Hopefully someone else can release a timeline but I have been playing from day 1, here’s my impression:-

Day 1 : GW2 is released and its AWESOME, everyone agrees, players, reviews, everyone…wow we may have a hit here….

Day 2 – 59’ish : Anet temp/perma ban 1,000’s of players for various things but largely exploits that could ruin there economy.

Day 60’ish : First (or 2nd I forget live event) the Karka invasion anyway. The plan all GW2 players log in at the same time (!!!) to fight the evil Karka. Guess what happens? Yep everyone disconnects/massive lag, utter disaster really…lots of goodwill lost.

Day 61+ish : New tier of equipment released, (Ascended) players outraged, more goodwill lost.

Day 120’ish-present day : New content delivered via Living Story updates (loads of them really), some good, some utter garbage. Players love or hate them. Loads of temporary content means GW2 changes very little compared to other MMO’s and nothing new to do for returning players. Really we the players are just henchmen for Anet’s fav. characters.

The two most successful subscription-based MMOs that come to mind (EQ, WoW) put out less content than ArenaNet does, without requiring monthly dividends. I fear for your long-term memory; you can’t forget very nearly a release every two weeks for the past year and a half, can you?

Offered for you… EQ’s last two expansions required $40 up-front in order to release a quarter of their expansion every three months. You could reasonably expect the same shelf-life of each of their releases as you can from GW2’s, and you’re not paying (($15*12+$40)/4) $51 for every content update. Please have some vision.

EverQuest was an interesting case. They added a small bit of content early on before their first expansion but it was buggy and disconnected. They removed an equal amount of content in the form of items determined to be “considerably broken”. (Box of Nil Space, Rubicite, some rogue armor…) They would continue the tradition of adding things between expansions, but all of it being either pointless or pretty broken anyway.

Until one expansion which was almost no “content” and simply a lot of dungeons which were repeatable and grindy. Which was when I took my money elsewhere. Strangely, I did go back and check them out, and while they were fun . . . the repetition required was . . . just . . . no. Squandered interesting ideas for the sake of grind and gear inflation.

God I miss Meridian 59. At least its three actual content expansions had merit in them.

Day… something… April: ANet release SAB, it’s great.

Day… something… September: ANet release SAB 2, it’s less great, but still good, they charge real world money for an item that lets you play SAB “infinitely”.

Day… something… following April: People expect SAB, ANet instead breaks the trait system.

Day… something… Summer: People riot over SAB. ANet agrees that communication is a good thing.

Day… something… Following September: Few people expect SAB. ANet breaks the levelling maps and personal story.

Day… something… October: ANet reveals its big plan for repeated holiday content. They’re going to literally repeat it.

Day… something… December: ANet, in a break from tradition, follow up on their earlier plan.

Obviously that’s overly negative. They’ve given us EotM, the wardrobe, and lots of nice stuff (unfortunately they don’t really get a point for fractals because they heroically undid their own good work there). But yeah, they’ve really put some effort into alienating people over the years (I haven’t even mentioned precursors…)

and those people that complained about it was right….

the content they added under this 2 years is VERY minimal

HELL they removed HALF of the living story aka the whole season 1 this whole temporal contet was a FAIL from the begining. now half the comunity dont even know who the kitten are these people that they helping and why and how.

they SAW that this whole thing is a FAIL thats why they made Season 2 repeatable but allot of things in Season 2 does not make ANY SENSE because it needs season 1 to fully understand what the kitten is going on and why and where. Why i need to even care about these people im helping etcetc.

I partially agree with Zoltreez there, except for the silly tone. The first thing Anet needs to do is implement season 1 in a repeatable fashion. Well after this next big thing they have coming anyway.

Don’t tell lies plz. For me and many, many, many others this was by far the most epic and interesting event I have ever seen in any MMO I’ve ever played. This really felt like “whoa, this is live…we’re experiencing an epic event all together that won’t return!”

Blame not Anet, blame those ppl that are playing this game on a potato. I really miss this kind of event…

– 2 new playable races

– new PvP modes
– flying mounts
– an increased level cap
– 45+ new skills
– 11 new zones
– 8 new dungeons
– 1 new crafting profession
– a new campaign

In the 29 months since release, Guild Wars 2 has received:
– 3 new PvE maps (whose combined area is about that of a standard map)
– 1 new WvW map
– 4 new PvP maps (one of which is a new PvP mode)
– 9 new skills
– 1.33 new dungeons (that’s counting Fractals)
– two new mini-campaigns (one of which is no longer available)

Comparing the two, it looks to me like World of Warcraft received significantly more content is less time. So, what was it you were you saying about long-term memory?

I count 4 new PvP maps. Courtyard, Temple of the Silent Storm, Spirit Watch and Skyhammer.
One which includes a new PvP mode.

If you are going to compare, at least compare truthfully.
You also seems to include stuff for the WoW count while ignoring stuff for the GW2 count.

Multiple new jumping puzzles.

Multiple new open world dungeons.
Several new (and in some cases updated) world bosses.

I can’t take your first question seriously by this point.
It seems that you opened the thread to turn it into an offensive bash-fest.

Enjoy your time because the most successful MMORPG in history has had less updates 2 years after release compared to GW2.

I guess Guild Missions don’t count. Also 1.33 new dungeons is a bit rich, considering that there were five new fractals added, but also each path IS a dungeon. Considering most dungeons in most games can be run in the same amount of time as something like the new path added, counting it as less than a dungeon is just disingenuous.

There’s more stuff added like jumping puzzles and stuff, mini games, but you know that’s not content because you said so.
