OP: don’t worry about it. The skins are meh and some actually have WORSE stats than the normal pet skin.

If you seriously CANNOT stand it, then go pick up GW1 and do the required things to get them. Up to you. But I don’t think ANet should just hand them out to people who never completed the req’d HoM levels.

HoM rewards are a nod to GW1 players. They are skins and minis.

We knew that there were going to be rewards in 2007. We knew what the rewards were in 2010.

If you wanted them, you could have worked for them. If you didn’t care, there’s no advantage to having them.

If you need a checkbox to hide HoM rewards, that’s fine by me.
If you want to purchase the HoM skins with gems/in-game gold, that’s a great way to kitten people off.

“We” didn’t know. Guild Wars 1 players and people following the production of GW2 for (based on your post) years knew. New players to GW2 probably expected to be able to earn their in-game rewards by playing THIS game. I know I did. Ground-breaking I know.

As someone above mentioned, you can still get collectors edition only items in the gem store. Should people that got the original digital delux/CE versions at launch be upset by this? If they are I haven’t seen any posts about it.

Yeah, they should add them to the laurel vendor for :-
*100 laurels
*500,000 karma
*50 gold
*650 badges
*36 guild commendations
*750 tokens from each dungeon
*3 bloodshards
*1000 fractal relics
*50 pristine fractal relics
*100 of each type of lodestone
And *50 of each t6 mat.

This should keep things in-line with other aspects of this game, and would maybe be quicker than playing for years in another game… But probably not.

Honestly, if people are still interested in this game, Anet should just give them what they want..

All hail Emperor Anet, and their new clothes!

I’m 30/50, which cost me way more effort than the rewards are worth. The only thing I use with any kind of regularity is the title (closer to the stars), and that only because it reminds me of my first ascension (the real equivalent of hitting 80, when the game opened up to you). I main a ranger, and I wish I liked moas, because taming the black moa was a fun part of starting over again in GW1. It had a quest with hysterical dialog. These days, I mostly use a reef drake, as I like drakes for their stats, and getting a reef drake is a memorable experience.

If you MUST have nostalgic things, go make memories to be nostalgic about. It’ll cost you less to buy the games than I paid for them. You’ve got more flexibility with your heroes than I had, which will make it easier to solo.

If you really want them you can still go and earn them the same way everyone else did. And IMO you’d be giving yourself an excuse to experience a great game in the process.

I have to admit I have mixed feelings on the HoM items. I don’t feel like I really earned them because I love GW1 and I got almost all my HoM points through doing things I would have done anyway. I bought Vabbian armor and a few more Destroyer weapons than I would have otherwise, but that’s about it.

At the same time I would feel dissapointed if they started giving the items out to people who never played GW1. As other people have said those items were added to the game in recognition of the hours, days, years in some cases, people put into that game. So that players wouldn’t feel like they were abandoning everything they’d earned to start from scratch.

To give them out to everyone for a few laurels or whatever would make them meaningless.

And ask the folks who have the original (and non-Kilroy) Survivor how their PTSD is doing….

I’ve done Survivor both ways and I have to say I hated Kilroy and would never do it again but I really enjoyed doing it the old-school way. (See attachment.)

It all comes down to what you enjoy. For me it was an extra challenge which made re-playing quests and missions I’d already done dozens of times fun again.

And yes there were plenty of achievements to let you get GWAMM without the 4 you listed. Although you’d probably need to do the PvP ones instead and IMO they’re the real grind. I think it was years before anyone even knew what max rank was in some of those, whereas drunkard some people got relatively quickly.

Really? I was looking through all my pets after having all the zones explored to see which ones I’m missing so I could go back and find them. Then I discover that I need HoM points for the 4 that I’m missing?

I understand that they have the same abilities that other pets already have and are just skins, but still really? I was ok with the entire tab of achievs devoted to HoM points, completely understand the “god amongst mere mortals” title, and I’m ok with the fiery greatsword skin being exclusive to HoM as well. But when I see 4 “grayed out pets” in my action bar that I need to devote several hours into another game to unlock, that’s when it starts to get frustrating for me. Why can’t I unlock rewards in the game that I’m actually playing? I mean, that makes sense right? Just frustrated, I’m a completionist and I was hoping the pets I was missing were rare spawns/hidden in JPs or something interesting but it’s disappointing to find out that if I want them I’m playing the wrong game.

As a side note, it does kind of bug me to see the mist fire elite skill grayed out on all my chars too, but that I can understand because at least even if you do have to pay for it, it’s unlocked within this game.

Edit:

Two main issues that separate the pets from the other HoM rewards.

1). It is skill/action bar related. Even though they share the same skills as other pets, they have a unique spot in the combat interface. It is a profession specific mechanic, not simply a “skin.”

2) The grayed out portraits feel tacky and coercive. I have to look at them every time I change pets. If you must include them as HoM only, don’t toss it in everyone’s UI.

Hope that clears things up and puts less people on the defensive.

You realize that it takes for a casual player quite a long time to get the 30 points needed for both pets right?

You need around 7million ingame gold to get th 30 points.

For grinders thats around 500ish hours.
For investors about 100 hours.

Its still quite long and I would feel insulted in you had the skins I took forever to get.

I’ve run people in my guild to 30 points in Guild Wars 1. Some of them took less than a month, with guild help to get it.

Solo it can take a long time. With a helpful guild it can be quite fast.

I thought there might be – my memory is no longer what it once was (I think). I suspect that when I contemplated my (admittedly very meagre and never realized) chances at GWAMM, I mentally placed the PvP ones in the “No kitten chance” category because I sucked (and continue to suck) so badly at it.

I’ve heard people use it as an actual swear word. I didn’t think anyone would be offended by it though.

Deluxe and CE cost money.

30/50 cost time and effort. 50/50 even more so.

If you would LIKE to kitten people off, sure, go for it…

lol

I’m still playing GW and I still won’t allow my Legendary Survivor do anything dangerous without a lot of premeditation.

I don’t care how many times all my other toons die, but that one is still at 0 and at 0 deaths she shall forever be!

This will never happen. these bonuses were announced years before gw2 were released. if you want them its only one way to get them and that is go play gw1.
