I love how this is a universal gesture for a 1v1 in WvW. I’ve had tons of fun 1v1ing people from Dragonbrand and Maguuma (I’m from Kaineng). I really wish Anet would one day implement a 1v1 duel system in WvW. But for now, this will do! Anyone who respects this is cool in my books. Keep it up guys! Let’s keep the 1v1 spirit up in WvW.
Also, how do you add enemies to your party in WvW? People I’ve 1v1’d in WvW have managed to add me without knowing my in game name or anything. How do people do this?
it’s good you’ve been meeting a better quality of players, here on SoS, I haven’t had the same luxury to encounter enemies as respectful. You can add people to party by clicking on them and pressing P, you’ll see “xxx invader” and that will invite that person to party. I have no idea if that is an exploit, I only learnt of it when some enemy players added me to send insults at me or to check on our location
FYI, dueling is on their pvp to do list, though it’s somewhat below their current spvp priorities that they will be implementing in february and/or march. I don’t know if dueling will be possible only in the mists, or also in pve/wvw. This is coming from a state of the game video that one of the devs did with numerous other well known, presumably skilled spvp teams.
I play an Asuran Thief on Desolation (I wear all white t3 & a Dredge helm, give me a wave) and amost always give a /bow to defeated opponents in WvW, especially if it was a great fight, not seen any other players do it so nice to see there are others staying classy
/bow-ing is for the men, /dance-ing is for the Call of Duty players that somehow ended up on GW2 I reckon.
Need to try this party trick tonight…I click on the wvw invader and press P and that’s it, they get an invite? Awesome
Ps. Due to recently being kicked from CoF parties due to having the audacity not to have chosen a Warrior (haha), every time I tie a Warr up in knots on WvW with Sword/Dagger I do sometimes wish there was a /hump /teabag emote but no…I will stay classy haha.
If you lose to my Guardian 1v1 and you fought well, I will /bow. I didn’t realize they could even see emotes, until I had a warrior from Fergason’s Crossing do it to me, upon a rather close fight. It’s a good gesture and one I’m happy to do for players who fought well.
I’ve had people from both Maguuma and Dragonbrand let me rally up so they can have a fair 1v1 fight with me (usually when neither of us are rolling with our zergs). It’s really amazing how nice some people can be in this game compared to other games I’ve played. And of-course, I do the same to people I down when I’m roaming. It just makes killing them that much more satisfying when you know it was a fair fight and you won. At the same time, I honestly don’t have a problem losing to those kinds of players as well because they’re usually respectful after beating me, and sometimes would even let me retrait and try out a new build which would most of the time beat them (and then they’ll change their traits and stuff). The best part about it is that it has made me improve significantly since I first started WvWing. It made me realize that it doesn’t take as much skill rolling with zergs than when you’re off to fend for yourself. I can only wish for a duel system in WvW… Oh well. This is good enough!
Yessss! I love that this is possible. I had a half an hour long duel with another under level guardian, I was a lvl 32 asura, and he was a norn guardian, at least 30+ because he kept using his elite skills. Neither of us could take the other down, due to the guardians innate insane survivability and bad DPS at low levels.
Eventually I stepped away, bowed, and he did likewise. We then went our separate ways. Epic and priceless.
I wouldn’t mind structured duels making an appearance in GW2 though.
(I’m on Maguuma, i forgot what server the guardian was on, but the match was last week I believe.)

People from Maguuma are so chill and nice! I was with amother Kaineng people and 3 Maguuma people by the windmill at the south supply camp in the borderlands and we had a blast 1v1ing each other that lasted a good hour. It sucks how Kaineng is probably gonna move up to the highest tier soon where it’s just gonna’ be zergs everywhere. My girlfriend and I came from Sea of Sorrows to Kaineng right before it costed gems to move to different worlds hoping it wouldn’t be zerg fest here. Oh well, I had fun making friends with people from Maguuma and Dragonbrand. I just hope it’s like that in higher tiers as well.

I am honestly hoping it’s for both. Although wouldn’t dueling in sPvP cost them more since players would be using a room which takes up server space? (which is why renting room costs money in the first place) Wouldn’t enabling it in WvW make more sense since it would be in the PvE maps instead of PvP rooms? I really hope Anet sees this and considers making it available in WvW at the very, very least.

I actually find it quite condescending if a thief tries to make a respectful exit after backstabbing me from invisibility with basilisk venom and 2 hit comboing me to 0 HP.
Nothing respectable about that.

I know what you mean, but I’m guessing he meant an actual fight since he said it was a “great fight”. It’s not much of a great fight if you two-hit enemies. You’d be surprised at how most thieves (at least in my tier) don’t use cheesy builds anymore. Most of them actually play for the long run instead of the usual 2-hit-if-fail-stealth-away cheese. Anyways, you’d always have enemies who plays like that. I’ve learned to just build tanky and ready my stun break for cases like that, ahaha.

The basic emotes work, just custom ones will show up as “Xyz gestures”.
Another one a lot of people seem to use is /no in WvW jumping puzzles if they don’t want to fight, at least on my server.

That is so cool. I actually had Dragonbrand people help me through my first WvW Jumping Puzzle all the way to the finish when I was in Borlis Pass. Some people are just really nice.
I usually do the same,or give them a salute. But when it’s 2 thieves that jump me out of nowhere vs me alone ( wich doesnt happen that much ) I’ll happily dance around on their bodies after ive planted their faces in the earth !
Should have clarified – i’m a sword/dagger thief – so I see myself as on a level of respectability far above the double dagger backstabbers!
and here I was under the impression /bow was code for “dont worry I wont try to kill you if you don’t try to kill me because we’re near the end of this puppy jump puzzle”.
being from Dragonbrand, I can assure you that if your server does not attack everything that moves in the JP, we won’t touch you. very few jerks here. If you didn’t do anything, your servermates probably did.
shouldn’t /taunt be the universal “let’s duel” lingo??? (I have seen that in a JP before)
Bowing truly is amazing, I guess it makes you feel much better after being defeated by someone. I have yet to see anyone do it to me, I have had a thief “beat” me and start laughing after I decided to stay for a minute. I guess thiefs are unable to bow after a fight since they cant win a fair one, hehe

I think that’s the universal “please grind my face into the dirt” signal.
I really like it when players taunt you with a dance because they think they are safe…..then scorpion wire.
I really hate when you want to do a JP in peace but aren’t sure if they will attack you so you wait…. then scorpion wire.

I’m sure I’ve actualy been able to hear “WTF!” when pulled off towers with “Death from above” active.
Simple gestures can be cool in WvW, beyond antagonising. When I feel I should make the other guy know I disapprove or enjoyed killing them, I’ll jump on their face for a bit given the space and time. But I don’t really mean anything by it, or get the chance to do it too offten.
If there were more Emotes I’m sure I’d be less inclined to forget about them, I’m yet to /bow to a dead thife that thought I might be a Glass cannon.

I had that happen, but in reverse.
Killed a guardian from the AD guild in Devona’s Rest, and then a bunch of his buddies dropped out of stealth behind me (abusing culling) and killed me. He got back up and started /laugh’ing at me.
I was like “Dude, what are you laughing about? You got beat as a guardian by a RANGER. You may be the worst guardian on your entire server!”
So he may have got the last /laugh, but I got the last genuine laugh. :P
I like killing sinners I invade during their /bow.
Dueling honestly has to be the most requested feature by fans. Why it hasn’t been implemented yet is beyond me.
