Historical Achievements (Dev Question)
Because then the AP leaderboard would be pointless and everyone had about the same AP in the top 1000.
Also a reward for veterans because they will reach the AP reward chests earlier.
Anet are bonkos because they actually REMOVE content from the game. I hate it, always hated it, will always hate it. I didn’t play for a few months here and there so now all I get is empty southsun, chunks of living story season 1 that I can’t do, etc.
I’m not even talking about events they removed in starter maps when they did levelling revamp. That dev shop looks to me more disorganized by the minute.
Thing is, once you make certain things unachievable in the game anymore, person who likes achieving all there’s to achieve/catching up to people who’s done it => will quit. Because there’s no possible way for them to achieve stuff anymore. My main motivation for playing this game since LS season 1 has been constant fear they’ll remove stuff from it so I have to play it now. I think this is what they were going for with LS season 1, good job anet.
Not really looking for any players opinion here, just an answer from the devs, since this couldnt be explained as a ticket.
I see what you’re saying, but you’re going to get player opinions anyway. That’s what happens when you post in the forum.
Lets say that two people completed all achievements to 100% (including capping dailies), in other words. they did equal work to reach their goals.
But one ends up having 26.540 Points, while the other one ends up with 24,850. Only because one of them started alittle bit earlier.
I mean, should really achievement points be exclusive? Is it gonna prove the hard work and effort you put down to it, or the time you’ve spent?
If one of the players started earlier, and they both did every achievement available to them, that’s not equal work.
I can’t speak for everyone, but I’d be pretty annoyed if my historical achievements were made not to count for achievement points. Regardless of whether they’re available to everyone, I earned them, and it wouldn’t be good to literally devalue my achievements.
Something that needs to be understood about Living World Season 1 is that it was designed to be missed. The intent was to make a world that changed over time, and lost things, and built up a history of things past for players to reminisce about. Limited-time achievements, and their points, make sense in that context.
That plan has some benefits, but also some major problems, which is why S2 changed gears. The uneven number of maximum achievement points is a consequence of that.

Do you also complain in real life because you cannot take part in history events such as WW2 anymore?
Yeah, and please devalue all the daily AP at the end of each day, because there’s no possible way to get yesterdays daily AP if you missed them.
Otherwise it’ll be really unfair because a new player can’t catch up with veterans.
My suggestion:
Each new account should start with 15000 AP, and then lose 10 AP on every day they do not complete their dailies. This way a new player who always completed their dailies will have the same amount of AP as a veteran who always completed theirs.
Dailies will eventually get capped at one point (which i already mentioned), which is possible for everyone to do.
Please stop with the exaggerations, still waiting for an answer from the devs.
Because then the AP leaderboard would be pointless and everyone had about the same AP in the top 1000.
If achievements in this game is counted as a ladder feature, then they might aswell just change the name of it.

I doub you will get an answer
cause the actual system is clear enough.
With your point of view also all new player have to get the skins/items from historical achievements otherwise its unfair for them

Only reason i posted here was because the devs recommended me to.
Items and AP are two different things.
That’s why they’re called historical achievements. They denote things characters did in a bygone era.
AP is a system specifically designed to reward players for playing more, longer, and doing a wide array of content. It’s not really supposed to be “fair” it’s supposed to be a nice reward for sticking around and doing different stuff. It’s basically a veteran system.

I am a bit confused here.
The ANet Developers advised you do a Dev call-out post (which is against the Forum Code of Conduct), because they couldn’t explain their point to you in your support ticket?
Interesting
The whole point of AP is to more or less denote both how long a player has been playing and how thoroughly they’ve completed all game content, temporary or otherwise. The only rewards offered for AP are things like gold bonuses, titles, Zenith weapon skins and Hellfire and Radiant armor skins. So, people hunt AP in their quest to get these bonuses.
The key feature to keep in mind is that these rewards are constant and simply set at AP intervals. If you started playing GW2 for the first time today, and stuck with it, you would earn the Radiant Helmet (for example) in about the same amount of time it took for that guy who’s been playing since launch to get it. The rewards aren’t gone, and their method of acquisition hasn’t even changed: do the achievements and play for a long time => get the AP => get the rewards.
The suggestion that past achievements should be removed to “balance” AP with new players is, imo, short-sighted. Remove the LSS1 and Halloween achievements, for example: now the veteran players are still head-and-shoulders above the newbies via dailies, collections, crafting, slayers, weapon mastery, etc. The only difference is the amount they’re ahead by.
And even with this method, you would never catch up to them so long as they kept playing, unless you removed dailies entirely and their earned AP as well. So even if you, as a new player, complete every single achievement available to you, you will still be behind the people who have been playing for three years. And that’s the way it should be.
The only way to go against this is to develop an AP cap that is set at the maximum for all permanent achievements. The reason Anet will not (and should not) do this is because this would remove much of the incentive to play daily. AP rewards are already out there, and if I’m suddenly not allowed to pursue these at my own rate precisely because I started playing before all the new players… Well, that’s unfair to us veterans.
Actually, because the number of permanent achievements are constantly growing, it theoretically would take less time for a new player (who actively pursues achievements) to achieve the same rewards as the veterans. So a reward that took Mr. Veteran three years to get might be earned by Mr. Newbie in two years.
I have been playing longer. So long as I keep playing, my AP should be higher than yours. All that gets me is AP-related skins and titles. And, in good time, the exact same things will be available to you as well.
Happy AP hunting.
Appreciate the answers,
I guess i took the achievements the wrong way in this game, and was simply used to world of warcraft or any other MMORPG, which uses a system of “0/4500” total progress.
From now on i’ll simply prio the completion of the achievements rather than the amount of achievement points, which is nonsense and more of a ladder rank in my opinion.
My goal will still be to achieve every achievement up to100%, after that i cant really do much else, and i suggest the same thought to the other achievement hunters out there.
PS, im not a new free2play player, i do have a celebration hat ;o
