Sometimes a player or an NPC will shout something out that I can’t understand and just make up whatever it sounds like. For example, when an ele switches her attunement she sometimes shouts:

“Feel Grenth’s Icy Embrace!”. Which I hear as:

“Feel the Brits Icy Embrace!”

Or a Sylvari will pronounce:

“This Rose has Thorns. Here they Are!” Which I always heard as (idiotically and ungrammatically)

“This Rows has Thorns. Here They Are!”

Any such examples from your own experience?

Not quite on topic, but I fought this NPC in a duel in a low level zone.

I killed him and he dealt ZERO damage to me and he said “Let’s call that a draw”.

I said in chat “Yea, right” and a guy next to me said “lol”.

Was a pretty funny moment:P

Not really dialogue, but I love it when my character exclaims “Ah, refreshing!” after taking a huge hammer to the face (which triggers regeneration). I bet the mobs fecaliate their pants at that moment. “I… dude… I just smacked her with this huge hammer, sqare in the face, and she said it was refreshing! Bother this nonsense, I quit!”

“Fecaliate” – I thought this was a new word till I checked Google and it wasn’t. Still…it should be one!

I treasure the time I was escorting a Sylvari Warden NPC, I don’t recall if it was in a PS or in the world. He was acting all noble and valiant. Then he shouted “You asked for this!” and charged at right angles off the path to attack a non-aggro boar.

I guess he hates swine.

I’ve seen people type out:

“P for pain!”
“Pay for pain!”
and
“Pain for pain!”

I think it’s female human retaliation? Not entirely sure.

It’s actually pain for pain. It’s female human retaliation, yes.

I like it when may Male Human Warrior says “OH! That had to hurt!” after I took a hard critical slap in the face.
Yeah, I’m sure it had to hurt.

So my Sylvari Mesmer has Signet of Inspiration on and she’s getting these random boons and spouting random phrases every 10 secs.

Now, we had to kill ambient creatures that day and so I went to my favorite chicken farm near the Vigil keep in Gendarran Fields to settle it.

So I kill an ambient chicken with one swing of my staff and at that moment, the Signet triggered giving me Might, and she goes “I am mighty!”. Such a proud moment for killing a chicken. Gives me a chuckle when I think about it.

Sylvari necro after dropping 2 wells and killing off multiple mobs in Deathshroud (via Life Transfer):

“How refreshing. I feel energized.”

Makes me giggle. Everytime.

PS: My entire guild just learned a new word today! Lol.

BG: 52 alts, 29 lvl 80’s. They all look good, so I am done with the game: Oct 2014

It took me about two months to figure out that when the human female receives crippled condition she says “My leg!”

I thought she was saying “My league!” and I couldn’t figure out what the heck she was talking about. :P

Before I actually got a good chance to listen to female sylvari, I used to think they said, “Less violence, more violence.” I assumed they were all just crazy.

I remember killing a hylek somewhere in Caledon. I took it out in one momentous hit before it could even respond; it said, “I thought I was winning…”

Only tangently related, but since other people have given similar stories, I’ll share mine: once I was minding my own business and dodging risen in… probably Bloodtide coast, and saw this Risen Brute suddenly swat a rabbit, after which it proclaimed: “You were weak!” I stared a while in disbelief and then laughed until an event spawned on me and then I nearly cried because the risen were saying ugly things about Sieran. >:C But that risen still cracks me up every time I think about it. ^^

I don’t remember having heard anything wrong, as such, misunderstanding, no. But NPCs have perfect comic timing a lot of the time, and hilarity ensues. :)

The only things I still don’t hear properly are when my sylvari necro commands her minions, there are some I only ever catch half of, and then try guessing the other part. But I found the wiki article now, so I’m happy. ^^

I heard it that way too, and I thought it was some kind of philosophical statement or zen koan.

In the German client, this is “diese Rose hat Dornen, hier sind sie!”, and when a female Sylvari says it, I always hear “diese Hose hat Dornen, hier sind sie!” (“these trousers have thorns, here they are!” …

There’s the SoSvanir dialogue in HotW p1 that I misheard as “Now I hump their children!” >_>
