Q:

[Question]
Are we Ever going to have server for SEA, Australia and other high ping areas?
I am located in India and geographically its the midway from both US and EU servers. and i get a ping of no less than 350, which is obviously not playable.

[Suggestion]
there is a way to server such areas, by using China’s gw2 as proxy server. i realize that its not in the hands of developer and definitely not in the hands of people who are gonna read it first. bt do a courtesy and pass it own to your boss.

Try using a VPN.

Playing China GW2 from Australia gives me more ping than the NA servers. Sad situation.

I recently just read news about the mmo "W*W " receive a new server located in australia for their oceanic playerbase, it’s their first server there. If it took them ~10 years to do that, how long do you think it’ll happen for us?

You mean Diablo 3? WoW had Australian servers since the start

Nope. Have you tried the EU servers? You should compare the latency from both regions.

As an Australian player, I’ve been on both N/A and Eu servers on GW1. The lag was horrific when playing on Eu servers, sometimes ~600ms to 1sec ping, but no less than 450ms. Basically unplayable.

Now I’m on an N/A server and the ping is still high compared to continental USA; we’re getting 350-400ms average where most continental US players will get 10ms-150ms.

I’ve spoken to Gaile Gray about this on a few occasions so she can relay the concerns of most Aussie/NZ players (and SEA as well) to the team to see what can be done about it. Nothing has come of it so I’m guessing it’s not financially viable for them to implement one in this area of the world.

It’s a pity because quite a few N/A servers are made up of numerous Oceanic/SEA players and just about all of them have the same lag issues, and definitely feel it harder than what the normal USA player would.

“Prior to the opening of the Australian data centre, all servers for the North American version of World of Warcraft (which includes Australia and New Zealand) were run out of the USA, including designated Oceanic servers aimed….”

On the main topic, i don’t think vpn will help in GW2 case, the lattency heavily depends on isp and the distance, sure, VPN (probably) helps on foreign networks like Japan’s or China’s, by cutting short unnecessary routing on that country’s network, but international server like GW2’s most likely have the most optimized routing possible. So sadly, us from asian region will have slight higher lattency (but of course it also depend on your isp quality) compared to EU/NA player.

There are some free VPN’s in the extensions on Google Chrome. “Hola” is a popular one. There is also CyberGhost.

I don’t believe it is possible to ‘guest’ to an NA server from an EU server. Otherwise, there would not be threads from people disappointed they can not play with their friends in a different region.
