  • Healer : I just go to area’s on the map where NPC’s are always dead & respond within min’s. ( I did find that sometime’s when I was healing a NPC it didn’t count; not sure if it was a glitch or not )

I think it is a bug because I find that only about half of my rezzes count, I also get a lot of misses for instead of evades for dodger which does not count.

it actually promote you to tp everywhere on the map to get it done.
which is kitten.

dailies should be like an “event chain”, “mini quest”. not some random choirs.

This is what dailies were in GW. A specific boss hunt or mission. A small difference in accessibility is that you could reach lvl 20 in GW in a good day of play and just run (or buy a run) to the areas these things were at if you didn’t have them.

In GW2 the world is huge. And it takes a lot longer to get max level. So an event chain or mini quest would be out since not everyone could do it.

The nature of dailies are that they are just a superfluous thing that rewards you for completing specific activities. These can be completed by anyone, of any level, in nearly any zone.

There are already chains and events in the game, and most of them will complete the majority of your daily. Rikiti, Reactor, Plinx, Centaur Shaman, Shatterer Chain…the list goes on an on. Any escort event or any chain event will do. So just pick one and go do it.

Are gamers in general now so dependent on developer’s holding their hands and leading them along that they get totally lost in this because there isn’t a big icon on the map with flashing lights and an arrow that says “Daily here”?

If dailies are changing the way you play, then you are doing it wrong. They are something that should be completed as you are playing. If you have to aggro and dodge low level moa in a field because you can’t manage to dodge ten times in a dungeon or high level events with your guild while just playing the game…you are doing many things wrong.

then just give out dailies after you get x amount of xp.
simpler, and more natural.

if they put these little objective, its because they should be fun.
not stuff “you do along the way without noticing”, that would be xp.

are the current dailies “fun” ?
thats the question, and really, that probably all that matters.

When I want to do the dodge quickly, I just go agro 5 or 6 grawl (finishing slayer, so need them anyway). I was doing that the other day, just running around with the grawl circlin me, when a player came over and started attacking the group that I had laid claim to, MY GROUP! I grouped them together, they where all mine, no one else had any right to come near them! MINE, MINE MINE!. So I did the only thing I could with this evil player, I helped to kill the group off quickly, then the 2 of us took out the grawl champion in the area. Because of this player coming over where he was not wanted, instead of me running around in circles waiting for my dodge to recharge, I had to go fight a champion, finished my grawl slayer achivement, and got a lousy rare drop that I am going to have to force one of my alts to use since it’s better then anything he has. Completly ruined my day.

They are fun because they only require playing the game as the game is designed. If you are doing things to get XP, then you are doing things to complete the daily.

Fractals, dungeons, map completion, story, event chains, dragons, heart quests, crafting, unlocking skills, unlocking skill points, playing WvW…everything you could possibly be doing, other than sitting in down doing nothing, contributes to the daily.

You can’t say dailies aren’t fun, then suggest you get it for earning y amount of XP, because the things you are doing to get y amount of XP are the same things you would be doing to meet daily requirements!

This. There isn’t much else to say to it.

As a few others, and myself, mentioned, the daily healer is about the only thing that you might not simply come across in a short bit of normal play. And that’s only if your normal daily play is limited to a small area/single zone with few other players or NPCs. If you really have to go somewhere else to get your 10 revives, pick a location where your need for dead NPCs does not interfer with other players’ tasks. If you chose to do this in a reknown heart area, that is your fault for picking a stupid location.

While doing Shelter’s event in Cursed Shore there was some player afk near where a bunch of enemies spawned. Needless to say they were dead. In an effort to finish their daily revives, a few people kept reviving them and over time she was a naked player character with broken armor.

This new daily encourages people to do this. Kinda sad.

My husband logs on about 10 o’clock at night, sometimes past 11 PM. That’s his available free time during the week. Here’s the thing. The rest of our guild is not on at that time. He is not running dungeons, he is not out doing high level events with his guild. He does not WvW.

He is just trying to play the game the way he has enjoyed for the last 6 months, with the freedom to choose from among the diverse playstyles that were marketed as a selling point of the game. Without a developer forcing his hand in a particular direction. There are plenty of OTHER games that do that.

He is not playing “wrong”.

He does not need or want hand-holding.

He does not need the dev to help him unlearn how to play by forcing an unnatural evade mechanism which is often faulty in measurement (please see bewhatever’s post). He is quite capable of skillfully staying out of harm’s reach when we run explorables with only 4 of us on the weekends.

He’d like to go back to the freedom of having dailies occur as part of a normal course of play.

And he is just as concerned as I am about the negative impact on the community that these “unnatural” behaviors cause. Both in-game and on the boards. Especially from people making judgements about other’s playstyles being “wrong”, because there is lack of perception outside their own immediate experience.

