as feasible as you think. In GW1 it was very feasible because it was a stationary spell casting game.
