GW2 is the only game I have a consistent ping between 85-90 but can go as high as 120 late at night. Why is this? Speedtest, Pingtest and modem signal-to-noise ratios are excellent. Other games real low ping. Did a tracert and it says NCSoft which says Texas on a Whois, which is only a couple states over. It’s gotta be the connect between here and the Anet servers but why only this game?

Speedtest rates my d/l @ 60 mbit/sec, u/l @ 7 mbit/sec
Pingtest rates my ping at 14ms with 0-1ms jitter for a server over 100 miles away. 250 packets received and 0 lost
Modem says my dBmV is -0.57

Well first ping to a server 100 miles away doesn’t mean anything unless you are within 100 miles of NCSOFT’s servers which is in Austin for NA in the US and Frankfurt in Germany for EU.

Do a /ip when you are logged in, that’s the IP address of the map server you are on. Ping that IP or use pingplotter (there’s a free version).

We are heroes. This is what we do!

From the WvW forum:

BTW, the ping number we show in the client on the options screen is probably different than you see in other games. We should name it something different. Traditionally the ping time is the time it takes for a packet to get to a server and back. In our case, it is the time to get to the server, get processed by the game map you are in, and then sent back. So our misnamed “ping” is much more variable than most ping numbers because it includes game processing time.

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

I’ve noticed something hilarious yet depressing. Sometimes when I go on my warrior my ping spikes up dramatically and stays high until I swap characters again. This only happens with my warrior. I’ve tested it tons of times.

Not sure why this is but it’s been going on since around the september feature patch 2014.