Which goes full circle back to the call he and I, other guildmates and few other aware players have made regarding the use of “red team” (or focus group) before implementing new content.

Hopefully the much-awaited addition of daily choice will help alleviate some of the issues discussed on this thread and others.

How about you?

Had an incident this past week where someone had a character that was almost dead when I went in to help, basically told me to kitten off and leave the area because I hit their mob once. They were doing their dodge daily.

Four cases where I observed something similar happening to other players who ran in to help someone who had a veteran and 1-2 extra mobs on them.

Some folks are polite. Others aren’t.

Realize this is behavioral and therefore “outside” of ANet’s concerns, even though the potential consequences of this daily addition may lead to negatively impacting the much-vaunted “community-oriented” value.

It’s pretty obvious what is occuring when someone is soloing an (almost now widely extinct) Moa. (straightface). Other mobs, like veterans, not so much. Particularly combined with the veteran daily.

I’m curious, how many of you are going to be more cautious now? How many won’t let it stop them, and how many will take the opportunity to “grief”?

And how many of you will be polite when asking others to “back off”?

Personally I’d follow these people around tagging their mobs and getting their aggro.

Why is TPing around a big deal? I do it regularly anyway, no one else does? You all just play in one zone all the time?

Yeah, I really don’t get what people are expecting. We have a daily that encourages people to go to empty zones since they will will be more likely to have dead NPCs and then there are complaints that this doesn’t let people “play the way they want to play” (i.e. be able to do everything easily without leaving whatever zone they happen to be in at the time). Then at the same time we get complaints that certain zones are dead and there’s no reason to do anything but run meta events for chests and dungeons. There’s no winning.

It is kind of wierd. I like to go to lowbie zones and dodge centaur archers because they can’t really kill you… but it is actually really annoying if you’re kiting and dodging for a couple minutes and somebody runs up and kills your mob so you have to go find another one.

I think it’s more that the dodge achievement is kitten than anything else.

People who want to do daily dodges alone can enter a dungeon alone and do exactly that while no one can disturb them.
If they aren’t smart enough to do this and they do it in PvE it’s ok for you to do anything.
I would even report them for harassing me if they were to harass me because I killed a mob.

Overall, I like what ArenaNet is trying to do with the dailies. Getting them done naturally while leveling out in the world, without having to be in a certain area, pick them up as a quest, etc., is nice.

That being said, I have to say that I liked playing the game a little bit better before I realized there was a daily. And now that it is highlighted even more in a specific way, I like it even less.

Try as I might to resist it, the daily DOES condition me to play in an unnatural way that means I’m not focusing on just playing. The biggest example I can give is the “different types of enemies” goal that was in the daily consistently for a long time. I now have this urge to kill every different type of enemy I see with this underlying feeling that I “have” to, even if my daily is done or it’s not even on the list for the day. And it’s not a “go get ’em” feeling, it is a “oh I’d better go do this” feeling. It’s altered the way I see Tyria in that I am analyzing as I run through it the different enemy types I see, instead of just drinking in the scenery.

So I see the point/issue with the fact that folks are altering what they normally do in the world to meet the daily, in ways that are somewhat immersion-breaking, and goals in the daily that don’t support teamwork definitely don’t seem to be the greatest idea.

However, the new daily that actually annoys me the most is the crafting one. I don’t craft on all my characters, and I don’t craft on a regular basis.. It doesn’t really seem in keeping what I felt was the spirit of the original daily idea in GW2, which is that if you were out in the world playing, the daily was usually achievable just by playing. It’s not fun to be playing an alt and have to switch to a main to do the crafting, and then of course the main gets the xp for completing the daily.

I haven’t found the dodge or rez dailies to alter anything I’ve been doing, though. I get those done pretty quickly when I play for just a little while. I like that ArenaNet is trying to switch things up with more variety, and it’s too bad that some folks have to be a pain and ruin it for others.

If someone actually has to make an effort to get daily dodger, they are doing something horribly wrong.

Because of how easy it is for everyone to tag mobs in GW2, I don’t think anything of the daily achievements. They are all incredibly easy to accomplish. The only thing that I do slightly differently is that I now wait for other players to start resing somebody so that we all get credit for it, but it’s not really a big deal IMO.

the only ‘unnatural’ dailies are crafter and events for me. I don’t craft every day, so it just forces me to go to LA, refine 10 scraps/ores. not much of a problem though as it’s very fast.
events always were and still are my main problem. sometimes there are no events running. I can clear a zone on a lowlvl alt and see 2-3 events, some of which are group events I can’t do myself. so after about 1/2 hour or so leveling I have everything except events (heals takes a bit longer too, in a pinch I travel to a good dead-npc spot) and start running around searching for them to get my dailies done.

events just don’t start on empty servers. the only thing that usually works is wvw, if you’re lucky you can turn a camp and kill two dolyaks, for a quick 3 events. veteran scouts work quite well too. but the fact remains, that this part of the daily forces me to not play the game as I want but chase after events to get my dailies. everything else works well while leveling without having to deviate from normal play too much (I’ll only ress a few more npcs or gather even more copper then I’ll ever need).

tl;dr: events are sparse on empty servers, can’t complete this daily-part without going out of my way. rest is fine.

