Returning player here gone for about 15 months and have been playing for a month again now, so catch me up. I understand people getting Heroic Chests for awhile now for being in beta and having Digital Deluxe/Heroic Editions of the game. My question is: I pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe edition on day 1 the game went for sale. I have everything the DDE would award me so I know I have it. So where’s my chest?

If you didn’t participate in the HoT betas you won’t get a chest. They were awarded to people that did the beta due to an issue when they closed the beta and having to change an SKU number from one that is no longer used.

Right, I get that. I didn’t participate in the betas because I was a little late to the party for portals. Don’t I get a Heroic Chest for having DDE?

The heroic chest was given to players because of a bug, and ANet didn’t feel it was really worth their time to fix it, because it didn’t hurt anyone and made a bunch of people randomly happy.

Okay here is the deal. You already received everything that was promised with the edition you purchased. You even confirmed that in your OP. Since then newer versions of game editions were added with more perks, probably to attract new customers. For example the old DD edition was replaced with the current one with the items you find in the heroic chest. No one that had the old DD version got the new items.

Fast forward to the first beta, once it was closed beta participants that had the base game (before heroic came out) and people that had the old DD edition got the Heroic Chest. This was explained, very late in the day after it happened, as being due to having to replace old SKUs with the currently used ones (the current Heroic and DD SKUs) which in turn sent all the beta participants with the old SKUs chests.

Anyone with the old base game or the old DD version did not get a chest if they didn’t participate in Beta. I argued at one point it would be fair to everyone to go ahead and upgrade everyone that still had the old SKU but that didn’t happen. Maybe it will at some point when they have more beta events.

tl;dr: You got the items you paid for in the edition you purchased. If you were not fortunate enough to be in beta you don’t get the extra stuff. There are thousands of players with the original DD edition that are in the same spot.

I forgive you. Haha. It’s great though because I can explain it to people who have the same problem I do and hopefully one day (as nice it would be) Anet to upgrade to the newer SKUs.

It probably should be pointed out that the Heroic Chests were sent out to people with Digi Deluxe edition or better. I have the Collector’s Edition and still got my Heroic Chest(s) when they changed over the SKU.
