This is not a complaint post, I’m just genuinely curious why Anet has suddenly started making hidden achievements a regular thing?

They’ve done hidden achievements before, but starting with the current events achievements and continuing on into Bloodstone Fen and Out of the Shadows, they’ve done alot of them. The “Don’t Cross the Streams” achievement makes perfect sense as a hidden achievement, but the other ones in the map and story don’t. I personally find it very confusing. The hidden achievements in the story are also necessary for the Journal UI to recognize that you’ve finished all the achievements for the episode, so again, why hide them?

Again, this is all so trivial that it’s irrelevant, I just find it curious.

If you are referring to the pages from the 3 Journals, they weren’t very hidden, I feel. They were scattered all over, and hard to miss seeing at least one.

I’m not familiar with the hidden Story Achievements. Nineteen were listed on the appropriate Living Story page, of which you needed 18 to complete.

What were the hidden one(s), if you would be so kind?

I think of it as an Easter Egg. And places like Dulfy will usually spell them out pretty quickly anyways for people that don’t want to hunt them down. The ones in this latest update offered barely any AP and didn’t count towards the meta so it wouldn’t be a big loss if people missed them.

Oh, ok. I see them. Cool.

I rather like the ‘Hidden Achievements’; it’s more exciting when one finishes it unexpectedly.

And for those that prefer no surprises, the Wiki, and, of course, Dulfy always has everything to be found listed.

Oooh, so that’s why the Journal stays greyed out. I thought it was another bug as usual.

3 hidden achievements is excessive. The only one that makes sense to be hidden is the Don’t Cross the Streams one.

I don’t like hidden achievements either. Last thing I want to do is replay the whole story just to get to the end fights. Why can’t we just replay each fight from the story once we completed it!?

Why? Because they’re fun little easter eggs that reward players for playing the game in unusual ways.

If you’re a checklist kind of player, I can see why it might frustrate. But if you’re an explorer or enjoy playing content in an unconventional manner, this is exactly the kind of thing you would want.

Ditto. Hidden chieves are fun.

As a completionist at heart, I’m not keen on hidden achievements. I’m one of those “checklist” people.

“Don’t cross the streams” was fine as a hidden achievement because you’re likely to stumble across it, but there will be others that you may never find, even with years of playing. But as someone pointed out, there’s the wiki and dulfy and maybe even gw2efficiency to list out all achievements, so I have a checklist to satisfy my completionist tendencies.

My only real complaint about hidden achievements is that if they’re hidden in the game, I can’t put them on my watchlist where I like to keep goals I’m aiming for. But that’s a minor thing and the fact that the watchlist only displays four or five items is a far bigger irritation.