There are other easy ways to get the dodge daily. Sometimes I like to stand in boiling oil in wvw and then roll out of it Or use my thief and use the 5 skill underwater on my spear. As for the daily healer, there are alot of easy places to get this. Lots of dead ones in dredgehaunt cliffs, or in the.. southwest corner(?) of iron marches among several flame legion. The dodge daily is my favourite, it’s just fun to pick a mob you never normally bother dodging with and see if you can get your dodge timed right for their attacks. If anything it’s good practice!

The problems listed in this thread has nothing to do with the dailies or Arenanet. The problem is the community. Give the slightest leeway for a selfish or aggressive/superior attitude and plenty of people will take up on it (Take for example LFG dungeon problems with people demanding certain professions/gear/levels).

If you start removing all possibility for someone making a choice between being friendly or unfriendly from the game you might as well make a linear single player game with zero choice options, it’s the nature of online communities. Only time it becomes a real issue is if it becomes generally accepted to act badly (Like with the above mentioned LFG problem).

That said, it also means that doing good and helping others within the community should feel more rewarding to you knowing not so many people would do that. Who cares if you get yelled at for it? Be safe in the knowledge that you tried to make a nice gesture sometimes that has to be enough.

I think to some degree it was designed to encourage rezzing downed players in a zerg situation where a lot of people figure “eh, someone else will get him”

For me though, I know the value of keeping people alive, so I’m usually really quick to rez people. But once I’ve done my healer daily and I see someone go down, I hesitate. I think, I can get there and rez em quick, but if I do that am I depriving someone of a chance to work on their healer daily? In the end I figure the guy who went down doesn’t care who rezzes them, they just don’t want to die :P

hehe, exploding chickens, now that’s food poisoning.
boggles my mind watching some people stand there event after event (I could see someone new to the area not knowing, but I’ve watched people go down nearly every time for hours), and that’s not even a matter of “dodging” per se, given the time lapse before they go boom.

Edit: I should add, you get rez credit for NPCs, however, if you rez the NPC and they die again before regaining most or all of their life you do not receive credit again. I’m not 100% but that might even apply if you didn’t rez them the first time, as just today I helped rez 3 villagers and didn’t get credit for any of them, someone had trained wolves to them, so they had likely died more than once already.

I haven’t had any issue with it so far and no one has been rude to me. I guess I’m lucky? It was kind of annoying when I was cheezing the aquatic daily by killing salmon and someone else came to do the same thing but that’s it.
I always get dodge naturally when playing because I dodge a lot anyway.
There are generally enough dead NPC’s around for daily healer so I don’t let people die just so I can rez them though I guess some would. I haven’t really notice anyone doing it but maybe I’m just not being observant.

I can understand people being annoyed if say they have a very limited amount of time to complete the daily in, but it’s no need to be rude about it either. I’ve asked politely, once, for someone to stop helping an NPC because I needed to get it done and go do something else. If people help kill a mob i’m dodging on, well, whatever – like everyone’s said, there’s plenty of fish in the sea. If people need rezzed, then by gosh i’ll rez them. I’ve still seen a lot of people just ignoring downed people, so I try my best to get to anyone I can who goes down.

There does need to be a stop to this ’you’re playing it wrong’ judgement. Some people don’t like playing the same way as you, and that’s okay. Some people have very limited time to play and stuff they want to buy with laurels, and that’s okay too. Some people may, oh gosh, not be as good with timing their dodges as you are.

Bottom line is, just don’t be a dick. Unless they’re a dick first. Then the gloves come off.

i was doing daylys last night and had someone kill my 20+ grub train i was useing to dodge, sure i was abit annoyed but mobs respawn in what 1 minute? gives time to stop still regain endurance and go again

another thing like this is spvp. i like to play games wtih few people in since im mainly pve. so i join severs that have 1-4 people on. the ammount of times i hear “were just dueling here” or “get the kitten out were trying to dual”… just makes me get all the other points then kill the other team member… there is no dueling in the game so why get annoyed when you cant do it?

if your in a open play enviroment like dodging or “dualing” dont get annoyed with players doing there thing in the open play enviroment as i will just report you and continue doing so

It’s not your job nor your problem to cater to them and their dailies. If they haven’t figured out some tricks by now to get them done, then that’s on them, not you. This is not “Player X’s Game And You Must Abide By X’s Rules” this is an mmo. Just ignore those no talent kittenclowns and go about your business. Eventually they will either learn better ways to do their dailies or shut their kitten mouths.
