See alot of people complain about the time and money things take. My question: Do you want an MMO you can beat in 48hrs? I don’t. I want something that is going to keep me playing for the next few years. I generally see all these complaints, because there is no instant gratification.

If anything ANet has removed a large block of “the grind” from the game. Take precursors and legendaries for example. I saw threads about how precursor mats are like 2k to build via the mastery, and the actual precursor sells for 600-700g. Ya know, you’re counting 3k mithril bars, which really is one of the easiest materials to collect? Really? Just play the game! Collect everything you can, while doing it! Is it hard to figure that out?

Before, you never knew how to farm T6 mats reliably. It was complete RNG if you’d be able to complete a stack of any of them, unless you had friends or massive amounts of gold. Now, you just do events in Orr. Hell, theres been trains doing it there since the game launched and still do! Now, we have a reliable source of T6 mats, that we can count on.

That being said, there are a few flaws here and there, which i believe we’ll over come as a gaming community, or ANet will see it, and fix it. It just takes patience. Play the game and enjoy it for what it is, or please go play something else, and stop ruining it for those of us who are extremely grateful for all the work ANet has put into this expansion.

Either way, that my two cents. I hated ANet before this, but they are fully redeemed in my eyes, and i know where i’ll be spending my free time for the next few years.

Doing it “right” is purposely devaluing core content, removing earned core Guild abilities, and placing them behind a pay wall?

ok

Ley lines. The perfect solution to deadlines and writers block. Now in an easy open Can.

Nobody cares about the cosmetics grind in the grand scheme of things. People get upset about RNG, which is fair, but nobody freaks out and quits over not getting a free legendary. It’s meant for people who like doing those things.

Elite specializations are not, though. They’re not cosmetic or slight changes. There are meant to be even more later. The amount of time it takes to unlock it per character is just too strenuous for people without a lot of game time.

Your 48 hours is different from mine. Since Friday, I’ve only had enough time to complete two of the story episodes and one hero point challenge, and have barely made a dent in masteries. At the rate I’m going, it’d take me six to eight months to unlock the elite spec for only one character. That’s way too long “waiting to have fun”.

There’s no logical reason behind why you think it’s okay to make the game inaccessible to other people. We should all be entitled to have fun. And trust me, there’s plenty of content to do for those who have the time and like to devote themselves to completing new things.

What ANet did wrong, imo.

  • Waited until the last minute to tell people they would not be playing the Elite specs right off the bat. People have waited either up to 3 years; or since HoT announcement in January to be able to play professions a new way, and nothing prepared them for the idea they’d have to wait longer.
  • Making one-and-done content like Hero Challenges into group events. That sort of content is fine for stuff people will want to repeat. This ensures a population that is available to be the groups doing those events. We’re already seeing reports about empty maps and no one around to assist with these group Challenges and it’s just the first weekend. What is this content going to be like in 6 months when the new guy or late adopter comes along, or when someone who has less time to play is working on his 6th alt? This was — yet again — too much, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could get herds of players to do challenges together!” and not enough, “How is this idea going to play out over time?”
  • Fostered a climate in WvW where players are ignoring the new maps in order to do cyclical PvD to eke out the necessary currencies to unlock specs.

I agree with all of those things, but I don’t think they’re as big of a deal as people make them out to be. I’ve been playing the expansion a ton over the past couple days, and I’ve been having a blast.

I agree. There are issues, but not big enough issues to make me think the entire xpac is bad, or was a flop. Quite the opposite.

I completed my elite spec this weekend. Thanks for proving the “people want instant gratification” argument once again.

Sounds like a personal problem. Not a game problem.

Youre right

They should increased the max level, and gated everything new behind that instead. Thats the only acceptable form of character progression!

The guild wars player base, unlike other games is fairly old in age. The majority are adults and even parents. Being a parent or a college student sadly takes away the privlige of playing 6+ hours a day. And that isn’t a personal issue because thats the average age group in gw2. Having 1-2 hours per a day or even two days, makes my progress in HoT nearly impossbile. I deserve to have fun just as much as people who no life and play 12 hours a day.

And where are these statics to back up your average age theory?

So you’re essentially arguing that you should be able to accomplish just as much in 1 hour as a guy who plays 12 hours….

So you want instant gratification, which seems to be the major theme with all the negative people right now

Can we say lol?
